Convenient accommodations for runDisney weekend

I’ve wanted to try one of the hotels right across from the Disneyland entrance for a while and was particularly intrigued by Camelot (I’ll admit, the medieval facade grabbed my attention). Once I saw the start/finish line location for the recent runDisney races, it really solidified my decision to stay here. The property feels old in its charm but not necessarily dated; I found this nicely complemented the mid-century vibe Disneyland has always exuded. Overall, Camelot is a cute property and the convenience can’t be beat. I was surprised by how big the room was - there was plenty of space to spread out. The room was well-cleaned and appeared to have been renovated in the past few years. The dresser under the TV, complete with a mini-fridge and microwave, was an impressive size and offered plenty of storage space. The bathroom (mainly the toilet/tub area) was a bit basic and on the smaller size though perfectly functional. I didn’t travel with a family, but I could definitely see little kids liking the castle mural on the wall in the room. The only area where the room kind of felt like it was lacking was the quality of amenities - the sheets were a bit scratchy and the mattress wasn’t very plush (bulged every time you rolled). Though these things aren’t a big deal, they’re worth considering if a good night’s rest is a priority. Truly the biggest selling factor for Camelot is its location. It took no time to walk to the parks, which was great given the chaotic nature of the weekend. I left the holiday shop at the top of Main Street at 9:21pm and was back on my floor for fireworks by 9:30. I loved being able to watch the fireworks from my room; seeing Matterhorn and the Monorail during the day also added a little bit of magic. For runDisney races, the entrance for the 10K and half marathon was right in-between Camelot and Tropicana… how can you beat that convenience? Though the runDis race weekend in general was a hot mess, staying at Camelot made the logistics of getting to the race in the morning one less thing I had to worry about. The McDonalds next door was a good option to have for a quick meal and it was surprisingly one of the nicer / cleaner McDs I’ve ever been to! Camelot is more so a place to stay than the destination itself (the lobby and common areas are pretty limited). The front desk staff was okay; the parking attendants were usually pleasant and made a point to say hello. I had a minor inconvenience during my stay - one day after a runDis race, I received a call on my cell saying a nearby room was having an issue and maintenance wanted to check out my room. Maintenance came to my room and hung in the bathroom for 20-30 mins, running the tub without saying a word to me. While it wasn’t the end of the world, it could’ve been handled with a bit more of an apology for the disruption (especially when you want to nap after a race!). Because of its large rooms and unbeatable location, I would keep Camelot in mind for future trips to Disneyland.
Worth It!

The Camelot was perfect for our family vacation to Disney. It’s across the street from the parks and a 7 minute walk. We had a double Queen room with a sleeper chair and it was perfect for our family of 4. We used the pool 3/5 nights that we stayed. The sauna (hot tub) is small, but we were the only people in the pool area in the evening during that time, so it was no issue. There are extra towels available at the pool as well. You can watch the Disneyland fireworks from the pool area or the 3/4/5 levels. They are loud if you’re trying to sleep but that’s the cost of being so close. I’m sure you can see the fireworks fine from 1/2 as well, just can’t vouch for it. It was great having the microwave and fridge. The staff was friendly and helpful. The pillows are short but they do give you extras. The mattress was a bit soft, if that’s an issue for you. It’s close to some restaurants (we went to McD’s, Coldstone, Bubba Gumps and the Pizza Press). We were grateful for quiet neighbours, though we could see were it could get loud if you had non respectful people coming back late from the parks. Overall, we would definitely stay again!
