Wonderful Hotel

Had a fantastic week at San Souci. Stayed in a spacious ocean suite in Block G which was comfortable and cleaned daily with a large balcony. There are stairs so you get a good workout which works off the all inclusive and you walk through wonderful gardens and vistas. Lunch at the beach bar was great so close to the shore and the fish tacos was very tasty. Our favourite restaurant was the Casanova. All the staff are amazing and very friendly. Premier spirits are available but you need to specify the brand when asking for your drink. We would definitely stay again.
We loved every minute!

Top notch from start to finish. Service was excellent! We had a water view room and the accommodations were always clean and spotless. The entertainment was nice and we also loved the variety of food options available. Will return!
Beautiful resort with plenty of areas for improvement

Context Couple in 30s travelling from UK with TUI in March 2024 for 7 nights. Have travelled to similar resorts all over the world. Headline A beautiful resort with incredible location, that’s let down by its customer service, food/beverage and entertainment offering if you’re under 50. Good * The resort’s location, nestled in a bay and building into the cliffs affords a beautiful backdrop and many photo opps. Sitting right by the ocean with a drink or snack was about as idyllic as it gets. * The building style, planting, maintenance, and cleanliness were all excellent. With only 150 rooms it never felt crowded, there was always somewhere to sit and service was generally prompt. * The room was good - a nice size, very clean, good bathroom. Be aware that the terrace/balcony for the “Beachfront Ocean Suite” is very small with only a table and two chairs without footrests. Bad * This isn’t reflected in the score, but be aware it is a 2 hour transfer from Montego Bay airport, and overall it took 4 hours from landing to the resort. * The check-in process could be better - it’s very DIY with minimal help or guidance given. I would expect better orientation, but set the tone for service here which is “don’t ask, don’t get”. * Service was “mixed” at best, ranging from unresponsive and mute, to somewhat helpful and bright. We noticed that the older staff were better in this respect. This was the case everywhere we went: every bar, restaurant, and cafe. I only had my glass proactively refilled once, at Casanova. To be clear, I’m not talking about “laid back” (which I was expecting) but the sense of being an in conscience to the staff for basic requests. * The resort is clearly geared to Americans, which is reflected in the service style, food and entertainment offerings. That’s no bad thing, but is culturally different from Europeans, and at the cost of the resort feeling Jamaican. * The food was poor, with the breakfast being best and evening meals being the worst. Simply, I felt the ingredients and range were poor with too many illogical offerings (two pasta dishes - why?). There is a tuna nicoise wrap that was not available despite asking every day. The room service hamburger was one of the worst I’ve ever had. Some items such as the snapper sandwich and prawn pizza were pretty good. * The drinks were average, using a QR code instead of physical menu. There was only one beer (Red Stripe) available, and the sparkling wine (not Champagne) similar to a GBP7 supermarket offering. * There are two gala nights per week, when most/all other bars and restaurants are closed. This is too many for a resort this size. * This one is taste-dependent, but the entertainment is highly focused on older visitors with cruise-ship type cabaret acts. These are good performers but I’ve heard the same 1970s songs 3 or 4 times. * This isn’t reflected in the score, but our choice of room - “Beachfront Suite” on the second floor of B block was not ideal for us. Although the view is beautiful, the entertainment and galas are right outside. On these nights, you have no choice but to listen to the music as loud as if you are outside because the doors and windows do not seal. If I were going again, I would choose Block E overlooking the bay and up in the cliffs. * I understand that the resort is small, but there isn’t enough to do - or places to be - before 5.00pm. Only the beach and pool bar are open, and the coffee shop is empty and without character. A good inside/outside lounge would be perfect - the Balloon Bar would be ideal for this. Likes * Room has an effective steam iron and ironing board. * Room has an effective mini-fridge. * Wi-fi speeds were pretty good and accessible even on the beach. * We received an insulated lunch pack for our drive to the airport. * The bartender at the Couples airport lounge was great, and probably the best service from anyone during our trip. * Refillable water bottles and water machines - nice reduction in single-use plastics. * Room air conditioning very effective. * The water sports team and boat guys were great. * The mini-bar customisation was good, and generally was fulfilled every day. * No upsell from staff or vendors, a simple “no” was sufficient. * We read many reviews talking about the many steps. Yes, there are steps but they are not tough unless you are infirm in some way. * Check out the pool at the back of A block - there’s some interesting wildlife including so many turtles that will swim up to you, a parrot, and interesting birds. It’s great that they have this space for guests. * There are plenty of US power sockets in the room, and a bedside alarm with USB A and C outlets (it doesn’t play music from your device). * The Martini Bar, on a small rock outcropping is beautiful and probably the best drinks on the resort, but is sadly only open a few hours in the evening. Make sure to try it. Gripes * No separate hair conditioner in the bathroom. * Room TV did not work with my Roku streaming stick. * No mojitos at the beach bar in Jamaica - really?! * No snacks or sweets or non-coffee beverages readily available. * No beach towels - they are the same as your bathroom towels. * The TV signal was very bad, basically unwatchable. * The mainly Americans in the pool bar with their Stanley Cups were not a patch on Mexico but just be aware that they are here, and they are playing Marco Polo loudly at times. * One day, our room block and nearby toilets lost all water for several hours. I notified the maintenance team but didn’t have any response directly, via any staff, or in a notice board. I understand that these things happen, but better communication is needed at a “5 star resort” when you can’t use the toilet or wash your hands.

Resort was very well organized. Very friendly staff, first time on an an Au Natural Beach but the experience was great ended up there all 5 days. Lots of stairs at resort had an awesome time. Staff was always on point to help but you probably wont have to ask.

Fabulous resort with the most lovely local staff , they are what makes this place very special. I echo the sentiments of the other reviewers , they can't do enough for you , memorable stay, beautiful food, beautiful, apartment, swim up pool , mineral pool, water sports and thanks to Michael for the Hobie Cat lesson , what a great experience with a jumping Marlin and Stingray to boot ! Lots of steps as built on a hill and would not suit everyone . Super professional entertainment every night , Dunn's River Waterfall climb a must do excursion as is the bamboo river raft trip on White River which are both not far away . Jamaica is a beautiful relaxed and welcoming country , Yeah Mon , One Love to all the staff , thank you and will be back !
