Excellent location on Times Square. It’s really close to all the theaters and a good place to stay although a little hectic with all the traffic. It’s right outside Times Square. Stayed here in 2007 using Marriott Points. Went back in 2019 with my sister – booke a corporate rate for one room and used points for the other room. Still the best location but less than ideal recognition for Marriott status – no upgrade, no breakfast, etc. All non-corporate rates also have a ‘destination fee’ of $30 per day plus tax which can be applied toward food and bar purchases including in the Concierge Lounge. We used it up as we would have had drinks anyway. Room was large and comfortable but NO mini fridge. I had to call twice to get a robe. We'd probably still stay here again because it's all about the location.

Overall, the hotel was beautiful and you can't beat the location if you are hoping to be close to broadway and times square. My wife and I have wanted to stay here for years, but the costs have always kept us away. This trip, we decided to pay the extra money and stay here. The room was great, the room service was excellent and fast, and the locaiton was everything we thought it would be. We were a bit disappointed with regards to the destination fee. The fee was $30/day but they didn't explain to us how it worked. We checked in at 1am and apparently our $30 credit runs from 11am to 11am each day. Meaning that we had 10 hours to use our credit for the first day. Upon check-in, they didn't explain any of that to us. It wasn't until the next evening, when we asked concierge how it worked, that we found out about the 11am-11am time table for the credit, so the first $30 was gone. That was frustrating. The last issue was on check-out, we asked for a later checkout and gave us one. However, after going out for the morning, we came back and our room key wasn't working. We had to go back to the front desk and when I asked to have our room key reprogrammed so we could get back in, they said that we never had a late checkout. I told them that I called the front desk earlier that morning and asked for it, they asked for the name of the front desk person. Like I would remember that. Anyway, they eventually reprogrammed our key, but that was frustrating.

LOVE THIS HOTEL! We have never been to New York...first time for these Canadians. We booked the Crowne Plaza for our stay. After one dismal night there, with zero ventilation, hot and stuffy 75 degrees and a bathroom cockroach, we fled to the Marriott early the next morning to beg a room for the next 4 days. Viktor was so kind. He booked us in immediately, we did not have to wait for the 3:00 check-in time. We got the room, went back to the Crowne to get our daughter and our bags, check out, and walked over to our lovely fresh, nicely ventilated room at the Marriott. My husband says it was the highlight of our trip! The next 4 days were fantastic knowing we had this nice nice room and hotel to come back to after our days adventures. Room service was divine...we ordered breakfast in from Fresh Bites every morning...good food, reasonable prices...real maple syrup in glass bottles with the waffles...so impressed! The lounge also very lovely...glass rounded windows with a fantastic view of Times Square. My husband and I shared a bottle of pinot noir one night after our Wicked show...so fun! The rooms and bathroom were updated and clean, comfy beds and the room nice and cool for sleeping. We used the fitness room...wow! It was open early, I used it every day...so nice! We booked tickets for the Hornblower Ferry from the hotel. It takes you to the 911 Museum and around the Statue of Liberty...what a great day that was, thank you Marriott for the tip on that. We were charged 30$ per day for that perk, it worked as an incentive to order food and do activities...it really worked out well. The only thing that did not work for us was the pricey dinner at the View. Hubby ordered lamb, he did not enjoy it and my daughter ordered salmon and she did not enjoy it. I told them, they should have ordered filet mignon! Anyway, that was the only drawback and we got over it. This hotel was so much nicer than the Crowne Plaza....it was beautiful, elevators...wow! We had a lunch in the Crossroads the afternoon we left, Acktahr (spelling) was so good to us...food was great. If we ever come back to New York, we are definitely staying here! Thank you!

Good stay seriously marred by issues related to destination fee

Recently stayed for three nights in one of the newly "refreshed" room. Rooms on floors above and including 36 have been refreshed. Clean and attractive, from carpet to walls. Comfortable bed. Love the elevator technology - I truly believe it minimizes wait times. Upon check in, I was informed (as I already knew) that the lounge was closed for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. As a Platinum Envoy member, I would receive 1,000 bonus points for each day in lieu of breakfast. The daily destination fee of $30 (yes, it increased!) included high speed internet access. Since I was supposed to receive this as a Platinum benefit, they gave me an additional 1,000 points per day. When adding my Welcome Gift of 1,000 points, I was already at 6,000 bonus points for the stay. BTW, these all posted correctly after departure. The fee also included tours but I did not have time for tours. That was of no value to me. The third and final item of value for the fee was a $30 credit in the restaurants and room service. It could not be used in the gift shop or Starbucks. I specifically asked about the timing of use. I was staying 3 nights, so did I have to use the credit each day or could I save it up for one more expensive meal? I was told it had to be used each day, and the day started/ended at noon. My first morning, I placed an order for breakfast from room service. The menu in the room stated that their new service would deliver food in 20 minutes or less. The menu stated there would be a delivery fee of $6 but that apparently is now $9. I waited 30 minutes after ordering and called to ask about delivery. "It will be right up." Another 10 minutes, another call and another promise. The food arrived after 45 minutes - not the 20 minutes promised in the phone message and on the menu. When the food arrived, it was tasty. The scrambled eggs with salmon was large enough for a family of 4! Between Broadway shows, I ordered dinner. Room service didn't start until 4:30 so I placed my order via the app right before 4:30. Even though the menu and the phone message still promised 20 minute delivery, the app said it would be 30 minutes. Called at 40 minutes. Food finally arrived after 55 minutes. Again, tasty food. Disappointed that items on the printed menu were no longer available. On Sunday, had lunch in the restaurant. Good food but service was kinda slow. Great waiter, but slow kitchen. When I complained about the slow delivery for room service, I was told they were extra busy. I suspect the destination fee contributes to this. They encourage you to use room service so they should be staffed for it. By charging the destination fee, they may have defeated their own intention to deliver room service food quickly. Upon viewing my final bill, I noticed that only two of the three $30 credits were applied. Again, another problem with the destination fee. Their billing system only applies one fee per "day", but that system uses midnight to midnight, not noon to noon as explained at check in. A supervisor was summoned who commented that he could not see the times for the two room service charges on Saturday. Finally, the supervisor did issue the final $30 credit. That's more hassle than they should inflict on their guests. Had it not been for the annoying destination fee issues, this would likely have been a five star review. Please, do away with this conceit. Just add the fee to your base rate since it is not optional. Also, if you're going to encourage all of your guests to use their credits, staff appropriately so that room service and restaurants can handle the increased workload. The fee is enough to make me look elsewhere for my next trip to NYC.
