A vacation that actually felt like a vacation!
Erika A on Mar 24, 2024
My husband and I have been to Cozumel a couple of times before many years ago, but wanted our 3 teenagers to experience the beauty of the place and its people. We recognize that traveling is a privilege - and with that privilege comes the responsibility to respect and preserve the culture as visitors. We are not “resort” people - but we do love to travel. We chose the Melia because the reviews felt true to the character of Cozumel, and we were not disappointed. From the airport, ignore the people in white shirts trying to "help" you (they are selling time shares), and ignore the van service ($35 per person) - just walk out the front doors of the airport and walk to the right toward town. In about a block just after the roundabout, you will find a taxi station. They quoted us $40 USD for all 5 of us for the 8 min drive to the hotel, but only 600 if we paid in pesos ($35ish). At the hotel, check-in was easy. The staff was lovely. They certainly helped us whenever we had a question - but they also treated us as friends, and took the time to chat with us. They had the grace to allow us to try out our broken Spanish in conversation with them - but would also flip over to English easily when needed. Next, the beach is beyond incredible. White sand and clear blue warm water framed by gorgeous palm trees. I couldn’t take my eyes off it! The pictures just don't do it justice. Despite the fact that we were there during Spring Break, it never felt crowded, and we always easily found a cluster of chairs or hammocks to enjoy the incredible view from under a palapa. From the pictures, I did not realize how swimmable the water is in front of the hotel, but we were able to snorkel and see a variety of fish, rays, crabs and barracudas out near the buoys. Sometimes, we would walk next-door tot he left with our snorkel gear for even clearer water and a lot more fish, but would always return to the Melia for the beachfront, and of course, the amazing sunset every night. (Note: there was a VERY different vibe at the resort next door - way more crowded and the beach was not nearly as expansive.) The food was really well done with plenty of variety. We especially loved the local options - and there was always something AMAZING at the grill - (Shrimp! Fajitas! Omelette bar in the morning!). The chicken quesadillas at the Elyxr Cafe were so good. We also loved the great juice selections (Coconut strawberry! Watermelon! Green juice!) and the desserts. The servers were so friendly in the main La Isla restaurant. Just find a table, they will offer you drinks, then you just walk around and fill up your plates. During the day, our kids took advantage of the kayaking and the gelato on-demand at the cafe. My husband and I took advantage of the espresso bar and the pina coladas - in the coconut, of course! The shows were fun - and we especially liked the Mexican and the water shows. Our whole family took part in the morning stretching session with Julio, which was so fun. We really enjoyed getting to know him! Overall, this was a vacation that actually felt like a vacation - we didn’t have to worry about anything. A heartfelt thanks to all of the incredible staff for this beautiful experience. Our whole family agreed that we will go back to the Melia Cozumel!
Wonderful all inclusive Day Pass from Resort-For-A-Day

Beautiful resort, all you need in a day pass while on a cruise stop in Cozumel. We stopped at Cozumel on an NCL cruise. It was an easy $10 taxi ride for all 4 of us from Puerto Langosta. The grounds were lovely, clean and well maintained. There were ample chaises and beach beds by the spotless family pool. There is a separate adults only pool and a wonderful soft sand beach with gentle waves. There was an aqua aerobics class and April gave a fun salsa and merengue lesson. Buffet breakfast was good and plentiful, alcoholic drinks also included. Other activities, such as jet skis, were available at added cost. You only pay a small deposit to reserve and the balance when you arrive. Remember to bring your credit card with you!
