Amazing vacation during these challenging times

Just got back from an amazing vacation during these tough pandemic times. Stayed at this resort in the first half of December, and as promised by my friends who traveled to Cuba a month earlier, the protocol (that’s what they call in Cuba the sanitary rules during the Covid) was put in place. Upon arriving at the airport, we all passed a Covid test and our temperature was taken. While still wearing the mask, we were taken to the hotel by bus which is only 15 minutes from the airport. At the hotel our temperature was taken once again. The use of hand sanitizer was required everywhere. According to aforementioned protocol, in order to protect the already present tourists and personnel, we had to wear the mask in public places for two days until the results of the test were in. After that, wearing the mask was at our discretion. It was required when entering a liquor and tobacco stores, though. During my stay, two families tested positive were taken to a nearby hotel Sol Cayo Coco, which was converted into a hospital for tourists tested or suspected to be positive. The resort is large, but very clean and well taken care of. I had a quiet room with an ocean view. And the view was beautiful. The room was cleaned on a daily basis. There were some water pressure issues in the shower during rush hour as I stayed on the last floor, but I managed it by taking showers so that to avoid that hour. The food was good with plenty of choice of meat like beef, chicken, pork, fish, and sometimes some different seafood. They kind of lacked raw vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers, but in compensation for that, they had those amazing salads and pickled red cabbage and carrots. There was a large choice of fruits like bananas, oranges, pineapples, carambola (aka starfruit), frutabomba (aka papaya). We had absolutely tasty ripe papaya almost every day. The dessert was surprisingly tasty as I was rather used to those “shake and bake” types. The cakes melted in my mouth as they were made with real eggs and milk. The beach is as you would expect it to be in Cuba, it’s amazing. Wish there were more places in the shade, though. As their number is limited, they become crowded during rush hour. Even though I’m not a kind of a pool guy (as one of my friends once said: “You’re not flying to Cuba to shower in a bathtub!”), the pool is big, cleaned on a regular basis, and with plenty of palapas. There is even a small quiet pool. And now, there is the life and the soul of the party – animacion (aka “the entertainment team”). These guys are amazing at sparking the flame to the party. We had a show on the stage almost every night, whether it was a dance party, a fashion presentation, or a bartending lesson for beginners. While being some great dancers, singers, and very good animators, they would entertain people during the day with dance lessons and different ball games. I even caught the 24th Anniversary of the resort on my last day, which ended with a traditional Cuban party and a beautiful show late night. As one of the reviewers well said, there is a magical feel to that place. And that’s the staff with its hospitality, kindness and warmth who makes it feel magic. Umberto (aka Steve), I miss your dance and your sexy body moves. Keep doing what you do the best! You’re the best dancer out there! Mayara, Maylan, Naymi, Yainielys, Deisy, I miss your morning “cafe con leche” and your “mi amor y mi vida”! Yosvany, Osmani, Yeikel, Ariel, Julio, Michel, Uberlandis, I miss your “ron oscuro” and your “Salud, Senor!” in the evening! Ladys, “La pura elegancia”, I miss you. Miss your “Ca va bien?” in the morning, your kindness, and your beautiful smiling eyes! Guys, I miss you all! Wish I could go back “yesterday”. Cheers, Julian
Very safe and relaxing visit, nice catamaran snorkelling and beach snorkelling.

Beach area was littered and only a few garbage cans were often full to overflowing. Would be good to have a foot bath/shower entering hotel grounds to remove sand and salt. Very nice shaded areas on the beach. Excellent health practices (masks, disinfectant etc. but tourists could have been monitored to ensure masks were worn.) Nice catamaran snorkelling and beach snorkelling. Scuba diving only fair.

First of all, travelling into pandemic situation was a bit different from previous trips, but all the country of Cuba is trying to make our experience safe. As a regular, I've been welcomed warmly even if all the staff have to wear the mask at all time. Beach is stunning, the food experience was better than what I was remembering. All the staff works together to provide us an incredible experience. Thanks for another PERFECT week!

Having the pleasure of being a guest of the hotel, the week of 7-14 December, I’ll take a minute to put down my thoughts... -Don’t be afraid to travel, the hotel itself is beautiful and extremely clean. The staff and management paid an enormous amount of attention to Covid-19 protocols. -The service is excellent from the moment you arrived and greeted warmly by the reception staff, a big thank you to Harold Flores for his attention problem solving ability. - The food was very good under careful supervision of chef Alexander Echevarria and the service prompt and always with a smile, thank youYoleidy Duarte. -The room was well maintained, refreshed and cleaned daily by professional Delvys and Yamileydys. -The lobby bar was attended by amazing bartenders, gracias Naimy and Mayara for your specialty coffees and mornings mimosas. My thanks to Kenia Martin from the tabaco shop and all the rest of staff for such a service, well trained, hardworking and professional, you are inspiration to me. -Personally I think a very important role in everyday activity of the hotel, has to go to the director Noreida De Armas, for her supervision in all the departments. -Side note: the Cuban people rely on tourism and the COVID-19 shutdown has been especially difficult, show your appreciation by form of small gifts and tips, if possible. -Gracias to the whole team at the Tryp Cayo Coco hotel, I had wonderful vacation and an unforgettable week. See you soon!
