We traveled from April 14-21, 2019 to Dreams Las Mareas. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and we had a mountain view with plenty of Monkeys visiting daily. The resort itself is very luscious and clean with an abundance of wildlife. We didn’t use the pools however their was always chairs available. The beach is amazing. The water is beautiful and clear and you can snorkel right in front of the resort. If you are adventurous during low tide you can walk for miles to the right with amazing rock formations. The food was delicious. We enjoyed every al a carte. The seafood at the oceanna was our favourite. We were lucky enough to catch a Tuna and the chef did an amazing job cooking for us. We had sashimi, ceviche, lightly battered and pan fried. Outstanding. The staff were overall amazing. Extremely friendly and the service was great. A special thank you to Paola from the Rendezvous bar. We forgot our camera on the table on our first night and when we came back the next day she had put it aside for us. I am extremely thankful. The only few thing we didn’t like was checkin. We travel often and it was a little slow with needless paper work. On a side note if you need to see the doctor at the resort you will pay anywhere from $120-150 USD. The paramedics are free however. The resort is isolated and if you want to do tours expect to spend most of the day traveling. We did a sunset sail at the resort which was amazing. We did a separate review. The resort has kayaks, bikes, snorkel gear to available. Overall we had an amazing week at Dreams Las Mareas. Great weather, people, food, drinks, and service. We highly recommend this resort.

Absolutely beautiful resort. Food was just okay. Service was horrible. We arrived on a Friday and requested to upgrade to a swim out room. Unfortunately there weren’t any available that day, which we totally understood, so we stayed in the original room that we booked until the next day when swim out rooms became available. Swim out rooms are an upgrade to premium which is supposed to include high end alcohol in the room as well as a premium lounge, that was nice, and the swim out pool. The refrigerator in our room was shy of drinks. We called twice to get it filled, which we were told someone would be there shortly, no one ever showed up. I spoke to the person who delivered room service in the morning, he also said he’d take care of it. Once again, that didn’t happen. Called mid afternoon again, no one showed up. After all those attempts, I decided to make a visit to the front desk in person. After complaining and speaking to a manager, Russell, he finally sent someone to fill up the refrigerator as it was supposed to be. I requested one days’ upgrade cost back, and it was denied. It is definitely not worth it to upgrade at Dreams Las Mareas in Costa Rica. Most employees barely speak English. Twice we ordered food at two different restaurants and we did not get what we asked for due to language barrier. We did run into three employees who spoke English well and were very nice. Best employee for us during our stay was Sheile from entertainment. She was amazing. We ran into her every day. Her smile, friendliness, and energy was outstanding. We loved her. Again, beautiful resort, but I don’t recommend upgrading to premium, not worth it. Also, if customer service and quality of food is important to you, then you might want to try a different resort. If I do go back to Costa Rica, I will try a different resort myself.

The grounds are like a botanical garden. Nice pools. Monkeys, raccoons, rabbits and numerous bird species. Rooms are nice with awkward separation of bathroom facilities from sleep area. Service was very good, though a bit understaffed. Gift shop and spa are woefully overpriced. Very very remote, which is good and bad, depending on your aggenda.

The property is gorgeous, the grounds are beautiful and very well maintained, as well as all the swimming pools. The restaurants are fabulous, we had outstanding experiences every time except for the one Saturday night when tons of new people came and it was full. We had a new waiter who forgot our food and got it wrong when he did bring it. Other than that the food and drinks were exceptional.

Spring Break visit. Room in Building 1A, preferred club (more on that later.) Two story building, our room was on the second floor with a direct view through some trees of the ocean (could hear the ocean even with the slider closed--very nice!) As stated in many other reviews, the bathroom set up is odd, with only a single curtain acting as a partial divider, leaving still one side of the bath area wide open. A single can of Pringles and a bag of peanut M&Ms rounded out the food offered. Fridge well-stocked with beer, sodas and juice. Restocking was spotty, even after calling to request it. Our building was without water for 8 hours one day and 4 the next. Nothing was offered to us to make it up, which to me is rather inexcusable (how about a spa voucher?). The location of the room was, to me, the only benefit of the preferred club. The preferred club lounge was difficult to get to (why don't they add a sidewalk on the south side?) and staffed by employees who really didn't seem to care about service. The preferred check in was a joke. Had we arrived 10 minutes later, we would have been in a line behind 25 people. FYI, there is no real lobby here, but rather one room with four desks to check in for regular rooms, and the preferred club lounge with 2 desks to check in. Can get really packed at times. Pools were very nice. Never had issue with finding a lounger, though we are early risers and at the pool by 0730. Beach is not that great, though it is beautfiul. The preferred club beach is a bit laughable, as I still can't quite figure out what made it different, and have no idea how anyone would enforce admission, as there are no bracelets here. My bottom line on Preferred Club, if you can get it for ~$25 per room per night, go for it, any higher, pass. The regular rooms are closer to most restaurants as well. Speaking of food, I'd give Dreams a B. Buffet is fine, hits most marks with food options and service very good. People rave about the teppanaki tables (at all resorts it seems), and I've always wondered why. This place no exception, and it's the toughest table to book. Steak house was very good both times we had dinner there. Room service also good and fast. Pool lunch was same every day. Nothing special like I've seen at other resorts (paella day, crab curry, etc.). Just the same burgers, hot dogs, fries, nachos. It's fine to offer the same things, but please add something different every day. Drinks at the bars were fine, Flora Cana rum is great! Local beer was decent, no complaints. My overall summary is that I'm glad we stayed here, Costa Rica is a beautiful place, and the Dreams resort served its purpose offering decent service, food and accomodations. All three could be spotty at times, and nothing was outstanding. I'll likely never come back, but mostly because I prefer the relatively cooler Mexican climate. If I return, will be in the "rainy" season, when the hills are green.
