Gorgeous beach, beautiful ocean. Impressive premium resort. Moderm room. Friendly staff. Good restaurants. Many choices. Impeccable grounds. Highly recommend this hotel. Would not hesitate booking again next winter. Would recommend ocean view and or pool view on the premium side if you like added choices of restaurants, and quiet pools.

A rare and excellent vacation for two experienced, (and demanding) senior travelers.

My wife and I are both professionals and highly experienced senior travellors. This was a first time visit to Punta Cana and we were concerned, but decided to ignore many negative reviews. How right we were to do so. The Impressive Resort and Spa (which we understood is under new ownership), far exceeded our expectations, from our arrival to our departure. Our room was in a quiet building with a great ocean view. Room service staff were excellent. Five restaurants on the premises, including, French, Japanese, Seafood, Grill and really good buffets were were similarly staffed by helpful and considerate staff. Food was equal to most mid to high end dining rooms and food, like pizza and cocktails, beer and wine was always available at a swim-up poor bar location and several others just off one of the most impressive clean, swimmable beaches we have visited. I feel sorry for those hard to please visitors whose expectations were not met. Sometimes you get back what you give out.

My friend and I arrived on Feb 15th. We had booked a garden view room. We simply inquired about upgrading to a pool view room. What a mistake and wow a disaster. Little did we know how we would regret this later! We were helped by Victor who proceeded to explain to us that for the price difference we would be better off upgrading to premium. We hesitated, as we were happy with what we had chosen but simply wanted a pool view. We asked if we could see the premium area FIRST he advised us pay first and if you dont like come back here to refund. WELL THAT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. As seasoned travelers we TRUSTED the hotel front desk staff. NOT THE CASE HERE BEWARE. We visited and less than 10 minutes later went back to Victor and asked to be kept at the main resort as we preferred it there. HE REFUSED to refund us and send us back to premium. Where EZEKIEL returned us again to main front desk. This happened Twice as they now were passing the buck. What transpired next what we've seen as the worst run around scam job EVER. We attempted to resolve issue by simply trying to cancel the upgrade and refund 200$ not 2000$. We were shuttled to different rooms (one smelled of smoke, other only one bed, one occupied to finally settle back to our original garden view room and having paid an upgrade that we never used!!!! We were asked by ANA concierge to make a written complaint to have it on file she would then forward our request to ARIEL manager for processing of our refund. He took a copy of the credit card to process and advised it would be done during our stay.. Once again we trusted this time the MANAGER. 2 days later we went back to verify and it seems that the photocopy he took of our payment card was unclear and numbers weren't clearly visible !! yet nobody advised us!!! A second copy was done with a promise that it would be processed by the end of our stay but that due to processing it may take a few days and that we'd receive an email. THIS NEVER HAPPENED we've been back over a month! and well obviously now that we're home they got away with doing NOTHING!!! With the exception of JESUS who clearly attempted to help us with a room selection and get someone to address our issue. THE FRONT DESK staff are scammers, liars, and are master manipulators. Throughout the week we spoke to other guests that have been duped into buying this upgrade. Some who also like us paid it and never got it. We also were advised that staff get points and credits for their own employee rewards to offer these hence the reason of the aggressive sales pitch!!! If I could give a -10 review of them I would. DO NOT AGREE TO ANY UPGRADE! We would however like to review that the hotel facilities, hotel staff (other than front desk) and beach were lovely and that this review does not reflect the truly good people working at impressive.

Avoid - there are much better hotels in Punta Cana

I stayed in this hotel with my husband and 4 other family member, it was supposed to be a celebration of my 60th birthday and we were all looking forward to a wonderful time. My family member have all stayed in Punta Cana (but not at this hotel) before and had excited us with their experience. I have a few positives, which I will start with: Hotel Grounds - absolutely beautiful, well maintained and very clean. Hotel Rooms - we were not in Premium but our rooms were very nice. Cleaned every day, shower good, beds comfy. we had to request our fridges to be refilled a number of times and coffee supplies, but on the whole very nice. Beach and facilities - beautiful, plenty of sunbeds, see weed was cleared daily and they worked very hard to maintain. Beach bar very good, although probably not enough staff to tend to so many guests, but they worked very hard. Now for the Negatives - and I really hope you hear my concerns: Food - absolutely awful, food was mostly cold (not a fault of the staff but a fault with management not listening to guests complaints) There was good variety of food but what a waste when you cannot enjoy it as it is cold! At weekends it was unbearable as the hotel is inundated with locals staying at the hotel and there are so many of them that the restaurants are overwhelmed - there are not enough tables . I have nothing against the locals but there were so many that it just overpowered the hotel and made it very uncomfortable with so many people. Also, sorry to say the manners of some of the locals left a lot to be desired i.e. letting their children poke their fingers in the buffet foods to try them and I saw some children pick up food and then replace back into the server (ugh). Drinks.....oh my goodness, all the drinks in the main bar were served to us in plastic cups, even cocktails - certainly not something I have ever had in any hotels I have stayed in! I can see why they use plastic glasses at the beach or by the pool but not in the main bar where we spent most evenings. We did complain and a couple of times we were served in proper glasses but alas it did not last. Staff - most staff were very nice, especially the cleaning staff, gardeners and some waiters, but the bar staff were very rude and made us feel very alienated and not welcome - before anyone comments that perhaps if we were not complaining all the time they would have been different, but unfortunately this was right from the start of our holiday, our smiles were wiped off our faces from the start. Management - are not really interested in what we had to say, they wanted us to upgrade to premium but we had paid our budget for this holiday and we thought what we saw and read in the brochure was what we would get, but sadly no. My family who were with me had stayed in Punta Cana before, but not at this hotel and were so very disappointed with the Impressive Hotel & Spa and very sad for my husband and I as they had recommended the Dominican Republic to us for this special birthday. I have been reading the reviews on here since I returned, and I cannot believe the good reviews really, but am not surprised at the not so good reviews as we indeed lived through what they say. I would not recommend this hotel so please avoid and find another hotel for your holiday.

    Almost a 3-star resort

We booked our trip through the Air Transat website and I've checked the reviews here at Trip Advisor before. However, despite most of the comments, this resort is far from being 'impressive' and here are the reasons: We checked in at the main reception of the resort and ended up upgrading to the Premium level, which was well worth it because of the ocean view suite only. It also includes free wi-Fi everywhere and access to the hydrotherapy. At the spa, you will have access from 11 am to 2 pm: three hot tubs with different jets and temperatures, a sauna and a steam room. As premium guests, we should have been told which were the options and times for restaurants and if they required reservations in advance or not. We were not told anything in details and the bad customer service started there. Service is definitely not a high point for this resort, on the contrary. The staff was not friendly and we suffered from a lack of information. No empathy or care was shown during the entire time we were at the Resort. Most of all employees speak some English but I noticed they never make an effort to try to communicate efficiently. Staff seemed to be always overwhelmed and bartenders, for example, were dealing with long lines at all times and they were not very happy, of course. During the meals, more than once my plate was almost removed while I was still working on my food. One night, at the premium lounge, after waiting for so long (over 15 minutes) for someone to set up the table for us, I had to get up and go myself to the kitchen to ask for cutlery, napkins, etc. It was a complete mess inside, and one of the servers was so rude to me, addressing my request with a "just sit and wait!". Definitely not a 4-star resort. We were able to eat at different restaurants every night but the food was just ok. Again, not impressive at all. Cups and glasses like wine glasses, even at the restaurants are all acrylic. At the beach, all disposable cups. We totally forgot to bring our own to avoid that many plastic waists. At the Impressive Resort and Spa, you’re gonna toast and say 'Cheers' on an acrylic glass most of the time, even if you're 'premium guest'. There is no consistency - we went to the same restaurant 2x and the first time we had a glass of wine and the second time it was the only acrylic ones. Very disappointing, and the staff was not there to make you feel comfortable. It was all about only serve fast for you to leave faster. During the 7 days we were there was not even one moment that we could say the staff made a minimum effort to show they care. One of the restaurants which were supposed to be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, was closed for no reason and no explanation. Dinner at the Italian restaurant was the best one considering the options. Other than breakfast, lunch and dinner, you will only get a snack bar close to the beach that serves pizza (4 options max), hot dogs and nachos. The other option is the cafeteria but it is at the main entrance of the resort. They do have options for coffee, dessert, donuts and some mini sandwiches. Thumbs up for the room service with no extra charge for the Premium Guests. We could get a good burger to eat at the beach instead of having pizza, nachos or hotdog. Everything in the room was clean, in good working conditions and the shower was really nice. It's not easy to take a quick shower close to the pools. There are not many showers and some available were just clogged up for the whole week we were there - like if they were abandoned or the drainage was simply not working. Also at the pool area, you will find those white-collar people trying to convince you to into their program/timeshare. So if you agree to participate be prepared for a 4-hour sales pitch in exchange for some cheap prize. The beach is beautiful, the water is clean and you be delighted by so many shades of blue. However, you will find unleashed dogs and vendors at the beach. You will also find vendors at night, inside the resort, in front of the main buffet when you go for dinner and don't be surprised if they call you out aloud to go and check their products. Last but not least.. if you don’t like smoking it’s not a place for you. People smoke everywhere and they don't care how close others are to them, cause there's not such a thing as a smoking area.
