Seriously Disappointed

Tracey B on Feb 15, 2025

I had high expectations for this 5-star hotel, but unfortunately, it fell short in several areas. Food: The quality was disappointing. Unless you ordered an omelet or taco, the food was never hot or fresh. The breakfast buffet, in particular, was always cold, which was frustrating. Rooms: The rooms did not meet 5-star standards—they felt more like a 3.5-star experience. Cleanliness was lacking, and housekeeping barely restocked towels, which was inconvenient. Amenities: For an adults-only hotel, I expected more flexibility, yet the pool hours were only from 9 AM to 6 PM, which was a huge letdown. Extra Charges: The most frustrating part was being charged $250 extra per night just to be added to a room that already slept three people. It felt like an unnecessary and excessive charge. Staff: The only highlight was the friendly and professional staff, but unfortunately, their kindness didn’t make up for the overall disappointing experience. For the price, this hotel was not worth it, and I wouldn’t stay here again.

Our vacation was amazing. The staff were very polite and friendly. There were a lot of options about food and drinks. The facilities are nice and cozy with a beautiful environment. We had a great time, we will definitely be back.

Small Resort With Huge Impact

edfry (Pickering, Canada) on Feb 13, 2025

If you are looking for a smaller resort, but still want to be entertained, this is for you. Staff are great and welcoming. Food is wonderful with enough options. Buffet is just at breakfast. A la carte restaurants for lunch and dinner, but reservations only needed at dinner. Poolside grill if you don't feel like getting out of your bathing suit. Entertainment every night. Closeby casino and golf (but we didn't check those out. First resort we've been to that we would consider going back to.

TRS Cap Cana Review

thenipps2 (Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania) on Feb 12, 2025

Resort was a beautiful place and had great people. The location was not the best as there was no beach to use. The marina was next door and the views of the ocean were great.

Lovely for a quiet holiday, but needs something more........

TRS Cap Cana Waterfront & Marina Hotel It is quite hard to review this hotel, and is quite a mixed one. We chose it as it looked nice, was overlooking the sea and a marina and not too far to travel from the airport, (but far enough away not to have to hear flights constantly coming in and out). It had mostly good reviews and was Adults only. After a long time travelling, we arrived to the reception area where an unsmiling lady checked us in and told us our Swim Up Junior Suite Swim up room was unavailable and we had been “Upgraded” to a much larger room overlooking the marina. I had been very much looking forward to having a swim-up room and with poor knees I didn’t want to be on the second floor either. We noted that other people checking in were offered refreshing welcome drinks and although this was on our inventory we did not get this offered to us. We really would have enjoyed a cool refreshing drink on arrival. The room we were given was huge, in fact two rooms, but we were there to enjoy the views and hot weather not sit in a large suite of rooms. So we did ask for our swim-up room that we had booked and were told to come back tomorrow at 9am. the following morning we turned up and were told to come back at 1pm. We did so and were told to come back at 3pm. We did and were told the room just needed to be checked, then we were suddenly told it was ready and we needed to pack up and move asap as the room we were in was needed! We had not unpacked our cases so it was done quite easily. Although it had been unsettling not being able to sort out our clothes and also having to keep going back to reception. At one time we did mention to the receptionist that we noticed other people arriving were all being given drinks, but we had not, even though it was on our inventory, and they just shrugged their shoulders and said “some do and some don’t”! We were assigned a Butler, ours was called Aronni. We communicated with him via WhatsApp. Every morning, he would text me around 10am to ask where we would like to eat our evening dinner and he would book the table for us at the time we asked. He was very helpful, although a couple of times things got a bit complicated due to not understanding the language. He certainly did his best. If we wanted anything for our room, like a bottle of wine we would message him and it was done. Note; they call Cava or sparkling wine, Champagne. It was nice though. My husband also enjoyed the red wine. Our swim up room was nice and quite long and spacious with everything we needed – large bed, coffee maker with plenty of pods, fridge that was re-stocked daily with soft drinks, a packet of crisps and small packet of peanuts and sometimes one Snickers bar, even a hammock on our balcony. Also a lovely large walk-in wardrobe, well actually a small room. It was all immaculately cleaned daily. Located was in a block of six looking out to the pools, and a raised bridge/ walkway which was used as the evening stage area. It was very nice being able to sit outside our room in the evening by our swim up pool and watch the entertainment. The block we were in all had a swim up pool area but it was a shared area and every two rooms shared the steps into the pool. The only problem was there were a couple of rooms in our block who were friends and they spent all day in their area of the swim up pool, but they were eating, drinking and smoking in the pool. By mid-day they were already very loud and noisy with music blaring too. I will mention our room was in a block 2102 to 2106. At 5am every morning we were woken up when the kitchen staff arrived. Doors were swung, loud talking and calling out to each other, trolleys banging doors and then music turned on. Our room was just along from the main, Gauchio, and that was where the Buffet Breakfast was available from 7am. My favourite meal was the buffet breakfast. Absolutely perfect with so many varieties. Special mention for freshly cut leg of Parma ham, all the delicious sweet fresh fruit, the whole honeycomb of dripping honey to help yourself to and extremely crispy “proper” bacon, also perfect omelette cooked to order. Unusually, this was the only meal that was buffet style and that was a shame for me. Being Gluten intolerant, I find it easier to look and select my food from a buffet. When we arrived at any meal we were always asked if we had any allergies and I said “Yes, sin gluten.” The staff were very good and after a couple of days they would remember me. One member of staff, Gregory, always said “ahh sin gluten” and tried to be helpful with suggesting what I could or could not have to eat from the menu. We usually ate lunch and often dinner at Helios restaurant which was down by the beach and we loved the view there. The food was chosen by scanning a QR code, which meant we could look at and choose what the menu was and where we wanted to eat. There was also an outside Grill Bar at lunch times and I saw them cooking burgers and chicken pieces and chips etc. Up by the main Gauchio restaurant there was also an Italian one open in the evening called Tentazion. Helios (by the beach) did alternate nights with a Caribbean food evening. There was also a beach bbq one evening. I personally did not find enough choice on the menu, steak (which was usually quite hard to chew even cooked medium), fish or sometimes chicken. The variety was not enough for what is advertised as a 4- or 5-star hotel. Vegetables were usually cold and hardly cooked and often not what we had ordered or expected! During the day a Coffee Bar was open from 7am just off the reception area. They made very nice iced coffee and hot coffee and cold drinks. It was nice and cool to sit indoors or take coffee out on the terrace for a great view. Although fully booked we couldn’t understand why there was always plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the sunshine. Some people put out towels and didn’t turn up until the afternoon, but as the area was so large it was not a problem. The loungers were comfy and spaced out, the sun shone and the view of the pools, sea and reefs were idyllic. There was a short promontory we could walk out but apart from that nowhere to actually go for a walk. There were many coves and beaches along the coast, but we could see they were all gated. So really there wasn’t much to do. We did ask the chap in the foyer about trips and he suggested going to a shopping Mall. So we were picked up one afternoon to go there. But it was just a big open warehouse with a few tourist stalls in various areas. Someone demonstrating making cigars, but there was someone at our hotel that did that, the local rum to purchase, and various tourist items like T-shirts, beach bags, magnets etc. also a person explaining how chocolate is made and giving away lots of samples to try. This was the most interesting part for us. We then had to sit and wait for almost an hour for the taxi to take us back to the hotel! It was certainly not a shopping mall as we know it, and wasn’t worth missing an afternoon by the pool. However, reading Trip Advisor since we returned home, we saw someone wrote about being able to go to another Beach which the hotel runs a shuttle bus to, with a Butler and provisions. We had no idea at all of this arrangement and it is the first time we have heard of it. This is exactly why more communication needs to be prioritised. It would have been so nice to go somewhere different for a few hours of our week long stay there. Several staff should be mentioned. Charly, who always remembered our names; with all the people he chatted to, I don’t know how as we didn’t even take part in many of the “entertainment” activities. He was lovely, friendly, and amusing. At the restaurants we were well looked after by Brauly, Kelvin, Alexander, Manuel & Gregory. We had mentioned that it was my husband's birthday while we were staying here. It was even picked up on our arrival. Although I did mention it again, the day before, he did not get wished a happy birthday or sung to or acknowledged, although lots of other people on holiday did get acknowledged when it was their birthdays.
