The AC in our room did not work for the duration of our stay. We talked to the front desk and they said they would have someone look at it but it was a common problem in many of the rooms. No one ever came to check on our room and we weren’t even offered a fan! A room change likely wouldn’t have mattered since the front desk admitted it was a problem in many of the rooms.
The Worst Hotel Stay of my Life
Sep 26, 2021
I wish there was a way to give less than one star, because our stay here at the Hilton Garden Inn was just horrendous. We booked this hotel as part of a Costco travel package, and I am honestly shocked that they would allow such a horrible and disgusting place to be one of their travel partners. The hotel itself was very outdated. The lobby needs some TLC, especially in the carpets. The "river" that runs through the hotel, I believe was supposed to be really nice and have waterfalls, but it was completely stagnant and chock full of green algae. The smell coming from it was reminiscent of low tide, very pungent. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and we let the front desk know. They had no upgrades available, which was fine, you can't always get them at check-in. The first room they gave us, we entered and the AC was busted. We went back to the front desk, and they informed us that maintenance would arrive shortly. He eventually showed up and let us know that the unit was busted, and we would need a new room. We hauled all our bags back up front. The front desk staff was not helpful, and the maintenance man had to come up front and reiterate that he could not fix the unit, and we would need a new room. The second room they gave us, not only was the AC unit also broken, but the dehumidifier was as well, so the entire room had a very damp feel to it, and a very moldy smell. My asthma began to act up almost immediately after opening the door it was so bad. We then had to haul all our bags back up front. The front desk then informed us that there were no other rooms available for at least 2 more hours. So we had to leave our bags up front and wait until they had something for us. Eventually they checked us into the third room, and it seemed to have no issues. The staff were not very apologetic, and did not offer us any upgrades or discounts for the inconvenience. The hotel is open air, the dehumidifier in the room, we discovered, fills up within about 5 hours because of this. So every night we were awoken to loud beeping, and if you ignored it, within an hour the entire room would be hot, damp, and disgusting. The AC unit seemed to be on a motion sense device. That or it didn't work properly. It would constantly shut off at night for hours until the room hit 75 or 76 degrees, and wouldn't turn back on until we got out of bed to fiddle with the thermostat. The bed itself was awful. My husband likes firm beds, and I like soft ones, but neither of us could ever seem to get comfortable on this one. The pillows were basically just sacks of air with no support. After the first night we went snorkeling at the nearby beach. And that section off property was probably the nicest part of the hotel. When we came back that afternoon, a cup of soda we left on the counter was swarming with ants. Not just a few, the ENTIRE nightstand was a blanket of them. I understand if occasionally a bug gets in, but this was an infestation. When we called the front desk, a man showed up with a can of ant spray, sprayed the nightstand, and left. No apologies, no nothing. The pool was fine, but the hot tub was barely even warm. The switch for the jets was missing, so it was basically a tepid bathtub full of floating chicken feathers and no bubbles. Breakfast was mediocre for the outrageous price. And the service was extremely slow. It took almost ten minutes for someone to bring us water after we were seated. When we checked in, the woman at the front desk let us know that they do not have regular housekeeping services, but since we were staying for five nights, they usually service the room on the third night. After reading other reviews, she must have been mistaken, and we must have needed to request it, because no one ever came and serviced our room. By the time we left it our trashcans were piled high with trash, sand was everywhere, and we had a massive pile of towels in the bathroom. For a Hilton property, I was very disappointed in our stay. I would not recommend this property to anyone. And we were so happy when we checked out, because we were finally out of that hell hole.
TLDR: Disgusting and outdated hotel with broken amenities, and bug infested rooms. DO NOT STAY AT THIS PROPERTY.
