My girlfriend and I went to Planet Hollywood to kick off 2020. We were a little worried at first as Costa Rica isn't really seen as a resort hot spot like Mexico or the DR. However, we were pleasantly surprised as to how modern, well appointed and clean the resort was. The food was some of the best I've ever had at an all inclusive, the drinks were fantastic and almost all the staff spoke fluent English, making things much easier. We paid for star class which wouldnt't totally worth it in my opinion if it wasn't for our "agent" Pablo. He greeted us on the first night, walked us around the whole resort, gave us his whatsapp, and was available to us the entire time. I felt like I was catching up with an old friend as he showed us around. As the week progressed we would bro hug upon meeting, and my girlfriend and I Didnt have to lift a finger. Unless it was to type on whatsapp to make a request. He even went as far as to sprint back to the room for us when our departure bus was waiting to grab shoes my girlfriend left in the behind. Pablo was nothing short of excellent. The sports bar is a hidden gem for those looking for an air conditioned lunch, and fuel is a must have each morning. Forget coffee at the soCal or buffet. Get a latte from here, trust me. Shout out to Bermond at the lobby bar and his specialty cocktails, as well as Mario in the pool bar. Guys are on point. If you book a cabana, pray you get Ivan, all in all, we would go back this instant.

The resort is really nice and for the most part the service is good. However, make sure you keep track of your bills because they will put in higher prices and charges. Tried to resolve with hotel but they would not give me a ride to airport until I paid. So, we paid and then am talking to my agent and credit card provider to resolve. Be aware!

I visited Planet Hollywood in January 2020 for a week, where we booked in as star class clients. The check in was quick and easy in the star class lounge and we were greeted by our personal agent Ernesto. We were taken to our room and given the rundown of the amenities and the resort. Our stay overall was pretty good and the staff certainly made the trip amazing. Special shout out to the following staff that went above and beyond during our stay: Servers/hostess: Diego and Isabelle at the buffet Bartenders at the pools: Greybin, Ivan, Kevin, Jaun, Edder , Aleuldy and Handsome Bartenders at the lobby bar: Sergio, Bermond, Byron Personal Agent: Ernesto The rooms: they are a decent size with a beautiful walk in shower and very comfortable bed. We were on the third floor so we had a great view of the bay and pool. If you have mobility issues, you will need a lower level room as there is no elevators in most buildings. The grounds of the resort: the resort is very pretty and is set into the hillside so again, if mobility is an issue it is not necessarily the resort for you. There are continual trolleys that circulate the property every 10 min and take you wherever you need to go. The pools were fairly clean most of the week. Amenities: The gym was typical for a resort gym- some machines were not functioning but you could get a good workout in. There were a good amount of daily activities to participate in during the day. The night life was a bit lacking and the resort was fairly quiet by 11pm. The spa was very clean and everyone was very friendly. If you have star class, you are eligible to use the hydrotherapy services daily. Food: the buffet always had plenty of choices and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We tried all of the specialty restaurants except for the Japanese and truly enjoyed the steak house and Italian the best. We were able to book reservations through our personal agent Ernesto for every dinner, which came in handy because we always knew what time dinner was at and where we were eating. Beach: the beach is volcanic sand so it is extremely hot and you need to wear sandals when walking on it during the day. We didn’t spend a lot of time down at the beach, but we did enjoy seeing the monkeys that visited the beach area almost everyday. The only downfall I found with the resort was the value of the star class wristband. We have been to many resorts in the past where the upgraded wristband served its value both in access to amenities and the top shelf liquor. Planet Hollywood has really missed the mark with this service. While the star class provides its clients with a personal agent, which is extremely helpful for reservations and small needs that may arise during your stay, they are not exactly forth coming with how the top shelf liquor aspect works. Yes, you have access to to shelf liquor, but only in the lobby bar, star class lounge and the star class pool and certainly not 24 hours a day. We personally were hardly ever in the lobby and did not enjoy the star class pool as it was very quiet and removed from the excitement of the main pools. We spent most of our time at the main pools, where were had no access to the top shelf liquors we were entitled to. When I questioned Larry from upper management, he promised to deliver a better whiskey the following day to the pool- he never did and in fact ignored us the remainder of the trip as though he had never spoken to us. When I brought it up to the personal agent and he raised the issue with his upper management and again we were promised a replacement bottle of liquor in our room as well as better liquor at the pool and again it was an empty promise- no fault of our agent who did try. The point is: the staff at this resort go above and beyond to make their clients happy- remembering our names, what we liked in our coffee, what drinks we liked at the bars, etc but there is a huge disconnect between the staff and the upper management. I would definitely recommend this resort, but I would say skip the star class unless it’s one heck of a deal because it really doesn’t meet its value.

We arrived at PH on January 8th. We booked Star Class, and feel that it was worth every penny. Upon arrival at the resort, we were immediately met by our personal agent Fernanda and taken to the Star Class lounge for check-in. Fernanda then took us to our room, showed us how everything worked, and gave us a tour of the resort. When we returned to the lobby, there were still people from our bus (it was a large bus) waiting to check in. So right away, Star Class was worth it for us. Fernanda made us a supper reservation for that night as well, and took care of all our reservations for the rest of the week. We wanted to book a cabana for a day, so she reserved us one with an excellent view of the pool area so we could watch the pool activities, and also one that provided a bit of shade as I can't stay in the sun for long periods of time. Fantastic attention to details that we would not have thought of. We enjoyed the location so much, we booked it again for another day. She really went above and beyond to check in with us and make sure everything was to our liking, even on her day off. She is an excellent personal agent, and a beautiful person as well. Room: We used the option to book our room online, and booked room 11401. Fourth floor of building 11, corner suite. The view was incredible and we found the location perfect for what we like when vacationing. Food: This is the first resort I've ever been to that I have immensely enjoyed the buffets. My husband prefers buffet, I prefer a la carte, but the breakfast, lunch and supper buffets were very very good.....lots of options, fresh grilled meat at lunch and supper to your taste. Star Class has separate seating for the buffet, which seemed to be a little cooler than the main eating area. Also, Star Class has the option for a la carte breakfast, which I enjoyed a few mornings. Diego, our waiter at the Star Class breakfast seating area was the best waiter we had all week. His quiet manner, fantastic smile, and attention to detail were superb. He is truly a gem. We used room service for coffee when we woke up, so we could enjoy the beautiful sunrise. We rented a cabana by the pool for 2 days. Our waiter for both days was Jarvi. If I could have brought him home, I probably would have. He was excellent. No drink was finished without him bringing another. He delivered lunch, towels, anything else you could possibly need, and was lovely to chat with on the rare occasion that he wasn't running to get something for someone in a cabana. Excellent service. We found the shuttle service to be very efficient. The longest we ever waited was 5 minutes, at a peak time when everyone is leaving the pool area to get ready for supper. Jeffery really stood out for us. In the short trips up and down the hill, he was always quick with a smile and so very pleasant to chat with. He also brought our luggage to our room when we arrived, and did so with great care for our belongings. One thing we noticed right away was the uniforms for the staff. The are mostly all black, and would be immensely hot for people that work so hard and are in the sun most of the time. And they all do work very hard. PH, perhaps you should consider changing the color of the uniforms for your hard-working employees. The beach is black sand, and it is very hot. We are not really beach people, we tend to enjoy the pools on vacation much more, so we didn't mind that the beach wasn't fantastic, and enjoyed seeing the black sand. All in all, it was a wonderful week full of wonderful people at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica.

We have been here since Monday travelling from the UK with tui. Firstly it's really hot and is the beginning of summer so temps due to rise before we go home. We are non star class and haven't felt like we are being treated any differently. Our room is a good size with two doubles and an excellent shower. Rooms have been made up each morning and bar restocked without a hitch. We are in building 18 which is on the main route from the lobby to the beach with a regular shuttle service. We vowed to walk everywhere when we arrived but the heat has knocked that on the head. The lobby houses reception and three restaurants and a bar plus a pub. The other two restaurants are at the beach. Food is ok but we have had better in the Caribbean previously. It's all edible and plenty of choice just nothing to write home about. Drinks are fine. House white is gluggable and my husband says the imperial beer is fine. Mini bar in room has pepsi, beer, water and seven up. Last night I collected a glass of wine in the lobby bar and brought it back to the room. Movies in English and good air con makes the room a haven in the afternoon. Beach is not your usual white sand but we think it's beautiful. Stunning views from the lobby across a wide bay. Beach safe for kids but sand and around pool is very hot. There are trees at the beach which gives some dabbled shade but shade is a bit of a problem in the resort as a whole. There are umbrellas but they go quickly. We have seen monkeys on the beach twice and a coati mundi plus some huge birds. The monkeys are inquisitive but not a nuisance. They ask you not to feed them but people ignore this. If you are going to get bitten it's because you are stupidly feeding a wild animal and they do show their teeth!! For us this kind of wildlife is wonderful. You can book trips at the hotel through their own tour company or through tui. We are doing a rum tour and boat trip, a sloth walk, a trip across to coca beach on a boat. The cocoa beach boat ride is 30 dollars each and other trips range from 95 to 165 dollars so it's not a particularly cheap place. The hotel is very new and designed with a younger crowd in mind. We are in our 50s and the music is not an issue for us around the pool but it is loud. In the room no issue. There are lots of young children and we normally go to adults only hotels but opted for this one as it had better reviews than others. Service isn't the best and this is what possibly let's it down. Drinks never come together and sometimes late. I had finished breakfast this morning before my tea arrived and my wine at lunch time never materialised. Stairwells with accumulated dust and rubbish were cleaned today but that's the first time since we arrived. The staff are lovely but I suspect not enough of them. A corporate chain is possibly interested in its profits above staff ratios. For that reason I would give it four stars rather than five
