This is an iconic art deco hotel at a prime location and a very busy one. Positives: Location. Literally 10 steps from Time square. Two restaurants and a bar are in the same building. Breakfast discount vouchers are provided (set menu for discounted price but not included in room rate) and breakfast is very good. Nice, comfortable bed, clean bathroom, clean and soft towels, good quality bedding. Old style but nice furniture in the room. Cleanliness ,while not perfect, is acceptable. Good size tv, comfortable to watch from bed. Huge selection of channels including movie channels. Wi-Fi is good quality, good enough for streaming, too. Better than in most nearby restaurants where even google maps would load as Wi-Fi was spotty due to weather. So hotel’s connectivity is reliable. Concierge is kind ( I met 2, it is true for both), helpful and professional. Security by elevators and guests must show their keys to gain access. Should be improved: - heating up to 72F in daytime was a challenge, took hours and still did not reach the set temperature. No blankets are provided only the bedding. Having said that it wasn’t cold, it remained above 68F mostly. Was warmer in the evening. - fan is very old, as loud as a tractor plowing a field, nothing else can be heard while it’s on; - they asked how many people in the room, looked at my passport and decided that I do not count for much ( based on the impolite tone of voice), then gave me a smaller than small sized room at a lower floor overlooking a noisy back alley service area, - room does not resemble to the classic room they post the pictures of online; - bathroom is clean enough but dated As to the restaurants: Friedman’s: - Staff especially Julia and Allison are very nice and capable - Food is of good quality. Everything I tried was excellent. - For some reason they keep seating the hotel guest to the front by the windows where it is colder. But if asked they were willing to sit me elsewhere; Bond45: - had dinner here, ended up impressed by the ambiance and interior and unimpressed with the food. Interpretation of carbonara was a large portion of bland pasta silkily covered in egg mixture but without distinct taste of pecorino/parmesan and only 2,5 cubes of guanciale on top, none in the sauce. Interpretation of sautéed broccoli looked more life leafy greens and was cold.
