We had a lovely stay at the Westin. I have to give a shout out to the LOVELY Lehua at the front desk. She was plesent welcoming and explained my bill to me so I could understand everything. She is a GEM !!! I would come back to this hotel just because of her. Thank you for your patients Lehua. This hotel is luck to have you !

Room was clean and it was nice to have a one bedroom. Common area was picked up everyday . Every employee we had contact with was very friendly and helpful. They are trying hard at this Westin. Would stay again if I was in the area.
Beautiful Public Areas, Many Dining Options

I had never stayed in the Kierland area and was curious what it was like. The Westin seemed to be the resort with the best location, so I booked two nights with my Marriott Rewards points to experience and evaluate it.
Upon first walking in I was wowed by the modern and immaculate lobby. Marriott’s app allowed me to check-in prior to arriving and use my mobile phone as a key, which meant I could go straight to my room and bypass the front desk completely. It was a well-furnished room with a nice semi-framed shower, refrigerator and electronic safe. While walking on the room’s carpet, I noticed that my white socks would get dirty by the next morning each day (the only times during the trip I had my shoes off were when I was inside the room). So the room’s carpet could use a good shampooing and steaming (beyond regular vacuuming). I didn’t receive housekeeping service the first morning even though I removed the do not disturb sign and was out of the room by 11am. It wasn’t that big a deal as I was only there for two nights and had plenty of towels and soap. I’m not a fan of the Westin Heavenly Bed. The mattress and pillows are way too soft for me. A more firm pillow option would have been nice.
The dining options did not disappoint. I was able to watch the Monday Night Football game on the big screen in the courtyard while enjoying food and cocktails. The American breakfast I had the first morning at the cafe was above average in quality, satisfying and kept me full until the evening. I also enjoyed a few restaurants in the local area.
Due to learning from helpful TA reviews that the concierge is a front for initiating the timeshare sales process, I knew before arrival to avoid its services completely and never went to the desk. I have the internet so I was able to research and plan for touring and restaurants on my own. They sent me voicemails offering a gift bag, coupons and a future 3 night stay for $250, but I deleted the messages since I already knew the strategy they were trying to use. There is always a catch!
There are a lot of high end stores and restaurants within the Kierland Commons and the Scottsdale Quarter which are both within close walking distance. But the area was too pretentious for me. I’m glad I was able to experience Kierland, but will probably choose a resort that is closer to downtown Scottsdale in the future. I would definitely recommend the property for golfers and families with children who want a great pool.

We had an outstanding stay at the Kierland Westin Resort and Spa. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. The biggest stand out for us was the staff. From the bell hops, check in staff, restaurants waiters/waitress’s, pool and spa staff, everyone was friendly, helpful, and provided excellent service. We stayed 4 days and I’m still amazed we didn’t have one poor interaction with the staff. We’ve traveled a lot over the summer and this has not been our experience (including JW Marriott properties that were more expensive). This was huge for us! On this point alone, they get 5 stars from us.
The courtyard in the back of the resort, behind the lobby, is a very cool feature. It faces the golf course/lake so its very picturesque. They have a jumbo tron mounted on the side of the resort to watch sports. At night they open up the resort doors so AC cools off the courtyard. They have table service for food and drink. We spent two enjoyable nights eating, drinking, and watching college football on the courtyard.
The room was modern and well maintained. We had the king room with a comfortable bed (had very thick comforter which puzzled us for a desert resort - 106 degree weather), a Trundle bed and table. It had a nice size tv. The bathroom was nicely appointed with a separate shower and bath. All and all, we thought the pictures on the web site didn’t do the room justice. Very nice!
They have two separate pools. A large “family” pool with a lazy river and a separate lap pool . We hung out at the separate lap pool which provided loungers with nice cushions (much better than the “family pool”) and was a lot quieter. The drink and food service was excellent. Every 20 minutes someone came by to either offer iced water or take a beverage/food order. It was easy to find loungers together and the Westin doesn’t reserve basic loungers for an extra charge like some JW Marriott properties (very annoying).
The golf course was a typical desert course with 27 holes (not a lot of water hazards). It was in great shape and challenging but fun! We played the Ironwood and Acacia 9’s. I’ve played a lot of courses in both Phoenix and Tucson and this one ranks in my top 3.
I did not go to the Spa, but my girlfriend did with her sister. She usually does one spa day during our getaway trips. She said the Spa was beautiful inside with friendly and skilled service. She had the express pedicure/manicure and a facial. She gives them very high marks.
I just hit ambassador level with Marriott. I generally stay at higher end resorts. We’ve been disappointed with the service at Marriott properties over the 2021 summer. This includes some JW Marriott properties that were higher priced (for example Marco island Florida -avoid this resort). I was very impressed with the Kierland Resort and Spa and will be returning.
Pretty fun! With one area for improvement

First - check-in...we had 2 rooms, one of which was available early (11 am!) so we headed over to the resort early. James checked us in and he was everything you could hope for - kind, informative, flexible. We asked him about the Scavenger Hunt for the kids and his face just lit up as he explained it.
We really went for the pool, slides, etc. We ordered food and drinks all day by the pool with Katrina (Katarina?) as our server and she and the food/drinks were PERFECT. There are 2 slides which are fine - not super exciting, but kids were relatively entertained between those and the lazy river. The surfing was AWESOME! Kids just loved it and we have great photos & videos from it - yes, it is an extra charge ($15 registration plus $40 for an hour I think) but it was worth it.
A couple things made no sense: 2/3 of the inner tubes are so deflated that they sit in giant stacks by the pool - how hard is it to pay a teen to air them up each morning? Also, they have tiny sharp rocks in the flower beds by the pool and tube area. These spill over onto the sidewalks, where you are walking with bare feet. OUCH OUCH OUCH. Why not have large smooth rocks or really anything except tiny sharp rocks?
The golf course looked GORGEOUS but we did not partake this time. Lots of fun overall.
