We had a wonderful time. The beach is beautiful, and the service is top notch. The nightly entertainment was great. We loved the spa as well. There was really so much to do at this beautiful location.

Secrets Akumal is fabulous. We visited in November and December of 2020 and I have just booked our return for April 2021. Of special note, the parent company of Secrets has just announced on-site free of charge COVID-19 testing for US residents, so we are so happy that the new US travel restrictions will NOT impact our Secrets Akumal visits. November trip was 4 nights with my husband. He does not drink alcohol, so his top items at Secrets Akumal are the snorkeling with the turtles and the awesome food. The water was the clearest we have ever seen it. He saw turtles and a sting ray in the same outing. Secrets Akumal gives you the ability to get some of the best snorkeling in Riviera Maya right outside your hotel room, it doesn’t get better. As for food, all the restaurants are top notch, but on short trips we never miss dinner at Himitsu, Bordeaux and Portofino. On this trip we also ate dinner at Seaside for the first time, the steaks were very flavorful, tomato basil soup awesome, but the dessert, Fried Milk cake with cinnamon ice cream was the best, it is now a must-have for all visits. Thank you Eyner for the great recommendations and service at Seaside. The Hibachi at Himtisu is a great show with great food, but their menu is also very good and requires no reservations. They have awesome appetizers and a great Sushi selection. Favorites are fried shrimp dumplings, softshell crab salad and sushi dragon rolls. At Bordeaux we enjoy French onion soup, filet mignon steaks, chicken cordon bleu and rack of lamb. At Portofino the Burrata cheese appetizer, Tortellini and Osso Bucco are a few of the awesome dishes. These items will rival or beat any 5-star restaurant at home. We enjoyed the evening shows in the theater, the Beatles show and the Elements show shouldn’t be missed. Thanks to the Entertainment staff Jonas and Rene for keeping us entertained. My husband enjoys the buffet at the Market Café. The food is really good and the selection is expansive. Consuela the hostess is always there to give you a warm greeting. The service at Akumal is top-notch, everyone is friendly and always assures you have whatever you need. We had great service at the beach with Micaela, Felipe, Francesco. My pre-dinner martinis were perfectly prepared by Ramon in the Preferred club and my pre-breakfast double expresso cappuccinos by Diana in the preferred club. December trip was 6 nights with a girlfriend. We enjoyed great pool side service with Felipe and Lazcano. My skinny Palomas were prepared perfectly by Juan and Antonio at the Seaside bar. Lazaro provided great service in the Preferred club. My nighttime drink this trip was the Old Fashioned. I like them a special way and bartenders Jose Poot and Jesus Ocana prepared many, many, many of them for me perfectly. I loved how they “instructed” the other bartender on how to make them before their day off so my great drinks could continue without my having to actually repeat my preference. Just one of the many examples of how the staff really goes all out to make your stay special. The dinner highlight of this trip was a meal prepared by Carlos the Himitsu chef. We had all our favorite starters, but was then greeted with a tableside grill of Scallops, shrimp, chicken and vegetables and a plate of hibachi rice. The meal was awesome. My friend and I talked about that excellent meals for the rest of our trip. We also enjoyed fabulously prepared scallops at the Bordeaux along with all our regular favorites. Special Thank you to chefs Vlad, Jonathan, and Reuben, for all the great meals, and especially the “November birthday specials”, also to Jerica, chief concierge and Gabriel, bar assistant. While you may not have the pleasure of seeing their faces, they are always hard at work behind the scenes making sure things are perfect.

We were actually "stolen" from another resort after reluctantly agreeing to a "tour" of Secrets Akumal. The three other people in my group were annoyed that I agreed to this tour. When we awoke the following morning and met our driver at the Vidanata lobby, we were regretting to agree especially when the Secrets resort is over an hour away after we were told it was right next door. BUT...IT WAS THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED. When we arrived at Secrets, we could instantly tell that the resort was so much of an improvement from where we were staying. We sat through the presentation, but JC( our salesperson) was a kind and gentle person. We chatted over breakfast and then walked around the resort and looked at some of the higher-end rooms. When we went back to the salesroom we actually agreed to purchase the vacation program. I am still unsure if it is going to pay off, but they put all 4 of us up for the rest of the week. Our room was an oceanfront suite and our friends were in the building behind us in a very nice room. The first resort employee that we met was Luna, our bellman, who happily welcomed us to the resort and was so excited to show us everything in our special room. It was a great first impression. We had our own concierge in building 2, David, who was just as spectacular as Luna. During the week, David would come to find us by the pool to make or confirm dinner reservations. Every time we would come into our building, David would come to greet us and see if there was anything that was needed. When it came to the pool area, Lezcano was our pool service person and he was incredible. Whether it was a quick special drink or something to eat, or even just a smile and happy words for the day. The entertainment staff was always busy and whether you wanted to join in or just watch, they kept you as busy as you wanted to be all day. The entertainment staff of Mariana, Marshmallow, and Rodrigo never stopped the fun. We even sat with Rodrigo to talk about the culture of the country and about his life and family in Mexico. Ivan was there every morning to greet us and ask where we would like chairs that day. The other two pools were much quieter if you did not want the hustle and bustle of the beachfront pool. The food was very good, the presentation was always on point and the service was impeccable. We were blessed with three private chef dinners. Isreal, the chef, came to greet us and the two sommeliers, Angelica and Alberto made all of our meals very special. We ate in the wine cellar one night and it was a very amazing experience. Angelica would also track us down during the day to confirm our dinner reservations. Who knew Mexico makes some pretty delicious wines. Alan, the manager of Bordeaux also deserves a shout-out. We were there for 6 days and we can't wait to go back. We would love to try some of the other Secrets and Zoetry properties, but this will somehow always have a special place in our hearts because it was our first. There were so many other people who were super helpful, but unfortunately, we did not get everyone's name but the staff is always working and no one will ever walk past you without a greeting and a smile. Make sure you don't miss the shows at night as well as the specialty lunches by the pool.
