Privacy issues

PurplePumpkin1951 (Portland, Maine, United States) on Sep 18, 2021

The theme is great. It’s playful and fun. Our biggest problems center around privacy. The walls are so thin I was kept awake because of our neighbor’s snoring - all night long for the first couple of nights. The first night we were here the people above us started dropping things on their floor at 11:30pm. Just when we thought they had stopped they dropped something else. This went on for a period of time. The point is, it woke us up and it kept us up. The floors/ceilings/walls are all quite thin. The most invasive part of this experience is that housekeeping insisted on coming into our room whether we wanted them to, or not. I had to retire to our room due to an ER visit on the first day of our arrival. I was sick for all days but 1 while on vacation. I was on medication the entire time and could only enjoy partial days with my family at the theme parks. Housekeeping gave us the option of whether or not we wanted daily service. We indicated we did not. This did not matter. They still came into our room. They didn’t show any sign they had been there, but they came in. Again, they left no indication whatsoever that they had been in our room. It’s important because we indicated we didn’t want service. So we figured no one would be in our room when we weren’t there. And there was no policy that educated us there would be people coming into our room whether we had service or not until after my husband stopped by the front desk one day to tell them we don’t want anyone in our room (as I was sleeping my afternoons away trying to recover from what sent me to the ER). It was then he was told housekeeping needs to know when are good times to come check out our room - daily. When I was in the room, resting, toward day 3 of our weeklong vacation, housekeeping knocked on our door to which I responded we didn’t need anything. I was sick. On medication. In pain, I did not want to answer the door and I certainly didn’t want anyone walking into the room. The room was not unusually messy but it certainly wasn’t what I would consider “neat and tidy”, as I’d been feeling under the weather. I told housekeeping they can’t come in until my husband returns later on in the day. The housekeeping lady made it clear she needed to enter our room and wanted to enter right then and there. I made it clear this is not happening. I had the door open, she could see inside. There was nothing unusual about the status of the room. They’re all so small you can see everything with one glance from the door - except directly into the bathroom. Housekeeping made it clear that they must enter our room every single day. Not to clean it. To look at it. To make sure - I don’t know what they’re making sure of. They did not get into any details. They just said they needed to do a “visual inspection”. Every single day. There is no privacy here at this hotel. If you are not here to let them in, they will enter whether you want them to or not. And if you stop them because you are in the room they will call your room, knock on your door repeatedly (keep coming back) until you let them into your room. I have never had a hotel experience like this and we travel quite a bit. This is why we will not be staying at this resort again and it is why we cannot depart from here fast enough. Food is all American and it’s pretty good to just grab and go. Not much of a selection but this hotel is for kids, so chicken fingers and burgers fit the bill and we weren’t entirely unhappy with it. Fresh fruit and salads are nice. More cooked vegetable options would be a great addition to the menu (greens, not corn). Staff is generally pleasant and helpful, but concierge sent us on a wild goose chase for a Magic Band shop experience that did not exist anywhere in Disney Springs. My husband was looking for a specific set of bands to pick from and the front desk worker sent us to 2 stores in Disney Springs to find an array of options. We went to both - again, I was sick but figured it would be a light task to undertake. We walked to both of these stores, which are quite a distance from each other, and neither one sold bands - let alone the specific bands he was looking for. Water pressure in the shower is great. Allergy Menu is really on point.... great job with this. The chef actually comes out to write down your allergy-menu order by hand to make sure no mistakes are made. It’s very good. Kudos to this effort. Skyline from the hotel is a winner. Busses to Disney theme parks were very convenient. Timing between pick-ups at different parks was somewhat problematic due to the oppressive heat and humidity we had to stand in while waiting, but we took it all in stride. We appreciated the rides to/from. All beds are Queen size. We had to go on vacation to sleep in a queen size bed. We sleep in a King every other day of our lives but this room isn’t really big enough to handle a king sized bed so I can understand why there are none in this hotel. All in all it was a 2 star experience as privacy is a huge issue for us.

From bad to worse

Susanmy7 on Sep 16, 2021

It started poorly when the text from pop century said my room wasn’t ready at 3pm. I waited til 5:30 then went to the front desk to pick up my magic band and then go do something else while waiting. The CM said my room was actually ready. No text ever came through and my app never updated. Whatever. I get a room in the boonies far from everything section on the third floor despite requesting first floor. I guess they don’t bother looking at requests because they had first floor rooms available. One of the elevators didn’t even work the whole week. The one remaining one was super slow and you’re sharing with dozens of others. I’d have taken the stairs but I hurt my foot. Only plus was the Skyliner and it kept going down half the time, only once was due to weather. I was checking out and borrowing a luggage cart. The CM said they’d help me. I happily accepted and gave my room number since they don’t help you when you arrive but no one actually came to my room to help! Guess they forgot. To top it off they put the noisiest family next door my final night there. I gladly fled that ‘resort’ and checked into a Hyatt down the road. It costs less, the staff and room is way better and you get free breakfast. Unlikely to stay on site again. Do not recommend staying here. They don’t do daily cleaning but take trash and refresh towels every other day. Didn’t use the food court as it was too far a walk.
