Great place! We stayed for a week and enjoyed every minute of it. Service, rooms and resort were all wonderful. Place is spotless! The staff was always cleaning, landscaping and maintaining the pool areas. Lots of activities to do as well.

Girl’s trip!

jessmead (Calgary, AB) on Oct 24, 2021

A girlfriend and I came for a 5 day getaway to Marina El Cid. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Pool: the main pool was great. There were a decent amount of areas where you could find some shade. The pool bar was great with fairly quick service. Alberto was our server at the pool and he was always very friendly and would bring us drinks whenever he thought we might need a top up. There were a bunch of other pools, none of which we really spent much time. Beach: The beach is small, rocky and has a lot of seaweed. This was okay for us as we didn’t mind spending time at the pool but it you’re a beach junkie, I would suggest a different resort. The one time we did venture into the ocean, I cut up my feet on hidden rocks. Food: We ate mostly at the buffet, it was great for breakfast. I’m pescatarian and I didn’t have too much trouble finding things to eat. I love chilaquiles (theirs had chicken and I would usually get them to try to serve me from the chips that didn’t appear to have any meat) and one morning one of the buffet staff ran to the back and got me fresh, meatless chilaquiles! Other than that we were happy to eat tortillas with scrambled eggs and refried beans for breakfast! The Italian restaurant was also quite good, I had the swordfish and it was amazing. Mercado De Delores was the food court that was open at lunch time. It was quite good and had a large selection of foods. I just wish the Mexican had vegetarian options, unfortunately I didn’t eat there was everything had meat. The French restaurant was our least favourite. I had the salmon and it was just okay. We think the menu could use a bit of a revamp. Rooms: we upgraded to an oceanfront room when we checked in and it was the best decision! We had a beautiful view and enjoyed just standing on the balcony. The beds were extremely comfortable, the shower was great and everything was very clean. The maid service was great, the water and mini bar were stocked daily, turn down service was really nice with a chocolate on your bed. One thing though was that we had a storm roll through the first night we were there. There was some leaking from the balcony door and there was water all over the floor in the morning. It didn’t really bother us too much as we didn’t have anything that got wet. We just threw down some towels and it dried fairly quickly. The gym: was really quite good! It’s nice to have access to a functional gym on you trip. They had free weights, a smith machine, a couple of cable machines, leg press, treadmills, a studio area with bosu balls etc. and they even had a step mill. COVID stuff: we booked our PCR test easily and only had to wait outside for about 15 minutes in the morning before going in for our test. Since we’re Canadian we had to pay an extra $120USD for our test. The resort offers free rapid antigen tests but you will need a PCR test to get back into Canada. Just something to keep in mind, we took it in stride and accepted it as part of travelling for the time being. The staff were all masked at all time, despite the hot weather and the only concern we ever had was from other inconsiderate hotel patrons, some of whom refused to properly wear a mask or didn’t at all. These were few and far between though and the resort did everything they could to ensure safety protocols were followed. Location: the resort is a 10 minute cab ride to Puerto Morales. We had no idea how charming the town was and went after we spoke to another hotel guest. They have a bike tour there that takes place every morning but we missed it. I highly recommend checking it out. Hot tip: go to the grocery store before buying souvenirs anywhere else, you can find some great cheap stuff and not have to barter in the outdoor stalls. There is also a new high end mail that opened in Puerto Morales and it’s super nice. They carry a wide variety of crafts from masks to made hand made rugs. Everything was beautiful but we had decided to be more frugal with our souvenirs. Overall we enjoyed this resort and would go back. (Though we like to try new resorts just got variety). We met some great people staying at the resort which made it extra fun.

We had a great time at the resort taking advantage of all the activities offered, kayaking, paddleboarding, bike tour, nightly entertainment. The service was great in the restaurants, by the pool, and in our room.

The resort is beautifully maintained. Food was excellent! Service also very good! My second visit to this resort and I will definitely be back! This is one of the best places to be away from all the hustle and bustle!
