Excellent rooms, service, fresh food. Credits a pain

tl;dr: excellent service, beautiful rooms, food was best when you could watch it being made, resort credits were a pain. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sun Palace. There was so much to love about this beautiful property. The grounds are relatively small, you can walk end to end in about two minutes, but the building quality was very good. The beach had a sand cliff and the ocean was hard to swim in because of rocks. About a 15 minute walk down the beach, you can enter around Club Med where the water is calm like a lagoon. Pool chairs, like at many resorts, were hard to come by, with most getting taken by 7:30 am, but there were plenty by the beach. Highlights: One of the biggest highlights was the attentive staff. Pedro, Johnny, Roberto, Alan, and Ale (the entertainment staff) were definite highlights, keeping everyone entertained with magic, music and games/activities throughout the day. Juan-Miguel and Silvio on the beach were great as well. Wait staff in each of the restaurants was also excellent, though I forget all their names. Jesus in Aurora, everyone in Thai, and Julian running the show in Tratoria! The entertainment in the evenings was great! Impressive shows, that (sadly) felt a little cheapened by the corporate feeling ballroom where they were shown. The main thing I'd recommend for the shows is to get a permanent, better sound system for the ballroom, which would make it feel a little more professional. The rooms (and grounds in general) were gorgeous. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the wall to wall marble in the rooms. Jaccuzi in suite, backlighting on everything (including lights that shine up through the marble on the bedsides!) rainfall shower, everything excellent. The cleaning was also impeccable, big shoutout to our housekeeper Sonia. Pools were beautiful. The food in the four restaurants was generally very good, with the best things being those where you could watch them make the food. Tacos at brunch by the pool or in Aurora were great. The green curry at Thai was a real standout if you can stand the heat. Improvement: Biggest disappointment for us was how difficult it was for us to use our resort credits. We had $350 to spend, and it was very difficult. They charge 16% service fee to use the credits .We cycled through a few ideas for how to use our credits: couples massage, ridiculously overpriced at $800; an excursion, we couldn't book anything appealing with three days left; dying my hair, no availability. It seemed our only remaining options were the resort stores. It turns out you can't actually buy everything on resort credit, though they'll point out what is if you ask them up directly. Jewelry was 50% resort credit, randomly hats and bags could be bought with credit, but not sunscreen! In the end, using our credits was a pain. Most of the buffet food was just not great. Lunch sushi bar buffet looked sketch, we steered clear. If I were them I'd switch buffet to more standard Mexican fare, and index around prepping fresh food in the open kitchens. It seemed like there were timing problems in restaurants regarding food delivery. Food took a long time to come out, and when it did it was often a little cooler than you'd want. There were so many people on service duty that this seemed like a kitchen issue, but it's hard to tell.

We arrived at the sunpalace after spending a week Tulum and immediately saw the difference between the hotel where we were staying before the San Palace where we decided to spend our last days of vacation. As soon as I entered the hotel lobby I immediately noticed the air conditioning was very cold once I entered inside the room we had booked also there I encountered the same problem always reconditioned very cold. This problem caused me discomfort for the entire vacation. Fortunately in the room there was the possibility to adjust the temperature but in the rest of the hotel so even in the restaurant when we went down to have dinner or lunch or breakfast there was always this very big problem of air conditioning. I will be brief because I do not want to divulge about the little things that are wrong with the hotel because it is not of my interest. The food is decent the staff friendly. But the big problem that there is in this facility and that I found unprofessional on the part of a Hotel and that to me and my companion they invited us to spend a day in another hotel of the Baglioni group always connected with the San Palace they told us to spend this day because it was in their interest to make us discover the services that are strong in this type of hotel and then without commitment they would pay us the transportation they would offer us lunch and they would make this consultation to make us discover the world of this group. So far so good except for the pressure they put on us the whole time. the manager who accompanied us for the hotel tour (I'll make it short) wanted us to sign, after an hour of various information about the offers available on the packages of their hotels scattered around the world. They wanted us to sign a contract in which they offered us vacation packages according to them at a significantly lower than a standard figure this discount could only be had by becoming a member of the Baglioni group and then signing on the spot the contract they did not even want us to read. The experience was among the worst I have ever experienced before. I realized that there are people who are there to scam you, because that is what it was all about. Unfortunately, I could not help but notice that next to us were foreign (Indian) tourists who had signed the contract. Once I escaped this scam, I did a search on the Internet and I couldn't be more relieved that I didn't agree to sign that contract with three ménages lobbying. There are so many testimonies of people who have been scammed for so much money. They offer packages that you will never get and once you sign the contract they can take money from your bank. Be careful of this hotel, don't do these visits they propose and don't be fooled. If you decide to do it anyway, Before signing read the other testimonies of people who have been ripped off. Be careful!!!!
