Went for the Disney brand, was very disappointed. Not worth the price.

We visited Aulani last week and were very disappointed. The resort is still very restricted and not offering most of its amenities and activities. Kids club, the spa, restaurants, in-room dining, all activities, all character experiences...everything. Essentially, all the things you’d want when traveling to a Disney resort. This wasn’t disclosed to us in detail before we arrived, and it’s buried on the website. Our issue is that the rate we paid did not reflect the reduced amenities and experience. For the price, we should have stayed next door at the Four Seasons or at a 5-star resort on Waikiki beach. COVID restrictions aside, the food was mediocre, the rooms are dated and uncomfortable, and the conceirge was completely unhelpful with securing excursions, dinner reservations, and a car rental. We tried calling weeks in advance to get help, and nobody ever answered the phone or returned our messages. There was no way to book online either. Getting chairs at the pool and beach was nearly impossible - people were saving them before the sun was even up! They don’t enforce the “no saving chairs before 8am“ rule. Super frustrating since the pool and beach were the only amenities available. overall, there are much better places to stay on Oahu. If you’re committed to Disney for the kids, then stay one or two nights and check that box. Then go to better places on the island. We won’t be returning, even once restrictions are lifted. We went for the brand, and we were very disappointed.

We stayed at Aulani two times. The first visit was prior to the pandemic and it was extremely crowded, to the point that there were too many people for our stay to be truly enjoyable. This past December, the Aulani was amazing, there weren’t too many guests that it felt comfortable and inviting. The hotel took their guests’ health to heart, and we felt safe. The rooms and hotel is typical Disney, where they put so much care in each and every detail of design. The pools are GREAT with something fun for all ages. The beach is beautiful and weather perfect. The food is expensive of course, but it was quite good for “hotel food”, up to par for Disney. The only negative was that our daughter lost her stuffed animal in the spacing behind the sofa couch, and I had to call twice to have someone take me seriously. The second operator was so kind and personally took the time to help me, they found it while I was on hold, and sent it via fedex. In all honesty, the only time I’d stay at the Aulani is during low season when the resort isn’t as crowded. Otherwise, it’s such a beautiful and fun Disney hotel for the whole family.

My husband and our two sons 11mo and 2.5 years old stayed to celebrate our 11mo turning 1. Our first time staying at the resort. Overall we had a great time and the resort is beautiful. Most of the staff was nice, especially Jimbo who made our days swimming in the pool with some adult drinks ;) great pools and beach for young kids and water slides. We ate at each restaurant food was good, especially at the 3 course meal restaurant. Only disappointment was they didn’t seem to cater to their guests. It was set up their way and that was it. The concierge was not helpful, and we had someone come to our room to empty trash at 1p everyday when our children nap and woke them up. We had the sign on the door handle occupied and when she knocked and no one answered she came right in. We called and asked if we could skip this service they said no it’s their policy everyday. Not only did we not enjoy them waking up our children’s naps but also with covid we didn’t feel it’s okay they come in when we requested not to. Also not very many activities at night for entertainment, even with covid we thought they might have something. Other than that nice family resort, very expensive but it’s Disney and Hawaii so expected.

We took a family trip to Hawaii the last week of March, spending our first 5 nights at Aulani before heading to the Hilton Waikiki village for the last 4 days. We loved our time at Aulani, especially compared to the Waikiki Village. Aulani felt clean and safe, and we could relax and let our kids run around the huge pool area with no worries. The only reason we didn’t give a 5 was for the lack of dinner options. Understand that everywhere is figuring out reopening protocol in a COVID world, but It seemed strange that a few of the restaurants were closed given that the ones that were open were always pretty busy. Also seemed odd that the nicest looking beachfront restaurant (AMA AMA) was closed, given that it was so open with the outdoors. Other than dinner options (Went to neighboring hotels and the shopping center across the street for most dinners), everything else was excellent. Would definitely go back.

My family has stayed at many Disney resorts and I must say this was the most disappointing. They were not easy to work with on COVID and there fitness room and showering facilities were closed throughout our entire visit. We tried to at least get a yoga mat and weights but they wouldn’t allow it. We never received an email stating that these services wouldn’t be provided. Also the room we stayed in had almost no lights in it and if it was dark out you needed all of the lights on to see. They didn’t clean our room once while we were there. We had to call for towels or soaps every day. They were only supposed to be at 80% capacity but yet when we requested a late checkout since our plane flew out later in the day they refused and said they were full. It was very disappointing and would definitely look at a more expensive option than return here.
