This is definitely a 2 or 3 star hotel. I took a chance with hotel because of the raving reviews but sadly it didn't live up to my expectations. Firstly the food is meh and the same items are repeated every day with 1 or if lucky 2 additions to the menu. The alcoholic drinks are watered down and there is always a queue at the bar. Now let's start with the rooms. The lift to the rooms is unlike anything I've seen or experienced in my existence. There is 3-4mins wait for the lift and when it does arrive it is like stepping into a furnace with ventilation. We were placed on the 4th floor and we could hear the loud midday and evening entertainment which stopped me from having my afternoon naps and going to bed early as the music stopped at 10.30pm on most days. We complained to reception and requested a room change and they told us the come back at 3pm the next day. When we did come back they offered to move us to a smaller room the day after. At this point I was fed up and declined the offer as I only had 4 days left on my holiday. The air conditioning in our room was mediocre and ineffective - we were warm at night. The jerk hut and free watersports were our highlights and ultimately saved this place. Overall I would stay here again. I think the staff are rude and unfriendly with the exception of Gary the lifeguard. The front desk staff looked fed up and are unwelcoming.

My Mum and I visited back in March and had a superb time at the Holiday Inn and for a reasonable price. We were very happy with the room (comfy beds, good aircon. Sometimes cold/low pressure shower at peak showering times). The little 'island' off the beach is a nice touch and there were plenty of sunbeds to choose from. Great snorkelling just around the island! The beach is well looked after as are the pools, and the hotel in general. The grounds are very tidy and you always see garden maintenance men around looking after the area. We visited the Italian restaurant twice which was good both times and made a nice change from the buffet experience. The Jamaican restaurant I found was a bit bland for the 1 veggie option (lettuce and drizzle starter and bean stew main), but the fish restaurant on the beach was very nice and offered nice vegetarian options. The buffet was always well stocked and lots of choice - as you can expect there is some repetition during 2 weeks but overall there were plenty of options. Once again there were good vegetarian options, not just salads and bog-standard pastas. Some nights they even had curries/stews with imitation meat and lentils which made a great change. We ended up booking our tours through TUI as between the two of us, trying to book private taxis/guides was a bit too expensive. This might work out more affordable in a larger group. Our rep was very informative and honest - not just trying to book as many trips as possible. Our trips included Martha Brae river rafting (lovely relaxing trip, a little pricey for a short trip but I think it was worth it. Please note that if you do the trip, the rafter will make you a personalised coconut shell gift and expect $20 for this, so make a point of saying No straight away if you don't want it or don't have the money with you - keep an eye out if they are scratching away at a coconut during the trip and ask your name!). Sadly our guide wasn't particularly informative even when we asked questions but I believe other guides are very knowledgeable, so it's luck of the draw! Regardless a very nice, close-to-nature feeling trip. We also went on the Dunns River Falls/Bob Marley tour (not Kingston) which was a great all-day tour where a lot was covered! Our guide was fantastic and engaging throughout the day and we learnt a lot. Climbing the falls was wonderful (don't forget your sea-shoes! Or buy some locally before the trip like we did) and a real sense of achievement at the end. Lunch was a little bland but kept us going. Whilst going around the Bob Marley tour, our guide was trying so hard to be funny (with a repetitive, annoying show-laugh) that we didn't learn as much as we'd have liked, however overall it was worth the trip and judging by the whole day, it was a good experience. Again, it depends on who you get! Our last trip was a boat day stopping at Ricks Cafe for sunset which was a fabulous day out. With a nice lunch and drinks included, the boat stopped at multiple locations for snorkelling (I saw a baby stingray!), and stopped at the infamous Ricks Cafe for sunset drinks and live music. The tour offered a coach journey home after sunset with tasty snacks on board. A recommended trip! Overall we had a great stay at the Holiday Inn resort and would recommend to others looking for a Jamaican getaway!

This was my second visit to holiday inn &it was nothing like I experienced last year. Last year I spent 4 days &3 nights & the service was awesome. Checking in was a breeze and the staff were polite & helpful, especially doc the life guard. This year was 3 days 2 nights... checking in was a breeze as well but there was no bell man to show us to our room, I saw them standing around as if there was nothing to do. Anyway, I found it by asking other people. All the restaurants were full so we ended up eating at the buffet...what a mess... food options were really limited & very cold but the staff were polite &always smiling. Thank god the grill was open after! Breakfast.... food still crappy & very limited. Grill again to the rescue at 12 then the jerk hut. We had reservations for the sorrento and let me tell u how annoyed I was at the waitress. I dont know if she was a trainee or she was new but she barely smiled, we got no appetizer and we had to wait 40 MINUTES on the food-- can u imagine no appetizer & having to wait that long? I had to ask for the wine which we got no refill. So 1 glass had to serve us through dinner. She didnt introduce herself either instead she just handed us the menu. Time for dessert-- I had to ask what is available &she clearly made me know that it was on the menu she gave me earlier. What kind of service is that? Anyway, I got back the menu & ordered. On our last day we were hanging out by the barefoot bar-- again another bad service. This bartender had on black & white so I don't know if he was new or a trainee but he was in such a bad mood serving everyone. Water sports staff was more gathering & talking instead of attending to guests. We wanted to use the paddle boat I think it is but we were told its not in use, only to see 2 other couples using it & clearly they were tipped for that. Holiday inn do better!! This wasn't the service before. Some staff are well trained &made our stay good especially the jerk hut & the snack bar & house keepers & front desk. But others neeeeddd to be trained. They buffet needs more options & the food should not be cold.

Just what we needed after a terrible year, Jamaica never fails to impress us!

So it’s been just over 2 weeks since we came home and oh my goodness I am dying to be back! Just wanted to give a little review of our stay while we were there! So we stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort for two weeks from September 16-30th and I can honestly say we had a fantastic time! It was just myself and my best friend and we came with the intention of just having a really chilled out couple of weeks to catch up, sun bath and just relax! To be honest we have both had a pretty terrible year and this holiday came at the right time! From the moment we step into the hotel we both sighed a sigh of relief and it was like we had arrived home! We were greeted at check in with a Rum Punch and from then on it was bliss! From amazingly friendly staff to our gorgeous ground floor room over looking the ocean and pool I can honestly say I’m missing it more and more every day! We managed to do a fair bit this time that we never got to do last year. We came to the holiday inn last February with lots of my family but that consisted of doing lots of tours and exploring the island and all that Jamaica had to offer, however this time we really got the opportunity to see what this hotel offers! We spent loads of time using the pool and jacuzzi, having naps in the sun loungers, reading our books (even after a child threw mine in the pool haha) plus spending most evenings playing volley ball and then moaning at the lifeguards when they told us we had to get our the pool at 6pm! (I might add here that we became friends with some of the lifeguards so when we were moaning it was taken in good faith and we had lots of fun with them saying how I bet they loved kicking us out the pool, it was like it was there favourite time of day ??). We also got to spend lots of time in the sea, snorkelling and seeing some amazing fish and aquatic life that roam around the private island and near the pier near the adults end of the resort.. please don’t ask me what kind of fish because I honestly couldn’t tell you! ?? although we did see sting rays and eels, those I know!! We also got to walk the entire resort really admiring each area, visited the gym, played a game of giant chess (or checkers as we did because I don’t know how to play chess ??), has a go at mini golf and then sat in the pier hut taking everything in! We also got to experience some amazing dinning too! We returned to the Italian restaurant twice this trip and on both occasions the food was excellent! Super tasty and super filling! Our servers were amazingly attentive and made our evenings! We also got to experience the Japanese restaurant which is a teppanyaki restaurant which is a first for me and oh my god it was amazing!! So good that we went twice! A lot of people are out off by this restaurant because it’s a $20 sur-charge PP but it was worth double that for sure! The service, entertainment, food and atmosphere were great and our chefs, Chef Jason and Kirby were fantastic! They made us laugh, kept us entertained and filled out belly’s! Plus we used the main buffet restaurant many times on different days/evenings and as always the food was excellent! Some nights we didn’t even fancy a big meal so we had a burger and fries from the barefoot grill and the food there is also fab! Lunches mostly considered of cheesy chilli nachos and jerk hut delights which again were fantastic! I can honestly say you will never go hungry in this resort! And you certainly won’t go thirsty either! I have a new found and unhealthy love of Rum Cream, so much so I had to buy myself a bottle in the airport on the way home! And for anyone asking yes I have made mudslides since I’ve been back! ?? As returning guests also we got invited to a special event which was hosted by the hotel managers, so we got our glad rags on and headed over to the lobby where we got told to head upstairs to the conference room where we were treated like royalty, got served a beautiful 4 course meal, endless amounts of wine/champagne, followed by entertainment and prizes to be won! We got to meet some of the entertainment staff, who also sat down to dinner with us, as well as some lovely guests too! And that night was also topped off by an evening of Karaoke.. which yes we did sing and yes it wasn’t the best because we were rather drunk at this point! ?? but still we made loads of friends that evening singing songs, dancing, laughing then heading up to Port Royal bar for more mudslides! ?? Every evening the place was lite up with lights and music was booming out of speakers of incredibly talented singers or some fantastic musicians so you are never failed to be entertained throughout your stay! We also treated ourselves to a spa treatment at the Sol-Mer spa which included a full body massage with essential oils, warm towels and the most relaxing atmosphere! Our massage therapist were amazingly attentive, made us feel very comfortable and were kept dignified! The whole treatment cost $130 for the both of us and we found that to be a very reasonable price especially walking away feeling so relaxed and like we were walking on clouds! I will say for you ladies, if you are having the scalp massage too, take your hair down, I had mine in a loose bun and once the therapist had finished I looked like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards ???? the hair was a nest! But I didn’t care it was amazing lol! I think the thing that sealed it in for both myself and Nicola was the amazing people we met while we were there. We made some incredible friends both guests and staff who I can honestly say made our holiday! So many evenings filled with laughter and good memories it’s them we miss mostly! We had a fantastic time and can honestly recommend this hotel to anyone who chooses to stay in Jamaica. The staff are friendly, they get treated well and they all seem to love there job and for me that makes me so happy to know people are being treated well! And we have every intention of returning in the near future!
