FOOD POISONING

My husband and I travelled to Breathless Montego Bay for our honeymoon. On day one we were very impressed with the property, amenities and night life. We arrived on a Sunday around 5PM and had dinner at the rooftop restaurant near 10PM. We were the only people at the rooftop restaurant, we had chicken bruschetta for appetizer & I had stuffed chicken breast for my main. The next morning, we had breakfast at the buffet, some fruit, pancakes, bacon, and juice. By 2PM Monday, I started to experience vomiting & diarrhea, which only got worse and didn’t stop for the entire 8 days of our vacation. I spent Monday through Thursday in the hotel room with the shades drawn, in bed. Finally on Thursday, I was seen by the on site nurse, who recommended I go to the hospital for dehydration and hypokalemia (loss of potassium from the bloodstream, due to excessive fluid loss). On Friday, I couldn’t handle the sickness any longer & was admitted to Hospiten Montego Bay, where I remained for three days until I could get my flight back to Canada. I was promised two nights refund from the resort for the night we spent off site, and REASSURED I would be able to pursue further compensation with the resort’s insurance company. I am disappointed to say that although we were provided a refund for two nights, no further compensation was provided & the resort is claiming they are not responsible. Totally devastated with how our situation was handled. Upon return to Canada, I was once again admitted to hospital & confirmed to have salmonella food poisoning. I remained off work for three weeks during this time, recovering from the severe electrolyte imbalance and dehydration. My husband and I did not get to enjoy any of this vacation. Not only did we lose the money spent on the vacation, but we incurred thousands of dollars in medical bills & lost wages due to continued illness & need for recovery upon return from our “vacation”. This was a honeymoon from hell and I would not recommend this resort to anyone. We are traumatized from our experience and completely disgusted with how the resort staff handled our experience. 0/10.

Beware of a manager named LEON

TLDR: I was extorted and made to pay an extra night in order to leave. Get everything in writing and keep your receipts. My complaint is not with the resort which was as nice as advertised. My issue is the deceptive practices of the front desk staff & particularly a manager named LEON. On the day in question, the people I shared a room with left around 9am. With my flight being at 4pm I hung around the resort enjoying the food, drinks, sun & amenities. My airport shuttle arrived at 1:15 & as I go to board a security guard told me I needed to present him with a checkout card. My friends handled the reservation so I was kind of in the dark but I went to the desk & a gentleman named Shane checked the system & gave me a checkout card. I handed it to security & boarded the bus. I waited on the bus for 10mins. LEON walks over & asks me to step off. We go to the front desk where he explains that I wasn’t in the system & that I would have to pay approx $700 to leave. He was accusing me of sneaking onto the resort. I explained that this was impossible because when we checked in as a group they scanned my passport. I told them to check one of the other rooms and what does he find, you guessed it, a copy of my passport. At this point I am getting anxious & scared because my bus to the airport left & Leon is not letting me leave. Remember Shane previously gave me a checkout card. Leon explains that I stayed an extra night & that I would have to pay $340.99 to leave. So we go from having to pay close to $700 to now only owing $340. I explained we were a group of 7 with 3 rooms. 2 people left the previous day and the remainder of group leaves today. All of this was explained at check-in (when they scanned my passport) & the lady who checked us in confirmed that it would be no problem when it was time to leave. But now it’s a serious problem. I was told that I could not leave unless until I paid. At this point I feel under duress. Security kept looking over & posturing in what I perceived to be a threatening manner. So I hand him my credit card & he charges me. Should be the end of it right? Well it wasn’t. At this point Leon hands me a pen and asks me to sign. I sign. He tells me the signature doesn’t match the one on my passport. I am dumbfounded at this point. He has a copy of my passport with my face on it and demands that I sign another copy of the receipt. I protest, but again he tells me that I can’t leave until I sign. He hands me another receipt, I check to make sure it isn’t a new charge and sign. Leon again tells me that the signatures don’t match. At this point I am irate because I feel he is intentionally trying to aggravate and disrespect me. “Leon you have a copy of my passport” He responds “the signatures don’t match”. I show him my US drivers license & my actual passport. It did not matter. He printed another copy & made me sign again. In total I signed the same receipt 3 times & all 3 signatures looked the same. I ask why couldn’t I leave after the first signature? Leon says something I couldn’t make out under his breath. I take my checkout card (remember this is the second one I’ve been given by the hotel) & am “free” to leave. This is not how you treat customers. If there was something amiss with the reservation we should have been told BEFORE check out. My passport was connected to the room of my friends who left the previous day. It was never switched to the rooms that were leaving the next day like we were told it would be when we checked in. When the first set of friends checked out no one at the front desk said “hey we notice 2 of you are leaving but there is 3 of you on the reservation” What a horrible way to end what was a great celebration. I would love to say I would return to Breathless but after the treatment from LEON, they won’t ever get anymore of my money.
