Magical! That’s how our whole family (husband, 5 kids with ages ranging from 12 to 22 years old) describes our stay at Hyatt Regency Maui from May 28 to 31, 2019. The hotel staff were all so friendly and accommodating, making us all feel welcome. The rooms were also very comfortable. There’s so much to do just at the hotel itself (not to mention exploring the island of Maui), that four days’ stay is nowhere near enough! • At 9:30 in the morning, there was penguin feeding in the lobby. Penguins! In Hawaii! Such a sight to see • There is Honolulu Coffee shop within the hotel grounds, perfect for having my morning cuppa joe or afternoon picker-upper. One time, I had Kona coffee pour over, which was great! • A self -service coin laundry room, where our family washed some of our clothes • There are small shops – one is even Macy’s! – for some shopping therapy. • There are three, yes, three pools to choose from! The main pool is a big resort pool, with waterfalls and even a swim-up bar for adults. We had such fun swimming and playing in the different pools. • The hotel is ocean-front, so our family swam on the beach and went on strolls along the white sands • Drums of the Pacific Luau – authentic luau, complete with fire dances -- perfect for the last night in Maui To Hyatt Regency Maui, and to the whole of magical, entrancing Maui, we will go back again! (Apologies for the delay in writing out this review. After a busy 2019, we are now all staying at home due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Our prayers for everyone’s good health, safety and well-being, including the hotel staff and employees. We look forward to the time when we can all safely travel again and enjoy the hospitality of good hotels like this one.)

A beautiful resort with AMAZING pools and amenities. One of the nicest, most well kept resorts we’ve ever been to. Our room was in one of the recently updated towers and it was beautiful and so comfortable. Food options were great, walking distance to many shops/restaurants and a short drive to downtown Lahaina. Perfect location and the staff at the hotel were all friendly and wonderful. We had an excellent stay and can’t wait to be back in the future!

SUMMARY: I see many reviews saying the rooms have been renovated, however we did not get lucky enough to experience one of these "beautiful" rooms. Be wary of booking this hotel anytime in the next year. It is definitely time for renovations! ROOMS: The room was rundown, poorly maintained, and out of date, the shower head leaked and had low water pressure, carpet was stained, mold in the tub grout, used q-tip on the floor, stains on the chairs, balcony table was broken, hallways were not swept - not what we expected from a Hyatt property, especially at the price that we paid over other high-profile brand hotels in the area. CHECK-IN PROCESS: I checked in via Online Checkin upon landing (40 minute drive from airport) and we arrived an hour LATER than what I had told them, due to stopping for dinner. The room was not ready when we arrived, however, and the credit card reader at the front desk was not working properly so check-in took even longer than normal (not sure why we bothered to check-in online, we saw no benefit). After that, we waited 2 hours for a rollaway bed to arrive (11 pm by then), even though it was requested during the reservation process & checked in virtually. UNDISCLOSED CONSTRUCTION: About half way through our stay, the front desk & valet was moved from one end of the property (near the elevators) to the other near the conference center (quite a further walk) & construction began at the front entrance and in the lobby. I chose this hotel over the Westin because the Westin stated clearly on their website that there would be construction & various pool closures during our stay. The Hyatt did not list any such inconveniences - very disappointing that this was not communicated, as it was clear from the ads posted throughout the hotel that they had been planning/completing room renovations. CORONA VIRUS RESPONSE: The hotel began shutting down services about half way through our stay due to coronavirus - understandably not their fault - but added to our frustrations at paying resort fees daily for things that were not available (yoga, fitness, luau, shopping, pool service, water activities, etc.). FOOD SERVICE: Our meals on property were so-so as far as preparation. We had overcooked mahi mahi at Sonz Steakhouse; the waiter here was excellent however. The last day my husband (who is food-safety certified) witnessed a food cross-contamination issue with the server using the ice cooler at the Umala restaurant. When politely brought to the server's attention, the server responded by arguing, saying it didn't happen. Service in restaurants and maid service was generally good when we asked for specific items (extra towels). Pool service was non-existent; we were not offered drinks or a menu poolside once during our 10 day stay. PARKING/VALET: Upon arrival, they informed us there was not currently a self-park option and we had to use valet ($10 more per day), but they would charge self-park rates. (We like to adventure with our 3 kids and there is always something accidentally left in the car so we prefer the access that self-park provides.) This was not reflected on our bill, we were charged valet rates anyway. The last night of our stay about 9 pm, I picked up all the items I needed to take inside & only then did the valet inform me that they were no longer parking cars (which was not supposed to start until midnight, per the hotel's notice - coronavirus again), even though there were two valets standing there watching me put on backpacks, beach umbrellas & coolers, obviously thinking valet would park the car, as usual. RESORT GROUNDS/LOCATION: The resort property itself is beautiful and our kids enjoyed the water features and the many unique birds on the property. Beachfront location is wonderful; Lahaina tourist area is a quick 5 minute drive.

Luxury on Ka’anapali Beach, with great renovations!

Just finished a long stay at the Hyatt—I’ve been coming here for the better part of two decades—and the service remains terrific and the renovations are great. Beds are comfortable and high enough to store luggage beneath them; linens are clean and white. The lanai (balcony) has been renovated with a glass wall to give a wider view. The divan is cozy and stylish. Wall-mounted TV still has accessible HDMI ports if you want to hook up a device. A clock radio (yay!) with usb ports is at the bedside, along with plenty of other plugs and ports. Bathroom area is very nice with glass and marble, and yes, you can still get rooms with bathtubs! Some rooms have walk-in showers but I love luxuriating in a bathtub. They are functional bathtubs, not luxe, but they’re there! I really like the clock display right in the mirror, too. Though closet space has been changed to an open layout, it’s nice and large with good storage space. Views will give you a mountain view (don’t downplay it; sunrise over the West Maui mountains is gorgeous) or a partial ocean view where you can see ocean from the lanai, or ocean views. I think the pool is the best on Ka’anapali Beach, with its huge swimmable space and deep sections (9 feet!) and its 24 hr experience (a midnight swim is the best!), and I think the same about the poolside food and casual outdoor restaurant ‘Umalu. There are amazing gourmet dishes like poke nachos and ceviche shrimp wraps; I’d rather eat there than at any other Ka’anapali Beach hotel. The Hyatt’s lobby shops are also extensive, with a Macy’s, coffee shop, two boutiques, a Sunglass Hut, two fine souvenir shops (jewelry/art) and a sundries/snack store. There is a spa on site, a 24 hr workout room, and complimentary yoga classes. You also share privileges with the Hyatt Residence Club next door and can use their pool and poolside dining, both very nice! Ka’anapali beach walk takes you to Whalers’ Village about a 10-15 minute walk away, full of designer stores, souvenir shops, an ABC store, and upscale casual dining plus a food court. Towards the end of my trip, the pandemic precautions began to take a hold of Maui; the staff did everything to keep us protected while still wanting to give us a great relaxing time. When they had to shut down dine-in service, they still had an extensive menu, slightly truncated from their casual dining menu, available for poolside dining, carry-out, or room service. Pool service and housekeeping took great care of us. The entire staff was calm and friendly and never made us feel worried that there would be shortages or that we would go untended. I wish I could pay all their wages for as long as the hotel’s affected

Booked through Southwest Vacations at the last minute! Hyatt rooms all have balconies or lanai's. Loved the breakfast included - excellent value! Ideal to have multiple pools and be directly on the beach! We were there during COVID-19 outbreak so a lot closed down but the hotel experience was still great!
