    I signed up and created an account with Barcelo.com. Using my Barcelo account, I then created a 7-day reservation for the Occidental Papagayo in November 2019. Prior to leaving on this vacation, I checked on my Barcelo account to confirm that I would acquiring their advertised membership benefits, but there were no records. When I called the representative at Barcelo, she reviewed my account and said that the Reception Personnel at the Hotel would be able to ensure we acquire benefits. When we arrived, there was much confusion. Fortunately, I could logon to my Barcelo account from my Mobile phone, hand it to the Occidental Papagayo staff, and then confirm I was a registered member. My email confirmation with my booking came from noreply@barcelo.com. This significant inconvenience at the beginning of my vacation resulted in our Check-in Process exceeding 1 hour. While the other 2 couples were already in their rooms. They still did not provide us the Barcelo benefits or add the reservation to our Barcelo.com account. When we arrive to room, we learn that the WiFi Login information provided to us was Expired. We had to replace our room key cards because they failed to work. I was told from the front desk that it was a known issue with the cards, but these failings resulted in inconveniences for us. Returned to our rooms from dinner at 10PM and had to WALK all the way back to reception. It is not close at all to the reception area. You can call for transportation, but we could not get into our room to call. There are times during the day you cannot get any food or snacks. Two bottled water a day limit. We had to beg at times to get extra bottled water? The staff even asked us if we have received our two bottles of water before giving us any extra bottles. Housekeeping took our pool towels that they will charge 35.00 per pool towel if you do not return your towels. Housekeeping also took our room card from our room when we left for a snack as you need to keep it in a slot in order to keep power on in the room. We paid extra for the DELUXE CONCIERGE which are the most expensive rooms which you get no concierge or anything extra for. The premium rooms are less and you actually get extra services with. The staff is wonderful with the exception of the front desk. It is a beautiful area and a lot of other hotels in the area that you would have a better experience with. I am still waiting for the Barcelo.com group to respond back to my email and it has been over a week. They emailed me back within 24 hours before we got to the hotel now it has been over a week and not a word from them.

    The staff was wonderful. Resort was very clean and the food was okay. Not a great selection. It was peaceful and not far from the airport. This was a very relaxing trip for us. Costa Rica is a beautiful country. so much to see and do

    Everything looks great. Once you are checked in, things start to decline. The location of the room on the base floor of building was scary and dark during the daytime. No elevator and very little assistance with luggage to the room and absolutely none when checking out. 1st day no hot water in shower. Everyday after the shower would not drain and somehow flooded the entire room. The bathroom, through the bedroom, to the back patio had water after a shower. Everyday after I would have to turn shower on and off to keep from flooding. Maintenance only plunged drain and housekeeping swept water from room. No apologies, no room change, and hard to get daily towels. Mosquitos and biting bugs in the room were horrible. Take not only bug repellant but bug spray to kill. I bought a bug repellant plug-in during trip to Coco Beach for the room that helped me to survive. Deet was not enough. The grounds were beautiful but be careful there are skunks. Short walk to private beach and short ride to Coco Beach for shopping. The food was good and service at the buffet was nice. Coffee was excellent. First time to Costa Rica. My only issues during the trip were all related to this resort.

    This is not the place to go to party all night (but we weren't looking for that) it was the PERFECT place to go relax & take in the beauty of Costa Rica you can do as much or as little as you want. The hotel & grounds were well kept they were always cleaning & improving on things like a new wifi antenna going up to improve on complaints about wifi reception but that was not an issue I was on vacation & not looking to be on my cell phone all day. The rooms, pool everything was clean & neat. Everything is spread out & there is some walking which is nice because you don't feel crowded & who can't use a little exercise after eating all the great food & desserts they do have transportation if you do not want to walk. There was Some small problems with communication but what foreign country is there no problems if you do not speak the language?? the staff was very accommodating and did everything possible to correct any problems no matter how small they even made a special meal one night @ the Buffett when there was nothing my partner really liked and they always made you feel welcome and always had a smile when greeting you. The food was excellent at the buffet plenty of choices and both al a carte restaurants were very good, The Italian food was as good as anyplace I have been in Boston's Italian North End neighborhood. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to get away for a stress free vacation.

    The staff was amazing , people are so friendly and helpful. The rooms were always Clean, good food on the buffet And restaurants(donuts are to die for), lots of activities to do from relaxing to adventure, plenty of opportunities to see the wildlife that is around the resort to. We stayed for a week and absolutely loved every minute of it.
