Our fourth trip to this resort, is starting to feel like home. The staff is the best, always a friendly greeting, ready to please. Special shout-out to Lisbeth, Roy and Donovan at the buffet, Tatiana at reception. Enrique, the bar-restaurant manager, always wants to know can he help us in any way. The whole bunch is happy and hardworking. We try to treat them right and show respect, they give it back and then some!! We always enjoy the dramatic setting of the resort, which overlooks the bay, and the beach with it's volcanic sand that is very fine. We have enjoyed the various tours of the area, but especially enjoy the fishing set up by Roberto on the beach. The resort is not perfect, but the minor problems we've encountered are not worth mentioning. We plan on returning every year if possible.

First time to Costa Rica - this resort was fantastic- I booked the deluxe Bay View room and was not disappointed. The view from my room and patio was phenomenal. The food was delicious and different things were added each service so always something new! Staff are super friendly and service great! I will be back to this resort!

The team at the resort were always ready to help in anyway with a smile. We had no issues with our room or any of the amenities. The beach was awesome, we were lucky enough to have low tide most of our stay and we enjoyed daily morning and sunset walks. All of our excursions were within 1 1/2 hours from the resort which made it perfect for day trips. While there are a lot of stairs to get pretty much anywhere on the resort, there are shuttles that are a phone call away if needed or preferred. I will definitely be back, this was my first visit to Costa Rica, I would definitely recommend. Thanks for the memories, pura vida??????

Views from some of the rooms, including ours, were spectacular. Service is subpar. No ATM but the receptionists can break larger US bills into singles when they feel like it. No food available from 8pm until 7am and 3pm to 6:30pm which makes if very difficult for those of us on meds that need to taken with food or are diabetic. As soon as we checked in, we called about the safe which never worked and nobody came, so we realized we cannot rely on management. Our toilet ran the entire time, half the shower door was missing and there were shards of glass in the rugs next to the bed. The coffee in the room was not refilled half the time and there is nowhere to get coffee until the restaurants open. When we packed up to leave, we discovered that our shoes had been marinating in a puddle of urine in the closet. Maps of the resort do not show paths so it is hard to figure out how to get places.

Stayed at the Occidental Papagayo for two weeks. Overall staff are really good The resort is dated and needs repairs Had to change rooms after a few days because of the lack of air conditioning Food is okay but need to change it up Buffet is mediocre had a couple days of strong winds power went out numerous times throughout the day. No hot water on day 10 room key didn’t work one day because they checked us out by accident Any tours booked thru the resort are very expensive gift shop on the resort is really expensive $50 for a bottle of sunscreen overall it was average and we probably won’t be back
