Nice for the price point

I’ll be as fair as possible with this review. The good: The staff were friendly and polite at all areas. Bars, restaurants, front desk, even gardeners and maintenance The property outside is beautiful. The garden areas and lagoon area is very nice to walk around. The pool is huge with enough space for multiple people to be playing catch or another game without taking over the entire pool. Lots of chairs to be found at all times of day The housekeeping was prompt and good Rooms were clean and in good order, although old furniture The shower pressure was amazing We got the room we paid for and the view was fantastic The upper floors were quiet Nice activities during the day like archery and Rifle shooting The not great: Evening activities were one option that was done by 10pm and sometimes the show repeated. Relatively low budget productions, but the staff gave a great effort Day passes are sold so there are a lot of locals and in general the melia brand does attract more local guests. This made some language barrier issues and crowd issues during the day The beach seating is limited and there was pretty rough water (no ones fault you can’t control the sea) The reasons I wouldn’t return The food and drink is really the low point of this resort. I didn’t have a “great” meal once. The a la carte options are so limited at just two restaurants and the times shown on the app don’t match when they are actually open. The food was overdone so badly and seemed to be reused for multiple meals. The drinks had no variety and were just all a bit off. There isno fun drink of the day or even a menu of tropical drinks you could order. The selection of alcohol was limited even for premium. Overall for the price point this resort is ok, I would try something else next time

It’s alright, Enrique was great! Hotel not so much.

trinat82024 on Apr 19, 2024

Hotel is geared towards locals, the pool is slimy, food doesn’t really change day to day (very little seafood). Beaches aren’t as clean as other resorts and there is not a night life here. The spa is ok but you can hear everything from the pool area. They are tearing this place down and rebuilding it so the care of it is lacking. Ponds aren’t cleaned and they smell terrible due to lack of water movement. It’s significantly went down hill since our last visit a few years ago- sadly cause we’ve stayed here several times. For the cost.. I don’t think we will stay here again.

Needs improvements

Tour37222231360 (Alberta, Canada) on Apr 18, 2024

Melia is not a 4 star resort. If you don't like children this is not the resort for you. The whole resort is outdated. the food is not great. The rooms are older and the shower water came out brown. Breakfast and lunch at the buffet was good. Some nights for dinner the buffet was okay some days it was not good. Although Juan is a very nice and good waiter at the buffet. We went to Mole tacos twice, the first night we went after we could not eat dinner at the buffet because it was not good. The food at mole tacos was good but after our meal they pressured us to write a good review, the one staff member stood over my boyfriend and told him what names to include and what to write in the review. The second night we went to mole tacos there was children screaming, crying and running around the restaurant, the service and the food was not as good the first night we went . The fish house had okay service and mediocre food. I think that the snack bar by the pool was our favourite “restaurant”. The pool was good just very full of children who are not afraid to splash you. The drinks at both the pool bars were strong, the bartenders were good, and the pool waiters were great. I have travelled to quite a few all inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta and I have never felt the need to write a poor review until this one. Overall we made the best of our trip but the Melia is not what is it made out to be online. It needs a lot of improvements.

Stay Elsewhere, but do come to Puerto Vallarta!

Preston A (Arden Hills, Minnesota) on Apr 18, 2024

Overall, all things considered, our time in Puerto Vallarta was amazing. We had fun as a family, and made the most of it, but it was in spite of the Melia, not because of it. We tried to do our due diligence, but really missed the now glaring red flags about this place. The facilities are well taken care of, but generally just felt worn out and tired. We stayed in a Junior Ocean Suite, which included their "Premium Food and Drink" services. The room itself was spacious (the main reason we booked it), but it did not have a second bed for our 2 daughters. We had a twin bed brought up, but it smelled terribly like dried pee. So we asked for another one, and that too smelled like Pee. Our daughters ended up sleeping on the couch and lounge chair. Thankfully they were small enough so the didn't mind. The lock on the door was broken, and the deadbolt lock was too sticky for my wife to operate by herself. Our main complaint about the room was the water running through the ceiling vent onto the floor. Easy enough to clean up, but the vent was full of mold as a result, and everytime it turned on the room smelled like mold. So, we cracked the deck doors until we realized this let in lizards which would crawl on the walls. Fun! We also discovered a dead cockroach in one of the closets 3 days in. The food. It's a cheaper all-inclusive so we had low expectations, but these were still far too high. The quality of food is just very subpar. No flavor, even on the things that were made in front of you that you knew were fresh. While they advertise having 4 restaurants, you can only dine at 2 of these with reservations, and reservations require a reservation card, and you are only given a card for half the nights you're there. So, half the nights you're left eating at the buffet, which is even worse than the restaurants. Disappointing. We had great Breakfasts at the Mole and Taco restaurant (which we only had access to because of our "Premium food and drink" privileges) Hard working and true professionals who remembered our orders and greeted us with a smile. Service everywhere else was atrocious. It felt like we were an inconvenience to them, or that they resented having to do work. We were not prepared for that. They really did not like assisting us non-spanish speakers. Thankfully the Marina is close so you can escape! The bars were terrible. Way too sweet drinks, long lines, and crabby bar tenders. The resort offers day-passes too, so you can expect MANY locals.

Amazing Family Vacation

lorne and debra p on Apr 16, 2024

Had a wonderful time at this beautiful resort. After reading reviews people saying that food was terrible it shocked me, the food very good lots of different food choices The staff worked very hard and always had a smile. Check in was fast and staff were friendly The rooms were clean and comfortable the maid always cleaned our room and stocked fridge. The pool was very nice and lots of room always found a chair no problem. The resort is older and needs some repairs but I seen the workers doing repairs . The only thing was not much for entertainment in lobby bar would be nice to have singers come in. This resort is on a good location walking distance to Marina. We definitely will be back next year. Thank you Melia for making our trip a very memorable experience
