The condo is large and spacious with high ceilings, lots of sun light and amazing views. Right on the rugged rocky waterfront with great views from some of the units and the main pool. There were 5 of us that stayed here and there was lots of room for everyone. I guess it depends on the condo unit you get-we booked through Air B & B so we actually got to see the unit ahead of time. The grounds are very well kept, great pools with views of the ocean and the overall feel of the property is good-very quiet and private. The only issues really are the lack of info at check in-no mention of the A/C-asking if you want it or mentioning how to use it and also no mid week cleaning service, restocking of toilet paper, dish soap or removal of garbage etc. The location however was great as you are 5 minutes away from one of the best snorkel areas and 3 minutes from a supermarket and shops. We would definitely stay here again.

    Too many minuses

The good stuff first: ocean view units, Keauhou area, and the 2 bd/2 ba unit is very large. Ocean view pool is nice. We talked with maintenance, security and receptionist staff who were all pleasant and approachable. Our unit had excellent WiFi and nice televisions with great cable channel options. Minuses: given a map that highlighted area on where to park but it was incorrect) extra air conditioning fee (read other reviews) some seem to offer it as extra fee, but we were not even offered the option; light maintenance needed in unit (broken blinds in master bedroom which don’t close so morning sunlight will wake you); ants (we live in Hawai’i so we’re used to pests) were abundant because I don’t think they have a good pest control maintenance; kitchen knives need sharpening; floors need serious cleaning and mopping, not just a broom; and slow check-in service. I watched another guest complain about the extra effort to get a/c and the additional fee for a/c. Based on reviews and staff response to this guest, this is an ongoing customer service issue that management seems to ignore. Given the many places we can stay in Kona, there is no reason to ever want to return to this property or any operated by Castle. This is the second Castle property we have stayed at in Kona. First experience was worse, but this confirms that I will avoid Castle properties from now on.

My visits to Hawai’i are always enjoyable but my stay with friends at Kanaloa is a complete rejuvenation of the spirit. The oceanfront view from their lanai is beyond description for beauty and tranquility. The property is well appointed with 3 pools. The quiet solitude of the adult pool is refreshing. Give it a go!

    Dead Cockroach ...

It is a big confusing how this whole place is set up but I think it is actually called "Kanaloa at Kona by Outrigger®". I think Outrigger owns some of the condos whereas others are owned by individuals? Very confusing ... but anyway ... The first time we tried to contact anyone who could help us we were passed from one person to another ... showing that the entire setup is convoluted. The simple question we had was whether we could get the oceanfront condo we had booked "with loft" instead to give us an additional room (shown as “2 Bedroom Oceanfront with Loft” on their web site). This was a very frustrating inquiry with them not even finding out reservation initially. People did not return phone calls and it was almost impossible to speak to the same person again ... So after giving up on that at first we tried one more time the day before our arrival and were told no "with loft" is available but the condo is ready for early check-in. The check-in process actually requires you to go to another property about two miles away (Royal Sea Cliff Kona by Outrigger) to pick up a key code. You then also have to check in with the on-site property office to get a keycard for the entrance gate. Yes … again … very convoluted ... I guess the early check-in was helpful but the condo was not ready ... there was a dead cockroach on the floor of one of the bathrooms. The very moment this was discovered a cleaning crew showed up and was very confused why we were already there when they were supposed to do a quick checkout of the place before we arrived (where they likely would have discovered the dead cockroach). So I must say the management and associated dealing was absolutely terrible ... but ... the cleaning crew tried and the place itself is really nice with a beautiful view of Heeia Bay. I did the check-out over the phone as I could not deal with stopping at their management office again ... and I almost forgot to mention the mandatory $250 departure cleaning cost. This was known before but still seems excessive … I just hope they were able to catch every trapped cockroach before the next arrival …

Oceanfront condo with private lanai. Yes it's dated with maintenance underway, but was a well equipped one bedroom with washer/dryer, secure property and centrally located just south of central Kailua. Staff were delightful!! Claravelle at the front desk and the security fellow were very helpful. Not Pinterest perfect, but not spending much time here anyways. We appreciated the quiet, the view and the friendly staff.
