We just got back from one week at Meliá Las Dunas and were pleased with this resort. This was our fifth time to Cuba so we knew what to expect in regards to food, but we were overall happy with our stay at the Meliá. Rooms: rooms are a bit dated but were cleaned every day and had everything we need. Air conditioning was strong and took us awhile how to figure out how to get it to work without freezing us. We were on the main floor and the patio door didn’t seem to lock at first but there was just kind of a “sweet spot” to get it to lock. I had requested a crib and it was waiting for us on arrival. There was also a fridge that was replenished with beer, water, and pop daily. King bed was large and reasonably comfortable. We never had a problem with insects but my friends did; they had also left Oreo crumbs all over their floor so that might have contributed. I made my toddler eat his crumbly snacks on the balcony or beach just in case. Food: not bad for Cuba. We didn’t try the a la Cartes but the buffets were okay. We never had to wait for a table (in fact, servers wait at the door and practically beg you to sit in their section). Lunch doesn’t start until 12:30 and dinner doesn’t start until 7. I wish it had been a little earlier (maybe noon and 6?) because we were travelling with a toddler but we made use of the 24 hour snack bar when needed and had brought snacks. Lines for food/stations were dependent on peak times: breakfast between 9 and 10 and dinner between 7 and 8. Lunch never seemed that busy but we always went at 12:30 and there are two buffets open for lunch. The grill at the beach buffet was appreciated by my meat-eating friends. I preferred the regular buffet as a vegetarian because the selection was larger. Food quality was okay. You definitely get tired of the food but it’s Cuba so was fairly typical and they do the best they can with what they have available and I was actually pleasantly surprised with a few offerings: the Swiss cheese was delicious, they had cake-pop-like dessert that kept my toddler going, they had an ice cream parlour and one day had cotton candy, the fish station at the buffet was never disappointing, they had yogurt and fresh fruit at every breakfast, and they had lots of roasted squash and eggplant. Tip: bring your own reusable cup for pool and beach drinks for environmental reasons (and to keep them cold longer) The grounds were nicely kept and although the resort is starting to show its age, it was still kept up nicely. The pools seemed to be in great condition. The kiddie pool didn’t have any of the amenities in the photo but it didn’t matter because there was a huge wading pool and then family pool nearby so we wouldn’t have used it anyways. The beach was amazing. We usually got there by 10 and could usually secure 4 lounge chairs in the shade so it wasn’t too bad. It grinds my gears when people reserve chairs from 7 am - 5 pm despite only stopping by for an hour or two so if you do this then please stop. If people stop this ridiculous behaviour there would be plenty of chairs for everyone who needed it when they are physically at the beach. But regardless of people doing this it was still an okay selection of chairs at the beach and pool. When the wind/waves calmed down we went out on a free short sailboat ride from the beach. As usual, the highlight of our stay was the staff. We met lots of helpful staff who generally seemed happy to be there. They were also big on “little touches” like a note in our room next to a heart-shaped towel on Valentine’s Day and a groundskeeper gave a little grasshopper made out of cuttings to my son. We usually bring about $150 CDN each for tipping throughout the week, so that is always appreciated and likely contributed to even better-than-decent service future times. All in all, I would recommend this resort. Go with an open mind and the understanding that they can’t get the same food we can get in our home countries and they do what they can with it. It’s a beautiful place with lovely people who work hard.

First off let me say a big hello and thank you to my favorite friends, IDIEVI best bar waitress ever and always happy and smiling and recommendations on drinks are exceptional, GUILLERMO your special warm welcome every time we saw you started our day with a big laught, FRANK our gardener your special art craft with leafs are awesome and a big thank you for super fast services from YOEL and SANDY from the buffet area. Can't wait to see you again. Outstanding resort with great potential. Best animations, shows and extra special guess ever. Only 2 recommendations to make for this resort to be a top notch. Turn down volume of kids show cause it over powers other shows going on at same time its very displeasent, could use refresh paint in rooms and some TLC like replacement of broken chairs in lobby, new cushions in front lobby cause some are ripped, replacement of gaming area on adult side has lots of damage games. oh and please bring back sparkling wine or champagne to lobby bar. Buffet food was excellent with fresh fruit smoothie to your liking. Huge Turkey, huge roast beef and fresh fajitas ?? was so yummy. Then this resort could start charging more $$. We stayed from Feb,06-13,2020 had an amazing time, we travel all the time to Cuba and would never change that. Loved our vacation ?? M.P

    Great trip...relaxing vacation.

We went as a group of 4 during the week of Jan 21-28th. On arrival our check in was quite fast and efficient. We were escorted to our rooms quickly, and as a nice surprise had 2 rooms side by side in a very quiet villa (62). Adults section. Rooms were fine. Clean and the fridge had a few beers, pops and water. Pillows were a bit nasty. Air conditioning worked great as well. We had no hot water for the first day and a half - we were told it would be fixed, and it was. No issues after that. The maid service was great as well! We tried a few "a la carte" restaurants. First the Mediterranean which was terrible. Actually none of us finished any of our courses. We though oh boy, I hope the rest of the week is not like this. We then tried the International, Asian and Cuban - all of which were 100% better. Our favourite by far was the asian. For lunch, we usually ate at the BBQ - beside the Beer garden. Great lunches there. Beer Garden had some great snacks. French fries were awesome! Beaches great - water so warm. Pools very nice - but pretty cold.. No drink service at the pool. The lobby bar in the evenings is where we mostly hung out. Kudos to our favourite bartenders Alain and Ashley. They were fantastic!!! Entertainment at this resort was extremely well done - always something going on. The resort is huge. There were a few golf carts around picking up people to and from rooms - wish there were more. Overall, we enjoyed this resort, and I would not hesitate to return.

First time in Cuba. After a week traveling around the island the stay in Melia Las Dunas has been great. Amazing location, stunning beach and wonderful hotel. We had 5 days of full relax and enjoyed very much the comfort of this resort. All inclusive including drinks on the beach. Food in the buffet restaurant was good; it is difficult to get a table in the other restaurants as you need to book in advance. Although the resort is huge, it is still very quite. Very friendly staff.

Nice resort however too large for us which was an on line booking error with the red tag service as we were to go to the smaller Melia Cayo Santa Maria next door. If you have mobility issues then this resort is not for you. They do have a great shuttle service however. if you can call them from your phone in the room. We were suplied with a clean and lovely ground floor room the as requested after our first mix up of a king size not double and we were minutes to the clean beautiful beach wow breathtaking. We stayed in #48 on the beach front path however our phone didn't work all week although it was reported daily. Our petite blond maid took great care of us. No coffee makers only a kettle also which was a first in all my years of travel. The pool was nearby however it could use a railing for the elderly and people with mobility issues. I think a little music would have been nice.. Our barteders Fernando and Johan pleasantly served us daily. We enjoed our daily luch at the pool restaurant of bbq served pleasantly by Guelle. 'The main buffet had no WHITE WINE after the first two days and the abuse the staff took because of this was very unfortunate as who tips that service???? The hotel should be ashamed of this for 5 days no white wine with your diner? Entertainment needed some work this week mmm not the usual at the resorts I've been to over the years. Ladies like our wine Get it together Melia chain take care of supplies before you lose business
