This was the third and last Fairmont in our Canadian vacation (See Montreal and Tremblant reviews), and definitely the finest. The hotel is grand in every way. The physical plant is incredibly well maintained and the service is excellent. Every person, from the valet, to the porter, to check in, was wonderful. We arrived a night early and were checked into three different rooms (5 people), so we got a taste of 3 different sides of the hotel. Our room was one of the newly renovated rooms. The decor was very nice but the room was very tight and the bathroom tighter. Lots of ambiant light from the clock and bathroom too. Our son's room was one of the "older" rooms that overlooked the St. Lawrence. It was much larger with a large bathroom. It was really lovely. I think that was the "upgraded room" that we let him have because our other children were closer to the room first described. Anyway, it was a beautiful room. The third room was super cute. It was in one of the dormered areas of the hotel so the windows had these cut-outs and it looked like a really sweet attic bedroom. Room service was lovely - probably the most lovely plate of fruit I've seen in a long time. We had breakfast included so we ate downstairs at the main restaurant. The buffet was lovely - great variety and delicious. We had dinner upstairs the night before. It was expensive, but very nice. Again, everyone we came across was lovely and interested in where we were from and what our plans were for our stay. We ended up changing plans based on our servers recommendations to go to the waterfall outside of town and Isle de Orleans. It was a great recommendation. When our regular reservation kicked in, we moved up to the 15th floor. Evidently, we had reserved Fairmont Gold which is Club Level. We had the gorgeous 2 bd connecting suite. The rooms were large and comfortable. Again, though, like all Fairmonts, very dimly lit and small bathrooms. Anyway - lovely decor and room to spread out. The Club was odd in that you were charged for alcohol. And not just charged for premium, but all alcohol. I've never been in a club where there hasn't at least been house wine or beer offered without a charge. Considering the price, I'm not sure why it wasn't included. Overall, this hotel was really lovely and worth the extra money as compared to the other hotels in town and nearby.

So we didn't go inside this hotel, but we walked around the outside for pictures. The building is beautiful, and a must-see. We walked around, and the hotel is very close to the Citadelle, the shops, and the funicular. Beautiful brick and tower structure, with gorgeous windows.

This hotel is fabulous we were there originally for lunch meeting our Canadian family, but, after my husband was admitted to hospital I booked in and stayed there until he was recovered. Firstly majestic in presence at the top of the hill, this grand dame of all hotels which overlooks the great St Lawrence river, Quebec Old City, the Hotel’s opulent majesty blows you away.the decor, the service and the food is superb, whatever you have here in this bustling busy hotel is first class. The room we had was a corner room, with en suite, a good bar and tv cabinet, room safe and coffee and tea making facilities. Room service is superb, I had Canadian Lobster Roll, just beautiful and they provide amongst a grand selection of wines and champagnes, great local wines which both of us stuck to. We had dinner bed and breakfast. This hotel which amongst other things, a dramatic meeting in WW2 played out here with Winston Churchill and the French Prime ministers and Canadian prime minister, for the retaking of France from the Nazis. Film stars and glitterati, Royalty and all nationalities stay here. Great art and a beautifully appointed walkway of shops highlight the variety and grandeur of this hotel. Go for coffee, lunch, or dinner in itself is a great occasion made very special by all the staff. Many thanks to the excellent reception team and the concierge department who helped us though a potentially traumatic experience. Do go and stay or eat here, this hotel group we are now fans of and I will be reviewing the Queen Elizabeth Hotel Montreal soon. Finally the hotel retired guide dog I will feature first. Such a great thought and homage to carer and Guide dogs who do so much good and the people who nurture and train them.

We decided to splurge to stay at this iconic and grand hotel and could not have been more disappointed. We probably should have shopped around for a better price on the room, but when you pay top dollar, as we did, we expected a five-star experience which we did not get. We were excited initially that they gave us a room on the 18th (top) floor...and even though we had to take 2 elevators to get there, it felt special and exclusive. Unfortunately, however, we discovered after crawling into bed that night there was a low grade humming sound coming through the vent in the bathroom that was loud enough to keep us up all night. In the morning, we discovered the coffee machine did not work. After battling our way through a tourist-packed lobby, the staff was kind enough to give us a new room on the 7th floor. This must have been the old part of the hotel, as I noticed paint peeling in the hallways on the way to the room - a real surprise for a Fairmont property. This room did not have the noise issue of the other room, but it was as dark as a cave at 10am (one window that was deeply inset), had no view and no robes or slippers in the closet (although the coffee machine did work). We dropped our bags and went out for the day only to discover our keys did not work when we arrived back (they forgot to activate the room). Each visit to the lobby entailed dealing with the added stress of lines and hoards of guests and tourists. Many of the basic amenities of other 5 star (and even 4 star) hotels are not offered: no turn down service, no bottled water included, no newspaper, On the plus side, the hotel is in a great location and the staff was exceedingly nice, especially the manager who allowed us to change rooms and accommodated us with a late checkout...as were the staff members who found the cell phone we left in the room and delivered it to lost and found. The breakfast buffet was excellent and it is absolutely a magnificent and historic place worth visiting and photographing. However, there are a plethora of hotel options in town that cost a fraction of the price. There is simply no justifiable reason to spend it here. We’ve stayed at other Fairmont hotels throughout the world and have simply never had a bad experience, but our visit to the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac was beyond disappointing. Do yourself a favor a stop by for a visit, but stay elsewhere.

Traditional spring hotels group, elegance and higher class, location is excellent, outside view is remarkable. Front desk service is very good, inside room is only average side. We booked with travel agent , rate is a lot better. No free wifi except in the lobby area.
