Excellent Resort, Excellent Staff

We checked in to the Villa Del Palmar on the third of February and stayed for a week. The food and lodging were excellent, as you would expect from a resort of this caliber. The pools and beach areas, as well as the activities were enjoyable. The resort is north of Cancun and not within walking distance of many other resorts. Though our party was comprised entirely of adults the resort also seems to be family friendly. The resort does not have a frat party spring break vibe that some resorts in the hotel zone seem to have. The thing that really sets this resort ahead is the friendly and attentive staff that tend to your needs throughout the duration of your vacation. There are a few members of the staff that I would like to highlight due to their outstanding customer service and friendly attitudes. We were fortunate to have booked a “residence” on the property for our stay. The residences are larger suites with special amenities. Our room had two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a full kitchen and a large patio with hot tub. There is a VIP pool as well as special poolside and beach cabanas reserved for residence guests. The best perk of booking a residence is the inclusion of butler service. Our butlers for the week were Otikio and Rafael. Rafael met us in the lobby when we arrived and escorted us to our room where he checked us in and answered all our questions. Otikio checked us out from our room when we departed. It was nice to circumvent the typical check in/out process by completing transactions from the comfort of our room. Throughout the week both men were excellent in helping us book cabanas, activities, car service, as well as restaurants both onsite and off. Both were attentive and checked on us throughout the day to ensure our vacation was as enjoyable as possible. The were an excellent resource with local knowledge and were helpful to highlight the dos and don’ts of Mexican travel. We opted out of the all-inclusive package as one person in our party does not drink and it made more sense financially to just pay for our meals. Since we booked though Costco, our trip included free breakfast everyday at the hotel buffet. The first day we had a gentleman named Cesar as our waiter. Right out of the gate Cesar was responsive, funny and made for an enjoyable dining experience. Since we had good luck with Cesar, we asked for him by name for the rest of the week. After the first day, Cesar remembered our drink preferences and special requests. I would recommend asking for him by name, you will not be disappointed. The last person I would like to draw attention to is Guadalupe Garces. She was the maid who took care of our room. She is very friendly and does a great job. Our room was spotless every day as she cleaned it top to bottom. The cleaning staff and yard maintenance people are the unsung heroes of this type of resort. They keep everything nice and tidy, which makes the stay very enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Villa Del Palmar. If it is within your budget, I would recommend booking one of the residences as they provide an extra level of accommodation.

Cons: - Can be noisy. The hotel is basically squeezed within the city north limits now. Can take a while to get there as you’ll have to drive through the busy city. Across the street from the hotel there is an active life of construction, traffic noise if you are staying on the left side of the building from the lobby (we were awoken at 5:30am once hearing heavy truck/whatever doing something very noisy outside ?????), the sea ferry that is taking cars and tourists to Isla de Mujeres is also “next door” to the hotel which also attracts more traffic. - No evening buffet available for 2 days a week! For the ‘all inclusive’ hotel this is unacceptable. One evening we met a couple with a kid that just arrived asking us where to find a buffet and there wasn’t one that evening - they were shocked (we were as well)… travelling with kids you always go the buffet - because that’s the easiest way to eat. No lunch buffet available at all. To make a reservation in the restaurants - you’ll have to do it before you even go to the resort! Not much time slots are available once you are there or at all. We were told just to show up at the opening time - and it worked, we were told there are a lot of no show ups at the start. - Not enough working personal? Expect lines for breakfast (15-20 people waiting outside at peak time). - Not enough to accommodate everyone to eat at lunch. There is only one restaurant to eat lunch without reservation and it is not very big - one day we were told “sorry, we are all full, go to the snack bar”. Snack bar is small and expect to wait in the line as well. You can order food into the room and it was okay but options were small. - If you are going “all inclusive” (apparently you can stay there without that option and pay for everything) you’ll still have to sign receipts every single time you eat anywhere - it was somewhat annoying and probably creating waiting lines outside because you’ll have to sit and wait for a receipt ?? They probably do it so you would leave tips - but there is no problem just leaving cash at the table ?? - No visible showers by the swimming pools or hot tubs - only by the beach - you can imagine the water quality - Not enough lounge chairs by the pool! Most would be occupied long before breakfast. Hotel people please implement idea of towel cards that would surely could help to have more available spots and not having someone’s towels sitting there all day without actual people present. - Snorkelling is boring by the hotel - please hotel people add some boulders by the furthest away buoys to attract fish ?? - We saw some poop in the sea water 2-3 days - I hope it was manatees lol Pros: - Rooms are very nice. Free gummy bears, snacks and drinks daily ?? The washing machine and the dryer in the room - that is a big thump up ?? (comes with 2 detergent pods) - Food was very good at the restaurants but okay in the buffets - Beach is good - Nice music within the hotel area (Enya, Scorpions, Enigma, Mariah Carey, etc and some newer singers as well) - Free lounge with showers if your departing time long after check out time

The resort was very nice. It’s a secluded property, so it’s expensive to go do stuff. The resort itself doesn’t offer anything in the evenings, which was disappointing since the other villa del locations have much more to do at the resort and within an affordable distance. We did all-inclusive, the food was really good. But if you want to eat at any places, you have to make reservations weeks in advance. The floaty course was not as pictured for the 9 days we were there, half was missing the whole time. Service pool side was lots of waiting, even when tipping well. Best part was getting a boat and snorkeling. Don’t plan to return, was ok.
You family will love it!

We have been to this resort more than 10 times and love it! We are on our way for another trip this upcoming week. The staff and managers, Jose Rios and Amr Idris, are super helpful and responsive at Villa Del Palmar Cancun. There is a very low turnover of employees at this resort, and you can tell the employees are taken care of very well. We will be staying at Garza Blanca (next door) this year, but our kids will want to spend a lot of time at the Villa pools. They always make sure we have a care free vacation, and we look forward to catching up with the staff whenever we go there.
