Waves is a decent 3* hotel, with plenty of positives, evenly balanced with the negatives.
Check-in took well over an hour which wasn't acceptable and a seriously bad start.
The rooms are nice enough, clean and more modern than others that I've stayed in Barbados. The resort is generally clean, tidy and well maintained.
Food is mixed. Breakfast is good, lunch is okay but some (not all) of the evening meals in the main restaurant were up there with the worst I've experienced. The Asian restaurant was also awful, lazily prepared, dry and disappointing. We chose to eat out for half of our meals as did a few other guests that we spoke with.
There is virtually zero table service in the bar and outside areas, which was seriously irritating. The waiting staff which occasionally meandered around ignored our attempts to engage and avoided eye contact. We tried everything, including tipping and nothing works. It was borderline rude and this needs to be addressed by management. Aside from this the staff were nice.
The treatments in the spa were excellent and this was a professional and very positive experience, so use your free treatments!
All in all, it was a pleasant holiday but we won't be rushing back.

Had a great stay at Waves, lovely hotel, amazing food and excellent service. Special shout out to Mr Bignell on the front door, always had a smile and a wave for us! Christine who always had a laugh with us, Valerie, L’Oréal and Tracey Ann for preparing my sons daily bowl of watermelon. Pamela always looked after us on the beach with drinks orders, nothing was ever too much trouble!
Rooms were always kept very clean and tidy - would recommend an ocean view room, the views are amazing.
David & Lee - the watersports guys on the beach were great, we loved going out in the hobbie cat, my sons loved the ringos and we all learnt to water ski!
We enjoyed the turtle boat trip booked through the hotel, Ricky our captain was great & looked after us well as was his assistant who was swimming with us, diving down and pointing out turtles/fish in the sea, we loved it!
Gym was great as was the spa, the treatments were excellent.
Evening entertainment was very good, usually a singer, maybe a quiz night or games night would be fun just to add some variety?
Only one negative and that was the family pool, it was tiny, no view and surrounded by a high wall, not a pleasant space to spend time. The pools at Crystal and Tamarind however were great so we tended to use those.
Great holiday, I would recommend Waves.
