I have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the past few years. Check in and check out have always been smooth and easy. I love the location right by Penn Station and all subway lines. The beds are always comfortable and allow me to get a great night's sleep. On my last stay I faced an issue that I wish I had pressed for a better solution. But hindsight is 20/20, right? When I checked in around 1PM I smelled an odor of rubbing alcohol in the bathroom. Thinking nothing of it, I left to go meet up with friends. When I returned to the room at 10:30pm the smell was overwhelming. I called down to the front desk and asked if there was another room I could move to due to the odor. The gentleman who answered immediately told me no, but he would send up maintenance. Someone came up 10 minutes later who immediately commented on the overwhelming smell upon opening the door, he then sprayed air freshener, and blew a fan for about 5 minutes. At this point I should have called down and demanded another room at the hotel or another Fairfield close by, but I stupidly didn't. When I work up the next morning I had a headache and my eyes were burning. My eyes were burning so much that I was unable to put my contacts lenses in. When I checked out I informed the front desk of the odor and I was given Marriott points for my troubles. It took a full day for my eyes to stop burning and for the headache to go away. This is the first time I ever encountered this problem and also lack of interest in taking care of me as a customer from the hotel. It has caused me to question staying there again in the near future. In hindsight I wish I had spoken up more for myself in regards to my needs and health.

This is a very nice hotel perfectly located opposite Penn Station and Maddison Square Gardens. The reception staff were extremely efficient and courteous. I arrived earl at 11.00am but they immediately contacted Housekeeping to see if a room was ready for me. There was a room on the 20th floor with a view over the city. The receptionist, Nina, was particularly helpful and deserves special mention. My room was very clean and the bed most comfortable. The lobby has a well stocked market with confectionery, cold drinks, water etc. The breakfasts were excellent. No bar or restaurant in this establishment for dinner but plenty of options within walking distance. You can also order take away and have it delivered. I used the underground trains(subway) which get anywhere across New York. Easy access from Penn Station. This was a great establishment and I would have no hesitation in recommending it most highly.

Can’t beat the location, across the street from Penn Station and MSG. Very friendly and efficient check in. Rooms are typical for NYC, but enough room, nice bathroom. Breakfast was above average, all around great hotel.

Quiet and Quaint for Midtown and proximity to Madison Square Garden

I have an office at 1 Penn just across the street from the Garden and once a month or so I make a trip there and try to find a hotel close to the office. Most are what you'd expect, small and the street noise is unbearable. Just across the street from the old post office the Fairfield Inn is very quiet. The rooms are nice, the shower and bathroom are spacious and all in all a very nice place to stay. I'm definitely making my next stay there.

We spent the weekend here and had a wonderful stay. Our room was on the 19th floor and we had a fantastic view. The breakfast buffet was really good vegetarian options. Everyone at the front desk and concierge were friendly, helpful and polite with the exception of Gil. She is the only reason I’m not giving our stay a 5 star. She was rude Friday when we checked in, and we gave it a pass. Then they held our bags for us when we checked out so we could have another day in the city, when we got back to the hotel she was there and again rude. Thankfully all the others made up for her.
