I'm finally getting around to writing this review!! My husband and I would definitely recommend this location if you're looking to just relax. We met a lot of guest that said, this particular location had less daytime activities and entertainment. It didn't bother us any! The staff was absolutely awesome and I really appreciated the security guards around the beach area as it's a public beach and at times the vendors can be a little much. The staff went above and beyond, from "setting the mood" in our room on our anniversary night, nightly turndown to room service (breakfast can be somewhat of a wait). The bartenders were knowledgeable of mixed drinks, very entertaining and good conversation @Joy and Akeelah (She had just returned from having twin girls). As for food; we really enjoyed the Japanese restaurant, Kimonos & Soy (primarily the sushi), the chefs George and Joven were absolutely amazing to include servers Timesha and Charliko. We also enjoyed the Drunken Duck (the hot wings), the restaurant on the beach (your feet are literally in sand) and the eatery that served sandwiches for lunch. We didn't get a chance to try Mario's but heard it was appetizing. The other restaurant(s) and breakfast buffet just didn't impress us but the staff was nice and professional. Again, my husband and I would definitely recommend this as a great couples only and all-inclusive resort. Keep up the good work!!

I don’t often take time to leave reviews but this experience merits for others to know. The resort is in excellent condition, very well kept, except the Mediterranean side. That’s what they call the older rooms which are way outdated and leave nothing to desire. Now, customer service. I’ve been to resorts way less expensive than this and client service has been on point, here, however, most of the staff treat guests indifferent and often have an attitude. It’s not all staff but most. There are some like Sasha, who’s an entertainer, that are very very nice (as you would expect) and go above and beyond to please guests. My husband and I are a young couple and went to Antigua for our honeymoon, we stayed at the Veranda suite because most rooms were al ready booked by the time we got to make the reservation, May, 2019 for our honeymoon on November, 2019. The package they include as “honeymoon” isn’t special at all, it includes the same breakfast you can get at any of the restaurant, they just bring it to bed. We chose it for one day and they called the day before and woke us up because they had the days mixed up, again, they don’t pay attention. All that said, the food was good, I wouldn’t say 5 starts but at least 4. Eleanor’s restaurant was delicious, as well as Soy. Ok Corral had good tacos, I was happy because I love Mexican food. Reservations are required for Eleanor’s, Ok Corral, and Kimonos. Making reservations was imposible, we tried as soon as we got there and everything was booked. Tried again the following day and were able to get for Eleanor’s and Ok Corral, not able to get for Kimonos because they were fully booked. Overall, we enjoyed our stay because of the nice big pool and all the time to relax, there is no nightlife, just a few activities that end early. Wouldn’t go back here for sure, not only because we thought it boring but because of the horrible service. My opinion is employees don’t care because they’re not allowed to take tips.

Twice a year, Never disappoints, never gets old, always more special than the last.

Sandals Grande Antigua SGA has become a second home to us over the past 10 years. We visit twice a year and each trip has become more special than the previous thanks to the staff. Our most recent trip in October 2019 was extraordinary, as my husband and I renewed our wedding vows. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by countless staff members that are like family to us. I will highlight just a few of our favorite things and the incredible people @ SGA that make It “Home” to us. Restaurants: Mario’s.. the anti pasta bar is incredible! Coming from NY, we know what good Italian food is, Mario’s does not disappoint! And the chocolate lava cake is a great ending! The hostess Sylvia is warm and welcoming to everyone that walks through the door. Ken, the friendliest restaurant manager, is second to none. He is always happy and has the best smile. You walk in and simply feel happy and relaxed. He is constantly checking on each table to make sure everyone is okay and taken care of. You meet him once and you will never forget him. He is one of a kind. Soy... Hands down the best sushi we’ve ever had! George, the “blackanese” sushi chef (as he calls himself) is incredible. He takes so much pride in his work and always goes above and beyond to make sure everything you order is perfect. He loves to surprise you with one of his own specialties and never disappoints. George has been with SGA longer than almost any other staff member. He is a true professional, a tremendous asset at SGA and an all around, good human being. Even if you don’t like sushi, stop in and say hello. When you do, make sure to say hello to Jessica too! She is such a warm and outgoing person. You can’t help but want to know her better... and if you’re lucky, she might sing while you’re there. Nic is the manager at Soy/Kimonos. She is without question one of the nicest people we have ever met. Always has a smile, holds the door as her guests arrive and makes you feel at home from the moment you step in. Soy is always busy but Nic finds the time to make sure everyone is happy and taken care of. Drunken Duck... Great for a quick dinner or late night snack and has our favorite dessert on property, the bread pudding! Our favorite waitress on property happens to work here too!! Claudine! Always thrilled to meet new people and even more excited to see familiar faces! Makes you feel special every time she sees you. She is part of the fabric of SGA. Cafe Paris... everyone’s favorite pit stop on property! The coffee is a must, the pastries and ice cream are awesome, and the cookies are to die for. For me however, it’s the CREPES that are so addicting!!! I could probably survive on just them for the week! My favorite is peanut butter, Nutella and banana. Give it a try! But the heart of Cafe Paris is Sylvia. Stop in, and take a moment to say hello. You’ll be happier for it. She is one of those people that you meet once and never forget. The world should have more Sylvia’s. The spa... Kayan has been my “go to massage girl” for many years! If she’s not available, Beverly is awesome too. Can’t go wrong with either of them. Both excellent and both sweethearts! Being we were renewing our vows, I decided to have my hair and makeup done for the first time. After researching online, the name “Michelle Mac” came up so many times that I had to request her. Well I’m so thankful I did! She was awesome! I was so happy with my hair, I wish I had her 20 years ago on my wedding day! I don’t usually wear much makeup, so I wanted a natural look. She did exactly what I asked. If you want your hair or makeup done, request Michelle Mac! You will leave happy! Loyalty and travel, previously known as “Soon Come Back” (which I like better) One of our favorite things to do when we are there... is book our next trip! The new countdown is what makes leaving tolerable. And saving an extra 12% (butler category room) if you book while you’re there is a nice perk! Stop in and see Alex or Marcia... they are so much fun!!!! They work tirelessly to find the perfect resort and room that fits you and will do whatever they can to get you the best deal. Just really good people, who love what they do! Butler staff... My husband and I splurged when we booked our first Sandals trip, and booked a butler category room. Well, that’s all it took. We were hooked. While the list of things the butlers will do for you is endless, for us however, it’s simply the saving of the chairs! We don’t like to wake up early on vacation to get our favorite spot on the beach. (We are also creatures of habit so we like the same spot every day) It’s so nice waking up when we want and knowing we are all set up. Chairs, Towels and a cooler filled with our favorite drinks. That’s just what WE appreciate most but the list of what they do for their guests is incredible. I am always in awe at how hard they work, how many rooms they have assigned to them at one time, and yet make you feel like you’re their only guest. Our first butler in Antigua was Hunter and we have been lucky to have had him with us for every trip since then. Hunter is a CUT ABOVE and sets the bar high for all butlers. He will do anything and everything to make your trip as special and memorable as possible. After so many years, you would think that we’ve seen it all but somehow Hunter makes each visit new and comes up with more special ways to surprise us. We were finally able to show him just how much he means to us. My husband asked him to stand as his Best Man, for our vow renewal. In addition to Hunter, we’ve been fortunate to have other incredible butlers throughout the years. Jeneva, June and most recently Laurecia to name a few. These ladies were such a blessing the day of our ceremony. They took on the role of a sister and were with me every step of the way. If you are lucky enough to have any of them assigned as your butler, you are guaranteed to have an incredible vacation. Little secret... June and Laurecia can sing like no other! Being it was our 20th Anniversary, we wanted to renew our vows. It was an easy decision to do it in our favorite place with so many staff members who have become family to us. I would like to acknowledge someone who went above and beyond to make our day extra special, Luana from the wedding department. From the moment we met, we knew we were in the best hands. She took her time and explained exactly how the day would go from start to finish. Luana took her time going over every detail, made sure to ask specific questions to personalize our ceremony and walked the entire resort in the rain showing us every location until we picked the perfect spot for us, which ultimately was the beach gazebo. When the day of our ceremony arrived, Luana was there from start to finish. She knew I was nervous and reassured me that everything was taken care of. She has such a calming presence, which is exactly what I needed. While this may have been the first time we met Luana, it felt like we’ve known her forever. I would also like to mention SGA hotel manager, Leighton. While I intended on walking to the gazebo alone, as the moment approached I was overwhelmed. Leighton appeared and saw how nervous I was, gave me his arm and walked me to my husband who was waiting in the gazebo. I was so grateful and will never forget what that random act of kindness meant to me. He may be the hotel manager right now but I have no doubt he will have the title of General Manager one day!

The beach and water are fantastic! The drink service was hit or miss but the bar is not too far away. The pools are also great. Two of them have swim up bars. We stayed in a Caribbean Club Level Junior Suite. The location was perfect but the room itself was so-so. Nothing luxurious at all about the room. We also had trouble getting alcohol that we ordered and getting the mini fridge restocked. We had to call a couple of time to make this happen. The food was great. We ate at Elanor’s, Barefoot, and Mario’s. Barefoot was my favorite. Great atmosphere as it is right on the beach. I had read other reviews that sea gulls tried to get your food from your plate but we didn’t have this experience. I didn’t even see a gull around the restaurant. Outside of Mario’s there is a place you can get pizzas. Monday nights they have a BBQ which was awesome! Plenty of opportunities to get drinks throughout the property. The entertainment is ok. The service was great! Everyone at this resort was super nice and would do anything for you. The airport transfer went very smoothly. We did a few of the excursions. Shirley Heights on Sundays is a must! We also took a shopping trip into St. John’s. The Power 360 Tour around the island was a perfect way to see the sights and they also take you snorkeling if you want. Antigua is an amazing island and I would definitely come back. I would definitely like to try another Sandals property sometime in the future.

Not the Best but Not the Worst

We've visited 5 Sandals resort thus far and while this wasn't the worse (Barbados) it wasn't the best. I am currently writing a letter to management about some of the crew and the poor service in the Bayfront restaurant. Please be sure that you understand there is a Mediterranean side of the resort and a Caribbean side. I liked the layout of the property just needed a better map to find out where things were it took us 2 days to find out which pool had the pool volleyball. The Caribbean pool is a bit tucked away. I also shared with management about making sure there's more seating for guest. Unfortunately I noticed at every nightly event so many guest standing up due to there not being enough seats. The entertainment staff could be more interactive with all guest and not a select few, from my observation. The food and service was GREAT at Barefoot by the Sea. If you are a returning guest make sure you ALWAYS attend the special dinner they have because I haven't been disappointed yet. Overall it was a fair trip, there is much room for improvement so I will be sure to share all my thoughts with management.
