Having stayed at various different Marriott, Hilton and Independent hotels in Palm Springs; I was looking forward to giving the Riviera a try; even though I had read some mixed reviews. To start with; if you don't arrive expecting a shiny and perfect 5 star resort hotel; then you will likely be pleasantly surprised. I was! The room was lovely; a jr suite with a large bathroom; and comfortable bed. The staff was consistently friendly, the grounds were really quite nice; the lobby was retro cool, colorful and fun. The central pool was really nice; although the music volume was a bit much (even for someone like me; whos an occasional dj). Overall; the only downside was on the cleanliness front. Carpets in particular need some attention; both in the lobby and the room. Overall; the hotel could probably use a bit of a spruce up; some of the Gym equipment had seen better days etc, Really the only reason I give this property 4 stars vs 5. Overall; a really very good experience!

Outdated hotel that pays no attention to elite travelers

If you are a Marriott Bonvoy Elite member, do not even think about staying at this hotel. We were put in some of the worst rooms in the hotel (outdated, dirty, no patio (just a window), overlooking the parking lot). I completely understand that rooms can't always be upgraded, but even in the same room class an Elite member should be prioritized for nicer rooms - that is why we are loyal to Marriott. There was no bottled water in the room. There was a pool party 10 feet from our room that went late into the night, with music playing so loud until 10pm that our room was shaking and we couldn't even hear each other talk. There were so many people smoking pot that it was coming through the air system. One of the two pools was closed for 2 days for a private party. This hotel has clearly decided to be a party hotel and let their facilities become worn down and outdated. If you are looking for good people watching, choose this hotel. If you are looking for a clean, updated hotel with good service, do not choose this hotel.

On first look, the hotel itself is great. Nice layout with the main pool very central with good house music playing at a nice level so you can enjoy a good conversation while listening to the music in the background but other than that I can’t find any more positives. When we first arrived we headed straight to the pool, it wasn’t overly busy but had a nice atmosphere so we waited for the server to come and take our order but she seemed to keep walking past and ignoring us so we decided to walk to the pool bar instead. The server seemed to be uninterested when we ordered and came across road, while making our drinks he got out his cell phone and started texting which I found strange, we also ordered food and was told to come back in 10minutes to check on our food even though we pointed out where we were sitting. he sounded displeased that we suggested he had to walk to our table and deliver our food even though everybody else had food brought to them. The food was good but nothing exciting, the usual bar food that you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Finally managed to order from the waitress by the pool about an hour later. We ordered a strawberry daiquiri which we were told were sold out so ended up ordering a mango daiquiri which was surprisingly nice. We ordered another about an hour later which we were then told that they had also sold out so decided to just order ice water instead and the waitress told us that there was water located on the entrances to the pool either side and she was basically telling us she was too busy to get water for us and had to get it ourselves which we found pretty shocking but after telling her I wanted “ICED” water she finally brought us some. It was a Monday night so a few of the local restaurants nearby were closed so we decided to just eat at the hotel. We got to hotel restaurant and was greeted by a young lady who when we asked for a table just shrugged and huffed like we had upset her when we literally only asked for a table of two. The restaurant had less than 5 tables in it and food and drink seemed to take forever. We ordered a shrimp cocktail to start which was delicious and for main course we had the Waygu burger and the sirloin steak. When we ordered the steak the server didn’t ask how we would like it cooked but we didn’t think at the time but when it finally came out it was basically burnt, we also ordered some ranch sauce and two more drinks but the ranch sauce never came and we had to ask to more servers about our drinks but didn’t mention the over cooked steak as we were just too hungry at this point. The highlight of the night was nice helpful man which we presumed was the duty manager, we ordered dessert with him and he was extremely helpful and recommended his favourite dessert which was the sticky toffee pudding and he wasn’t wrong. It was awesome. Just a shame his staff didn’t have the same charisma otherwise it could have been a great experience. Overall the stay was a little sour with most of the staff just not wanting to be there. Potential to be a great hotel with the right staff.

    Great experience!

My stay at the Riviera was quite enjoyable. Everyone there was so welcoming and friendly! Our room was comfortable and had a patio next to the pool, which was very relaxing. I wish that we could have stayed longer, but will next time, as I’m sure to be back here again soon. We had lunch at the restaurant outside adjunct to the pool and it was a treat. It’s a unique set up, in that the pool and restaurant are separated by a hedge and fencing, but it has the feeling of a large, open area. The food was delicious! Our server, I think her name was Maria, was attentive and helpful. It was a wonderful time!

Don’t stay in block 8 asked to be reassigned to a different room

Arrived at the property building where are room was located (block 8) to the unpleasant smell of drains, not a great start but the room was fine and didn’t smell. Rooms back onto staff entrance and trash area so not a great location .7am woken to what can only be described as the sound of a monster truck parked outside the room . Reported the issue to front desk who said they would look into it . Now 8am noise still there after closer inspection I think it’s some sort of huge motor or fan on the roof. Rang the front desk again several times they wouldn’t answer my calls . Now there’s the roof motor and a large delivery truck parked out side the room to add the orchestra of motors. Either way not a pleasureable relaxing experience I was hoping for . They shouldn’t have guests staying in those rooms with that kind of noise . Would add a video of the noise if I could
