Beautiful property but rooms could use a remodel

We stayed in one of the sun deck casita rooms and it was nice and spacious but could really use some updating. The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. We ate at the restaurant and it was very good especially the guacamole! 4 of us got massages and we all enjoyed them very much. The spa was very nice. The restaurant at the spa was good as well. We had breakfast there one morning. The hotel location is close to everything and very centrally located.

We stayed at this resort for the 2nd time, as we loved our first visit so much. Our room was not ready when we checked in at 4:30, but Meredith at the front desk took care of us and made it right! As our room was not ready until after 6pm, we had to cancel our dining reservation at a Scottsdale restaurant. Meredith was very understanding of our displeasure, and went above and beyond to make our stay special. We loved the beautiful room with an amazing view of Camelback mountain, and the food and drinks at the resort are wonderful as well, especially in the setting of the outdoor patio area. We will definitely return on our next visit to Scottsdale.

We wanted a quiet, relaxing, non-traditional (for us) Christmas someplace warmer than the east coast. Since we did the Caribbean the year before, we decided on something different. I've stayed at JW Marriotts before and knew we could not go wrong with Camelback. My family was extremely happy with the choice. Even the least expensive rooms are extremely nice. The hotel was decorated festively and they had daily holiday events planned for those who wanted to participate. The weather was surprisingly warm enough to relax by the pool for most of our stay. Food: Lincoln, Rita's Kitchen, Sprouts and Hoppin' Jack's were all delicious. We were originally planning on either renting a car or taxi/uber to places to ear off property, but we decided there wasn't a need. We were only there four days though, so had it been longer or a more traditional trip this would have been different. They had over the top holiday menus and buffets - making it extra special for those who weren't home to celebrate. Spa: This was great. If you book a service you have free access to the outdoor pool, saunas, steam baths and whirlpools for the whole day. You can buy spa access for the day without a treatment and Sprouts is open for anyone. Spa burrito, blue corn pancakes and strawberry salad with prawns were awesome. I thought the treatment prices were spot on for a high end spa (in comparison to where I live anyway). Service: Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Which of course you would expect at a JW Marriott, but having to work over the holidays you would think staff would be tired and frazzled (and rightly so with how busy the resort was!). If they were, they didn't show it! Kudos to the employees and management. The sunsets out front were phenomenal. Smart to put a patio off of Bar 1936's for guests to enjoy it. The resort also had fire pit gatherings with s'mores. Lovely touches to make the guests' stay a little more special. I would definitely recommend this resort and if I go back to Scottsdale I would stay again!

I grew up in Arizona and always enjoy going home. We took a 2-bedroom pool suite for 5 nights in March. The weather was iffy, but having a private heated pool is the ultimate luxury. The grounds at the Camelback Inn are exceptional. Many plants and cacti were blooming during our visit. It is a wonderful way to see Arizona in a luxurious setting. The unit is spacious (probably 2000 square feet) and three sliding doors with screens allow you to feel the spring breezes. The pool furniture is good quality with seating for 8. Both bedrooms and three bathrooms were appealing and well appointed. However, the down-stuffed couch in the living room spewed feathers on our clothes and on the floor. We had a full kitchen with satisfactory full-size refrigerator and oven/stovetop, but both were older than yours at home. The dishwasher was unusable as the hotel does not supply even a single Cascade detergent tab. No dishes, glassware, or silverware are stocked in the unit---they are available upon request, according to a small sign on the oven. At the price point for the room (approaching $2000), they are expected. If the Marriott is striving for a "luxury resort experience," they should compare this room to the home-style suites at some Kimpton (Vero Beach) and Hyatt (Siesta Key) properties. For those of you still interested, I called the hotel before arrival and inquired about the equipment in the kitchen because I was hosting dinner for 10 around my pool. The Front Desk indicated that the kitchen in the pool suites can vary with some having only college-size refrigerators and 2-burner cooktops (without an oven). Nobody could confirm the amenities in the unit prior to my arrival because rooms are not assigned until the day of arrival.

Recently experienced a wonderful stay at the JW Camelback. This property does everything right. Check in was efficient and professional. The room made us feel as if we were semi-isolated. I go for the running and nearby hiking which are wonderful-especially for flatlanders from Indiana looking for a challenge. Restaurants are top notch and delicious-especially the morning breakfast. The grounds are beautiful. One wonderful aspect is that the resort isn’t overrun with guests tending their dogs which isn’t the case at several other high end Scottsdale resorts. We’re not anti-dog but at this price point we’re not interested in sharing our space with pets.
