Arrived on Nov 3rd for a week , first time in barbados . Hotel is well kept , theres a lot of steps but on the 2nd day we discovered the escalators lol . Staff were amazing friendly and welcoming . It rained most days a quick shower mostly but that hardly matters when its 30c and clears up quickly . The hotel grounds and rooms are well kept , nice gym and dance studio . Rachel's a lovely place for a meal but make sure to book asap . The food was good didnt get bored as you do in most AI Hotels . Entertainment from one particular couple was wonderful local music . Virgin Rep and Car hire Rep very good , reception staff excellent. Location amazing nearly opposite the garrison Savannah racecourse lovely to run round in the early morning and see the horses training . The road is very busy but great for transport links got to try the reggae buses . The boardwalk is not far away or Carlisle Bay . On the whole we had a wonderful time and would recommend this hotel anytime , could do with a stronger wi fi and maybe reduce the number of stairs which are hazardous when wet but these are minor issues .

It was a return visit and again we were not disappointed. This time we had a suite which was very spacious and extremely comfortable. My grandson, who is now nearly four, had a great time and the staff were really patient with him! All in all it was another wonderful holiday.

This is one of the cheaper all inclusive offerings on the island and, when you acknowledge that and also appreciate that some areas of the building date back 200+ years, you have to be impressed with this hotel. The main buffet restaurant, Drifters, is, at best, 3* but the a la carte option, Rachel’s is very good. We didn’t try Chopstix, the Asian option. It’s worth paying a little extra for the Virgin Club room option. I don’t think you get a better room but you do get the Deck which is an area of the beach with more luxurious sun loungers, personal service, cocktails, snacks etc. You also get a better choice for lunch. What makes this hotel special is the service. All the staff work tirelessly to make your stay an experience to remember. WiFi is fine throughout but a little unreliable on the beach. Our favourite cocktail is a BBC which is banana, Bacardi and coconut. Creamy!! We hired a car for a day which is an experience if you like getting lost! Navigating this island is a nightmare! We stayed in a Plantation room (217) which, at best would also be 3*. It is in the old part of the hotel, close to the road. Aircon was excellent. So, I’m rating this 4* because of Rachel’s and the staff. The staff would get 5*. Well done team!!!

Good and cozy resort! The staff is very helpful. Food in Rachel’s is amazing!! The hotel is situated on the south side of Barbados. Local shops/pharmacy and restaurants are also a short walk away. Overall had a good experience in Barbados!!

It’s the staff that make this hotel

This is our 4th time here and our last day today. I’m trying to be completely honest as well as realistic for people who may be considering staying here. It’s really key to mention that Barbados is not a cheap destination and this hotel is one of the less expensive places on the island. There are hotels available here with marble bathrooms, Food on all day, bands playing every night etc but you’ll pay several thousand more. The completely homogenous Hiltons of this world are available but you pay seriously more for them. The Savannah has nice rooms, with excellent beds and amazing aircon. The bathrooms are older but this doesn’t spoil your stay. The food is generally very good and I’d say that Rachel’s has improved greatly in terms of standard and speed of service. If you’re expecting Marcus Wareing to serve you lobster here it’s not going to happen but the food is always very acceptable, breakfast in particular is top class. What you will find here though, and this can absolutely make your holiday is that the staff are just exceptional. We’ve got to know some over the years and they are such lovely people. Jackie, Kamisha, Richard, Tyrone on the bar, Petal, Lynette, Horace and Edwin will literally do anything to help you and make your stay as you would wish. Also, some of the youngsters that they’ve brought in are a real credit to this place. So polite and helpful. My advice is to go out of your way to chat to the staff, get to know them a bit and they will make sure you’re never waiting for a drink, always getting a table if possible and help you out. The GM is also a lovely lady. Very approachable and I think genuinely interested in your holiday. She spoke to me a few times just to see how we were doing. I haven’t given it 5 for two reasons. And both of these reasons must be so easy and cheap to fix. 1) Drifters can at times have the atmosphere of an exam hall. I don’t know if the guy who runs the evening there likes it quiet or silent but for crying out loud, ensure there’s always some music on. No one likes to sit and eat in silence. You’ve got the speakers, you’ve got the Bluetooth, so put some music on there at all times. It’s a better atmosphere at breakfast. When the entertainment comes on, it’s usually pretty good though. Some excellent singers. 2) Sort the WiFi. No excuses, just sort it. It’s nearly 2020. The WiFi is usually terrible, at times non existent. I run a business and got really frustrated at times. Please, sort these two things out and it’s a hell of a place to spend two weeks.
