Arts & museums

Don't miss all the history and culture Miami has to offer. The museums here show you the history of the area, as well as the artistic movements initiated in South Florida and the role Miami has played in the world of art.

The museums offer exciting, affordable adventures and are great places to go -especially if there's a summer rainstorm putting a damper on your beach day.

In the Art Deco District of South Beach, the Wolfsonian-FIU exhibits feature objects from the modern era, emphasizing the importance of art and design throughout history.

Also in South Beach, the Bass Museum of Art displays collections of antiquities and art from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

In North Miami, you can visit the acclaimed Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Here you can always find a new exhibit or collection of exciting contemporary art, as well as occasional special events and performances.

Downtown, the Miami-Dade Cultural Center houses two museums. The Miami Art Museum (MAM) focuses on modern Western art. Next door is HistoryMiami. It is dedicated to exhibiting the history and progress of southern Florida. You can purchase a combined ticket to both museums.

Located in Coconut Grove, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is the former winter home of industrialist James Deering. Here, a grand Mediterranean Revival mansion overlooks the water, and the property and gardens hold priceless works of art and antiques spanning five centuries.
