A unique historic site with great views and gardens plus 2 nice pools and really nice gardens.A beautiful main hall and dining room on main level. Bars with great views and live music in the evening. Staff was great, professional and friendly. Be ready for old rooms but they are really well kept, with AC so it adds to the spirit of the hotel. My only mini complain would be that so many visitors come to the hotel sightseeing that it is hard for guests to find a spot in the bars. Maybe have an area for guests?

We stayed here for one night at the end of a 17 day tour of Cuba which was an amazing trip. The Hotel Nacional is an icon in Havana and while the rooms are tired and a little fusty the atmosphere is buzzy and it holds a good position overlooking the sea front in the more commercial area of Havana. Interesting to see and visit in contrast to old Havana. While there we had drinks on the veranda/garden area which is very popular and a nice place to have a drink. Unfortunately, we felt that 20 CUCs (about £16) for two drinks was over the top, even for this place, particularly as we were not given a printed bill. It sort of left a bad taste after the wonderful hospitality and service we had received from everywhere else in Cuba.

If you are in Havana then the Hotel National is a must visit even if it is just to sit and smoke cigars on the veranda. So many famous people have been through it’s doors but it is still very accessible and drinks are cheap. They offer tours each day so you can get a better idea of the history of the place.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of March. Check in was a slow process and after a long flight we weren’t impressed that we had to queue for so long. There seemed to be only 1 person checking everyone in. Our initial room was a standard room with a view of the pool area. It was small and a little shabby/dated, with a small double bed. Luckily the next day we requested an upgrade and we were given a much larger room, with large bed, with a great view overlooking the malecon. We were much more comfortable in this room, so I’d highly recommend going for an upgraded room with sea view. The hotel itself is steeped in history - they have done a great job preserving the look of the hotel from when it was first built in the 1950’s. We took the hotel tour on one of the days (10am daily, except Sundays I think) and it’s definitely worth doing and also allows you to see views from the top of the hotel and visit the Cuban missile crisis museum. Breakfast was good and included quite a lot of choice. Even my wife who is vegetarian was satisfied with the options. We didn’t eat dinner in any of the restaurants but had lunch on one of the days at the pool bar. It was reasonably priced and decent food. You are able to change currency at the hotel and are given a single Wi-fi code/password to use on one device at a time. We asked for another and they obliged. The Wi-fi was quick but as we were moved to the 7th floor the signal got a bit worse. If you get the opportunity you should sit at the terrace at night and have a mojito. It’s a nice atmosphere and they have live music. We spent a lot of time in Old Havana and unfortunately this is around a 10 minute taxi ride from the hotel so we did rack up a fair bill on taxis. There are a queue of taxis on the road outside the hotel. You can negotiate with the taxi drivers and you shouldn’t pay anymore than 10 cucs to get to the old town. There is a decent restaurant called California cafe near the hotel where you can get a few vegetarian options. Overall a great stay in this hotel and wouldn’t hesitate to come back again. Staff in the main were friendly and accommodating.

We spent a week at the Nacional. Our rooms were comfortable in a 30's way. Good bed, good housekeeping, good bathroom. Safe, TV. The 6th floor breakfast room is nice. Very good coffee! The pool area is cool. Our daughter made good use of the fitness center. The biggest attracton for us was the huge garden with superb views. If there is one thing that is not so nice it is the crowds of tour groups that are brought to the hotel and mill about in the reception area and the garden. The hotel is a historical landmark but for hotel guests this makes for restelessness. Unavoidable, I suppose. The food at the downstairs cafe is pretty awful, sorry. As were the nearly pornographic music videos on the TV screen. They are really really awful and not suitable for a hotel of this category. I felt extremely awkward having to try to eat with that disgusting rubbish unfoding before my eyes. Who likes that sort of thing? You cannot print your boarding card. Also, the complementary wifi crashes every few minutes and you have to reconnect. Sometimes it doesn't. Later it does. = unreliable. But it's there, basically. Having said all this I complement the hotel and wish them all the best and I would say our stay was very pleasant. We would go back. By the way, I find the questions about Hotel Style and Amenities very strange. You would think it is a sanatorium or hospital, which it is not. Most of the guests seem to be able bodied, able to see, hear and move about by themselves. TripAdvisor, fix this. It is not helpful.
