this property could be 5 star... oriental and Italian restaurants were very good but limited menus, the buffet was below average for lunch and dinner, fried fish on lunch buffet our first day and that was it for seafood, hugely disappointing. first club rooms could be so much nicer, attention to detail and little accountability goes a long way. staff were wonderfully friendly and genuine. first club bar was excellent

We had an amazing stay. Enrique and his crew, Antonio, Alonzo, Steven, everyone was super nice. They literally spoiled us. Any thing we needed or wanted , we got. The only thing I would add, is more entertainment. There were days around 9pm, we were looking for things to do. Other than that, everything was amazing.

There's a guide named Larry on the beach who is great. He has excellent English and is very knowledgeable about the local history, wildlife and geology. We took 2 excursions with him and enjoyed them both.

My husband and I just wanted to get away and out previous stay here was great so we decided to come back and even with that pandemic it was better the second time around. The service was amazing!!!!!!

We just returned from Occidental Papagayo, we were two couples traveling together. The resort is beautiful, as stated in other reviews there is a lot of walking and stairs so if mobility is an issue you might want to reconsider this property. I felt like everyone was careful, cleaning and wearing masks both on and off the property. The resort was very quiet during the week due to the pandemic, on weekends the local Costa Ricans come to stay and it is much busier. The food is good but very redundant I'm sure due to the low attendance. There are two restaurants the Italian was excellent and the Asian was OK. Check- in was the only real issue we had, I had booked a one Bedroom but we're put in two hotel rooms. When I asked to be moved on Saturday we were told with a touch of attitude no one could help until Monday. I asked again Sunday and was told they could move us Monday.....at least that was an acceptable answer. The rooms were nice and comfortable with a nice view. We did have an AC problem that they tried to fix, one was fixed the other wasn't but that one was in the living room. They offered to move us but we opted to stay where we were. The pools are beautiful, warm and well maintained. The beach is small and secluded with some rocks but the water is so warm and amazing. The Staff definitely made the trip, I would like to thank Enrique who greeted us every morning and assisted with any needs we had as well as David, Antonio, Carlos and Olman that always had a smile and pleasant greetings even after working a very long day. The Howler monkeys were allusive until we found out where to look, we had racoons, iguanas, parrots on the property as well. We went to the rainforest to see the blue river and the sloths, a very long day with lots of stairs but well worth it it's amazing to see. thank you Eddy and Caesar. We used Frank the Tank for out excursion and our airport transfers and he was a wealth of knowledge and competitively priced. I was having problems getting any information from the resort ahead of our trip and Frank answered every one of them, he also lined up our Covid tests and called when our results were late. I can't recommend him enough! If you stay at the resort there are some guys on the beach that offer excursions, very low pressure, we used Larry for a catamaran sunset cruise and had a great time. Gladys is also on the beach providing $45 an hour massages, such a nice lady. All in All the resort is beautiful, the country is beautiful but the people are truly amazing and made the trip perfect.
