Yet another great Mexican experience during our recent stay, this time at Iberostar Quetzal Playacar. Exceptionally friendly staff, amazing service with clean beach, jungle style resort feeling! Beautiful midsize family resort over all, short walking distance within resort wherever you go! Particularly is important to mention, amazing food assortment and tastes, all prepared and decorated by Chef Alexis Castillo, and Chef Alejandro, the only two chefs I have ever met interacting with guests and asking their opinions. Definitely worth coming back!

Our 8th visit since 2009. Love the quetzal/tucan. Worth getting up early to watch the sunrise on the beach. Pro’s - Plenty of sunbeds and food and service as excellent as ever. The staff work incredibly hard and very friendly. The seaweed was no issue on this visit, seems much better atm. Check in was fast. New pool towels. New soap/shampoo dispensers in bathroom/shower. There was a few things we noticed which could be improved on. We noticed the music in main buffet in morn a bit too loud. Pool is beautiful and very clean but starting to look a bit dated around the edges. We found the stairwells not lit as well as previous visits, quite dark for walking down stairs. There also seems a bit of an issue with the kids club at lunch in main buffet, the kids are left to get their food on their own, unsupervised, three or four occasions we found ourselves assisting the children to put food on their plates as they couldnt reach, surely this could be organised better. We missed Sam and Rosie in the lobby bar, a big loss. The young bar staff we found do not look at you or talk to you when serving drinks and theres no camaraderie or atmosphere in the lobby bars anymore which is shame. Overall this hotel is still our favourite hotel and we will definitely be visiting again, the location is superb, the wildlife and grounds are stunning and the quality of food and drink is excellent.

After not being given a jungle view room as requested, we were moved from a lovely spacious room with king bed overlooking reception area to a jungle facing room with two queen beds, equally as nice with a waterfall and monkeys outside. The rooms were well equipped and bed very comfortable. Air conditioning worked well with added bonus of ceiling fan over bed. The beach and pools were fabulous. First time I have ever spent full two weeks on the beach instead of pool. No problem getting sunbed in the shade. The sea was gorgeous, only a little seaweed occasionally. Decent cocktails brought to your sunbed by the wonderful hard working staff. Lots of activities including zumba and salsa lessons, fresh paella etc cooked and served on the beach . The food was the best I have ever had. I am pescatarian and had lots of fish and vegetarian choices in the buffet , Mediterranean and Italian restaurants. The steakhouse had salmon which was delicious but no vegetarian choice. The bonsai was delicious with show cooking ( no vegetarian choice) We didn't try the tex mex as it was mainly meat options and the buffet restaurant had good choice of mexican cuisine. The chef in buffet restaurant said he would attempt to provide anything that was not already available but I couldn't think of anything as it was so good. The service was excellent with the jolly little Ramon who looked after us , constantly topping us up with water, wine, coffee etc. The sports bar was good fun after 11pm depending on clientelle, most nights guests enjoyed the music, dancing , great cocktails with some branded drinks. The jungle was amazing, monkeys, peacocks, peahen with her babies, iguanas etc All the staff worked so hard and appreciated tips for their excellent service. Bit disappointed our maid didnt attempt any of the towel art others received despite frequent tips. The star friends entertainment was very good. We watched some of the shows which were good, vert talented , acrobats, dancers, singers and entertainers. They worked very hard day and night as did all the staff. Very impressive. The hotel is within walking distance to playa del carmen , about 40 minutes walk along the beach or palm tree lined secure walkway. Theres also small shopping mall with couple bars 10 min walk in playacar. Hotel shop extremely expensive. $49 for a hat ?? The trips also expensive but that's probably due to our weak pound . The only thing I would replace is the plastic furniture on the balcony as it spoils the mexican design. We will definitely go back to Mexico and hopefully the Iberostar quetzel/Tucan.

Let's ber clear I go to Mexico every year even someones twice. This is the first and last time I will go to this hotel. Here is my comments and this might not differ to some people but I would put my money some other hotel in playacar 1. The ACs in All the rooms (we changed 3 rooms) don't cool enough. The temperature in rooms were 25. I had a hard time sleeping!!!! I wasted 2 days moving rooms and getting annoyed. 2. The food wasnt good for me. All the vegetables were over cooked a lot!!! As well they are not vegan friendly. I couldn't find non diary milk And most of time they had no vege hot dishes. I couldn't even get a vegetable fajita cause they had meat ask the time. Sorry but get with the times and offer a variety for meat and non meaty eaters. 3. Pillows were soooooooo uncomfortable. It's like they had bulks of stuff in there. Again had a hard time sleeping. Other than that the property is nice and staff are really nice. But that doesn't compensate the fact I had a bad sleeping and food.

My husband and I are on our last night at this fantastic hotel and we can’t leave without saying how truly lovely this hotel is, yes the rooms are a little basic but once you step outside the door, walk the jungle paths and see the wonderful array of wildlife roaming freely you can’t help but be impressed. Every day bought a new surprise or a new view to be admired. The hotel staff are what make this hotel amazing, everyone without fail has smiled and said hello, they all work so hard. Special praise for Rodrigo and Alejandro from the entertainment team for keeping us laughing and Nelly round the pool for providing us with our drinks and teaching me Spanish along the way too. The food is varied and tasty and the restaurants are definitely worth a visit. Download the Iberostar app for easy access to restaurant bookings in. Instead of waiting at guest services. Finally the hotel puts on entertainment every night, special mention to lex and the harpist in the lobby bar and then there is a big show in the theatre at 21:30, shows vary from Beatles to 1970s boogie nights to magic shows. Well worth a watch. Thanks again for a fab holiday
