First of all this is our second visit to this hotel. We came here when this hotel was 4 months old and it was a fabulous hotel to stay in. This time unfortunately the standard has dropped tremendously majority of the staff had left and it is a far cry from what it once was. The staff do their very best to try and provide what there is to the customers however it has not met our expectations as before. We flew with Thomas Cook as you all well know by now this company has since collapsed the day after we arrived as you can imagine things became desperate with uncertainties with us staying and also getting home. The provisions of the hotel was very poor including the standard of the food and the constant reputation. At times we were being served food recooked three days old. There was a lot of flies with no provision of cover to protect the food. Drinks was watered down, no lemonade, too sweet the cocktails. The booked restaurants were a little better but not by much. As the days passed on staff were fewer and fewer. Our room was cleaned to a fashion but still had mosquitoes, air conditioner worked off and on, power cut a few times and on one occasion we had to eat by tea lights for half our meal. The hotel Is only approximately 4 years old but it looks so run down. The walkway to the beach needs attention as in parts especially the safety rails needs urgent attention before a serious situation develops. The walk way to the sea is fantastic you can walk quite a way out into the sea. The water is clean and clear with little to no waves at all and you will see lots of marine life. People that love marine life should take snorkelling goggles. Unfortunately we were so disappointed by what we faced at this hotel whether it was Thomas Cook folding or the lack of provisions not provided to us due to this situation, we still feel the hotel fell well short of the three stars. We do encourage people to go to Cuba, it is a wonderful and still natural and fairly safe part of the world to go to. The people are welcoming even under great adversity. We are however going to take a long time to recover from our experiences here. Martin and Patsy Thomas

The beach is the best beach in Cuba. The sand was amazing and the beach sloped gently into the water. Loungers were only 2 CUC each and we had shade and sun when we sat on the beach. This is a must see for beach lovers when in the area.

We caught the open top hop on/off bus from the hotel and travelled to playa pilar. The ride was bumpy and windy, which was a giggle! After about 45 mins, we got to the beach. We made our way down the wooden walkway towards the beach. The first glimpse is out of this world!! It was like something out of a magazine. The sand was like talcum powder, never felt sand so soft. As for the sea, it was a gorgeous shade of blue. It was the most calm sea I’d ever seen and you could keep walking out for so long before it got deep! There was a restaurant which served lobster, chicken, pork and beef. Sunbeds were 2CUC each. We saw pelicans in the sea and the island of Cayo Media Luna which is over the way, makes the photos I have look like the Maldives! We came a few days later and it was windy with a few showers around. Although the beach was still beautiful, the sea was choppy with waves. If you’re coming to Cayo Coco or Cayo Guillermo, a visit to Playa Pilar beach is a must!
