I am a lifetime Marriott member. I have stayed at this property a couple of times. I really enjoy the villas and how the property Iis spread out. The Villa’s are updated and often provide you with more space and comfort compared to a traditional hotel. The staff takes great pride and is very friendly. While this trip was on business, I really enjoyed relaxing after a long day at work.

I really do not know the allure of resorts. Being pigeonholed into one place, just ugh. In the middle of the desert. In the middle of nowhere. Thankfully they have carts to take us around, but the idea of this being so spread out is just too much. I liked our rooms. They looked like little Pueblos so very cute. They offer cases of water apparently. Then on site restaurants are pretty good, but the weekend brunch buffet was amazing. Uber’s are about $15 to get into town. But I’m just not a fan of resorts and spas. So I won’t be back.

My 18 year old daughter and I planned a quick weekend visit to Scottsdale before she heads off to start college. I chose the JW Marriott because we are Platinum members for Bonvoy/Marriott and the pricing was reasonable and the location near Camelback desirable. We ran into a slight hiccup at check-in with arriving early and though I had specified we would be early, a room was not actually available until almost 4 though we arrived before 3. I was a little disappointed since we had been traveling on planes for most of the day and we were very eager to freshen up. The front desk staff was friendly and did what they could to help but it essentially was an issue with housekeeping not having cleaned the room so there was little they could do. The resort is still in the process of renovating the rooms and there is definitely an overall impact on the aesthetic of the resort but they seem to be doing their best to keep the mess out of the main areas. Our room was one of the more recently renovated and I was extremely impressed with the overall cleanliness, comfort and design. We had a double Queen on the 2nd floor and the size of the room and patio was more than adequate and in it was everything you could ask for with regards to room amenities. We had the continental breakfast each morning at Ritas and the food was extremely fresh and the staff were amazing. The grounds at this hotel are extremely well designed and cared for. My daughter and I loved all of the Jackrabbits and Humming Birds we saw each time we walked the grounds. She loves posting photos to her social media accounts and there were no shortage of backgrounds for her to do so, especially at sunset. We enjoyed a visit to the Spa one morning and again the staff was amazing and absolutely made us feel special. It was my daughters first Spa visit and the bar has been set very high for her expectiations for future spa visits. Overall we were extremely impressed with this property. The only negative I could see was, based upon the location of our room, the easiest way to exit the property was behind the convention center and it is a bit of an eyesore as that is where they store everything and it is certainly not indicative of the rest of the property. We will definitely return to the JW Marriott Camelback Inn on our next trip to Scottsdale.

This was our second visit to the Camelback and it didn’t disappoint. Check in was quick and service was excellent. Our room was large, renovated and the air conditioning worked perfectly. Bedding was soft, and although the pillows were a bit flimsy, we slept really well. We loved the Spa and enjoyed the restaurant, Sprouts. A perfect way to unwind. The hotel pool is very large and we especially loved the adult pool which was pretty quiet. We felt that the resort fees are pretty high; however, the fees provide access to the spa gym, which is well equipped for those who like to work out during the hottest time of the afternoon.

Great resort, Surprisingly good happy hour

I stayed at the JW Camelback Inn and Spa this past week and far as resort hotels good its very good. I was given an upgrade (platinum status) to a Casita with over a 1,000 sq ft patio with 3 distinct seating and dining areas and views of mountains all around. It was very nice. The room was clearly recently redone and has great finishes, great size, felt local, and was in a very good location between the pool and the restaurants. That is important as this property is about 25 acres and an old style inn, meaning you park in front of your room and the building are not all connected. As for the pool it is the off season, so it was not crowded and the bar service was very reasonably priced, $7-8 for a beer a little more for cocktails. The servers were around often and it made for a very comfortable day. There are 4 pools, a very small pool by the cabanas, a children’s pool (which has great views of Camelback Mountain), an adults only pool that was very nice on a Sunday with lots of families, and a large main pool. All had ample seating and lots of umbrellas for shade which was important in 110 degrees. The R Bar and Rita’s Restaurant were both very good and had surprisingly cheap happy hour. Both are classy but comfortable enough to wear flip flops. I did not try the spa though I assume it is very nice and has a gym attached. I hope so anyway because the main gym for the resort is a starting to show some age. Its fine but is small for the size of the resort and the machines are certainly not new. It was fine for a Marriot in 2009 but now compared to most resorts and many hotels is not what I am looking for on the road. Don’t miss Mummy Mountain at the top of the hill. Its event space the resort uses. Its set up like an old time Mining Town and is a neat to walk through. Its like an old movie set and I am sure kids would have a great time checking it out. Overall the location is great, the staff is engaging and attentive, and I would certainly go back.
