Amazing Hotel
Juana C (California) on Mar 28, 2024
This is our second time staying at this hotel and we will always go back it has not been a disappointment. If you go to Mazatlan you go to listen to the live bands because that is part of the culture and customs in Mazatlan. So be ready to hear them playing by the beach all day (Mainly why we chose this hotel). Mazatlan is a place to have a good fun time with the bands so be ready for some noise. The Hotel is in an amazing location, you are just a couple blocks from the MAZATLAN Letters and downtown. We walked a lot because most places we wanted to go eat or check out were close. The staff is super friendly very accommodating and very always checking up on you in case you need something. All the restaurants are amazing, the shows are fantastic, I have seen all of them and my kids love them all. (Just remember to make your reservation). The food is great, buffet always has something for everyone, just make sure to explore your options. To my taste, the mixed drinks could be a bit stronger, but they are still good. The rooms are spacious we have always got a beach view room because we enjoy the sunsets and the loud music from the beach. (If you don't, please choose something like a garden or pool view). The hotel has 5 pools, and they are super spread-out, so they never feel crowded. The hotel is big so even though there might be a lot of people it doesn't feel crowded other than during breakfast. I also noticed that most of if not all the staff speak decent English and I think that is pretty amazing they really make everyone feel welcome, even during the shows they speak in English to encourage the whole audience to participate. We also always choose this hotel for its handicap accessibility. I have a physical disability and mobility is an issue for me but here I can into the pools, restaurants, and bar all by myself. There are even some handicap-reserved tables close up to the beach and a ramp that takes you straight into the sand. The only thing I have a recommendation for is probably the bathrooms and them being handicap accessible. (but this is a problem all across Mexico not just at the hotel) Overall, this Hotel is my favorite and my kids love it! We had an amazing 7-day stay, with no issues or problems. :)
Never Again .....

We are not terribly picky when it comes to vacations, and we have been in many vacation resorts around Mexico over the years, but how Playa Mazatlan received a 4+ star rating has my head spinning. There are LOUD bands that play all frigging day long along the beach .... and they seem to love to play over one another .... horrible. 98% of clientele was families from Mexico - loud and rude. Only nice pool was overrun with kids and their rude parents. The smaller pool (nice one shown in the pictures) doesn't offer any type of seating. Booze selection for all-inclusive was bottom of the barrel (thank goodness for stores on the little road outside the resort where you could by a Modelo for cheap). Buffet was disgusting - lightly warm food at best and the same stuff ALL THE TIME .... no toaster in the morning, bread rolls were always stale, service was nothing to write home about, people behind the counters could not speak English, no cappuccino machine (except in the evening up behind the pool - but that was broken for the 9/10 days we were there). Rooms are old and dated and the pillows are terrible. Pro - was always able to have a hot shower after running the hot water for a bit. There was literally one area on the entire resort that was 'relatively' quiet, and that was over on one remote side that had a kids area, hot tub and cold pool, which was dirty all the time because of the tree droppings. At least you could read your book though, because once noon hit and those frigging non-stop loud bands started up (complete with trombone, trumpets, clarinets, bass drum and TUBA), there was no quiet place. There isn't really anything good I can put in this review other than hot water for showers. Very disappointing holiday - even had me looking for our last 3 nights elsewhere!!
