We found the property to be very scenic and clean. You arrive to an open air lobby which opens onto the beach. Check in was a little hectic and it was unclear how our luggage was getting up to our room, but it all worked out. We stayed in the rooms across the street from the main lobby. We were on the second floor (I didn't see an elevator if that is an issue for you). Your key card unlocks the gate and your room door. Our room was clean and quiet. The rooms have a balcony with a view of the pool. Very close to shops, restaurants, and there is even a grocery store nearby. You walk through the lobby directly onto a beautiful beach. The umbrellas on the beach outside the exit are rentals and all the chairs inside the wall on the grass are for use by any of the paying guests at the hotel.

The location of this hotel right on the beach is the best thing about it and the main reason that I booked a stay at this resort. However, there was an incident during our stay that was poorly handled by the staff and is the reason for my negative review. While walking back from breakfast one morning during our stay, my mother slipped on the walkway outside of our room (there was no caution sign but we noticed afterward that the floor was slippery) and hit her head. A couple walking behind us who saw this happen ran to the security room and asked them to get help. No one came. I then left my mother and called the front desk to ask them to send help. After waiting several minutes, while my mother was still on the ground and no one came to help, my sister and I were able to assist her up and into our room. Still not one employee showed up. I ran across the street to the front desk to see why they had not sent anyone to help and request they send someone to check on my mother. A security guard came with me back to the room, but he did not appear to be trained in first aid. Another security person showed up with what appeared to be a medical bag, but he did not go over to my mother or ask her any questions. Finally, they got another staff member, who I think was a bellhop based on his uniform, who spoke English, and told my mother we could walk to the medical clinic near the hotel. He was the one who accompanied us to the clinic and was the most helpful, (unfortunately I did not get his name.) The slow response from the hotel staff is unacceptable when an accident occurs on their property. I will not be staying at this hotel again based on this experience.

We arrived and had a prompt check in however the ground level room standard assigned to us was uninhabitable - it smelled strongly of mould and dampness and the door leading to the outside (by the sidewalk and busy roadway) was broken. We did not want to stay there so went to the desk to inform them of the issues. The staff person said "yeah, the door is broken" but didn't really care or offer to have someone come and fix it. I stated my safety concern regarding a broken door but had no reply. We refused the room also because of the smell and were told there were no other standard rooms available. The staff found one ocean view room "empty" and we agreed to take it for 11 nights (we were staying 2 weeks) and move to a different room after that - staff told us the ocean view room was only available for 11 nights. We discussed the room issues with our Sunwing Rep when we met him to book tours. He spoke to staff at the hotel immediately stating that the solution offered wasn't acceptable. After speaking with staff, the Sunwing Rep informed us we would have the room for the entire stay and no further charges. HOWEVER, on day 11 of our stay we received a phone call that "our room was ready" and had to move - DESPITE the Sunwing Rep having been given assurances from hotel staff that we had the room for the duration. Needless to say we were not pleased. Throughout these interactions with staff, at no time did anyone apologize for the state of the original room, show any consideration for the inconveniences, or for that matter seems at all interested. It was only because we got Sunwing management involved that we got a small discount on the cost of the upgraded room as a form of apology I guess - but at NO time did any hotel management attempt to contact us to discuss or apologize. Other issues: saw staff cleaning around the pool deck with a power washer pushing all the dirt from the deck into the pool; pools contained a lot of leaves, sticks and gravel ; dirty and torn cushions on a large number of the chairs in the outdoor dining area; staff not very interested in the guests; poor WIFI in the Block A (which was important as my husband had some work he needed to keep up on) ....I could go on. But I think the point is made - this is an average hotel with below average service. I wouldn't recommend it and have told my friends who were interested in Costa Rica not to book there. Its unfortunate as it could be stellar but it wasn't. I have never had this type of poor experience anywhere else - not even in 3 star resorts. I guess in the final analysis - poor management shows in the staff and in this case it was definitely evident.

We stayed at this hotel as couples. The grounds are beautiful and the location is what you pay for. Otherwise the quality, cleanness, noise level, and service is as good as a 3 star hotel max. The rooms we stayed (pool view) require renovation. The room fridge was empty. After midnight you couldn't find drinking water anywhere in the hotel. We were referred by concierge to purchase water at the local casino at a higher rate. Btw, the casino is owned by the hotel. So we felt we were being taken advantage of. Be aware and I really mean be aware of the tour company situated in the lobby of the hotel. The customer service and management by Brian was a disaster. Unfortunately he only enjoyed referring to himself as the "boss" but did not know the basics of being one. Feel free to walk just few blocks out of the hotel and you can find the same tours at lower price and same level of service and insurance coverage. Also for taxi to the airport, just grab one from across the street at a competitive price. There are plenty.

Newly remodeled beach bar area is nice. Service is non existent. Was the only one at the bar waiting to order a coke...it took ten minutes for som5to even look at me. Am a tour guide and had a group of ten staying at hotel. Everyone was treated with terrible service. Rooms are outdated and smell of mildew. Although the location is in the center of things I cannot recommend this hotel. If you pick to be by the adult pool your view from your patio is greenery not pool and is across the street from lobby, restaurant, bar and beach. The front desk would not assist with calling a cab for clients and would say they would give you a wake up call but did not. Had a couple going on a tour for the day that left hotel at 3:45am. I personally asked front desk for a wake up call and received none. Thank goodness we set alarms as they would have missed tour. There is no night life at this resort if you are looking for that. Bar closes early. I would suggest margaritaville instead.
