Overall a beautiful resort with a lot of things to do!

We were there for a wedding and originally booked with Kantenah! Due to low occupancy, we were moved to the romance villas in colonial. We were very disappointed in the size of the room as well as the location and our view! We wanted to have a ocean view but would’ve been happy with a pool view but instead had a garden view! Our porch light didn’t work so going in and out at night was done so with caution as we didn’t know what type of critters we may have had on our porch! The room smelled like mildew which I’m sure was due to not having been open! You would think with guests arriving, that they would’ve sprayed for insects and had the room smelling a bit fresher. We struggled getting our air conditioner to work right and the tv channels was very minimal! Overall, we liked the resort and entertainment and if we go back it will be with a jr suite as those rooms were quite a bit bigger and also have 3 story buildings so an ocean view would be very possible!

Do not go here!! The customer service is horrible and everything is old and used up!! The room we stayed in had blood bandages taped to the wall that we called daily to have cleaned and no one cleaned it. Please save your family a headache and do not go here!! Also you will always wait for everything food transportation.

    3-Star posing as a 5-Star

My wife and I booked a 3 night stay at this resort as part of an 11-day trip in the Yucatan. I will start by saying this we have been to several AI’s over the years so we have a good basis of comparison. This resort is simply too large to really enjoy. There are technically 3 eco-resorts on this property, but more on that later. We checked in and had to deal with the obligatory upgrade pitch after check-in. They were particularly sly and we fell for making an appointment for the next morning. They preyed on us at our weakest point and we fell for it. We did cancel the next morning and had to deal with those consequences. When we checked in, we were “upgraded” to a different resort that was “closer to the beach”. The room was clean and comfortable but had a strong mildew odor. This is not unusual in Mexico but it was stronger than most places we have stayed in. When opened the balcony door, we realized “closer to the beach” also meant backed up to the mangrove area because it smelled of decaying vegetation. So, the room was a mix of good and bad. Here are our impressions of the food. Due to limited capacity, they were only opening 2 restaurants a night. During our stay we ate at the Brazilian style, the steakhouse, and the Thai place. When we found out we were eating Brazilian, we were excited. It turned out to be barely average. The meats were overcooked and over seasoned, it was a nice dining experience but the quality of food left us wanting. The second night we ate at the steakhouse. We both ordered the filet mignon and were both disappointed. I’m fairly sure they were trying to pass off average sirloin cut as a filet mignon, and not a great cut at that. We both had potatoes for a side and they were cold and the steak lukewarm when it came out. Strike two. The last night, we ate the Thai and this was by far the best meal we had. It was well prepared, well presented, and quick service. We ate lunch at the beach restaurant twice. Our advice is don’t eat there. Our expectations were low and they didn’t meat them. Breakfast was the most consistently good meal of the day. Overall impression of the grounds and condition of the resort was that it needed a lot of repair and renovation work. At one time, this was a very high-end resort but there were missing tiles around the pool and you could tell they were missing for while. There were rust stains on pillars, broken and loose boards, everything just seemed run down. Two bridges to and from the pool area were closed for work which added a 7-8 minute walk. And did I mention this place was huge? From our room to the restaurants, it was a 10-15 minute walk. Thank goodness they had trolleys to pick you up and drop you off. We found this out after getting lost for 45 minutes trying to find lunch the first day. There are parts of this resort that are absolutely beautiful. The huge walkways through the waterways are wonderful. But the rooms were nothing spectacular and didn’t have elevators. Full disclosure, this was a last minute trip and the weather was awful so we spent more time cooped up in our room than at the beach or pool. Parts of the resort were impressive. But it was the little things that kept coming back. This was not my type of resort. It is a mega-resort and takes forever to get from point A to point B. I don’t want to walk a half mile to eat a mediocre meal. Hopefully they will clean the place up and get it sparkling again in the near future, I just won’t be coming back to find out.

This hotel has coy fish that are dragging themselves along the ground the water is not deep enough.. there bodies are also sticking out of the water.. I have never seen such cruelty.. make the water deeper for the fish.. stop making them suffer.. Also they have a captured crocodile.. tourists don’t need to see an animal captured animal for entertainment.. so sad

Amazing for allergies (and every one else too!)

I have multiple food allergies (dairy, eggs, sesame, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, and flax seed) and I can say without any hesitation that this has been one of the most amazing vacations with my dietary restrictions. I would go as far as comparing it to Disney-level of service for dietary restrictions. Every meal, I was greeted by a manager at the restaurant, who confirmed my allergies and then explained to the chef what my restrictions were. I was then either given options (as-is or modified) or offered separate food from the menu. My one tip is to learn your allergies in Spanish (especially if it is not as common - I had to explain what sesame and flaxseeds were a few times. Also, look for VIRIDIANA - she’s one of the managers in the restaurants and is literally THE BEST. We were stuck in the room one night because of a hurricane, and she came over during lunch at the buffet, asked if we were given food for the night in the room and if it was safe. When I said we didn’t receive it yet so I’m unsure, she had the kitchen grill me a whole plate of veggies and skirt steaks and chicken. Anyone with allergies knows the significance of something like this. My fiancé’s food (no allergies) was also awesome every night! Also, So many great employees. David, Daniel, and Fransisco at xtra time bar (you may see them bartending at other locations as well) were all THE ABSOLUTE BEST. They went above and beyond every night to make us feel special. Antonio and Lucia at our pool/lobby bar were also awesome. Lucia and Daniel were also really great at helping us practice our Spanish and teaching us new words. The host Abigail was also a really great, smiling face to see every day. Truly amazing trip!
