    Another Magical Stay

We just returned from an AMAZING stay at the Contemporary Resort. Disney has started to remodel the rooms at this resort. And I am sure the rooms will look “incredible”, but we wanted to experience the classic contemporary décor one last time before its gone. We have always stayed in the main tower, but this time decided to stay in the Garden Wing building. Also read online that the Garden Wing Deluxe room is larger because of its location in the building….glad we booked this room. (Room 5109) The moment you walk in, the large space is amazing. We loved to have a sitting area where we had our meals. The TV seemed to be larger than the ones in the normal room. The bathroom is also huge with both a shower and bath tub. 2 sinks and the toilet have its own private room inside the bathroom. We also were on the first floor which gave 2 terraces. Great to sit out in the morning and have coffee. COVID: The room was spotless and no housekeeping. Which is fine as it is not needed. We had plenty of towels and don’t need my bed made. ?? FOOD: We used the mobile app to order food. We picked it up to have in our beautiful large room. I know that because of covid, things are limited, but I think that the Contemporary Resort food options are good. Also you can use the Monorail to the other 2 resorts for more food options. POOL: We had planned to use the pool, but because our room was so inviting, we decided to stay in and relax with a drink. But the pool was full with everyone having a great time. They had music going, so the vibe was fun. We had 1 thing that was super weird happen during our stay. While taking a nap, we got a knock on the door that they were there to inspect our room. They came in, flushed the toilet, turned on and off all the lights and left. I called the front desk and asked them if it was legit, and they said it was. I find this weird because of COVID. No Housekeeping, rooms service, or bell service, yet they send someone in during my stay to check that the toilet works???????? Many reviews mention the price as a negative for what they got. My opinion is simple, this resort is a Disney nostalgic resort. It was built in the 70s and love many of the retro details which other consider “dated”. Yes, some of the furniture in the room had nicks or dings, but it is nothing that took away from the cleanliness or comfort of the room. The Garden Wing is a great affordable option which give you all the same perks. OVERALL: This resort is not cheap, but you get top Disney service with the convenience of a 10min walk to the Magic Kingdom. Comfortable rooms/beds in this amazing building that is a huge classic Disney. I highly recommend it to all. Cant wait to stay later this year after the rooms in the tower are done.

First off, we have been to Disney 20+ times over the years, first staying at the Caribbean Beach, then the last 5x at the Wilderness Lodge. Upon having our May 2020 trip cancelled due to covid, then cancelled 3 more times, we finally got down to Disney May 1-7. As WL is closed, we moved to the Contemporary. I had never stayed there - my hubby stayed there one time when it first opened, staying in the main hotel. We reserved a Garden Wing/Garden View room, and got room 5119, which was in a perfect location for us. We love walking, and boy did we ever walk on this vacay. (8-9 miles a day) Upon doing our due diligence, we knew of all the restrictions the hotel and park had at this time. We knew about housekeeping every other day, knew about mobile ordering, knew where we had to wear facemarks. Yes, this hotel was expensive (we paid around $425 a night) but we knew what we were getting for that price. Those who complain about what they did not get did not research enough. We arrived in our rental car, went to the main lobby in the Contemporary. I had checked in beforehand on my phone, but needed to pick up a key to the kingdom card, as I could not wear a wristband due to mypacemaker. We arrived at 12, and I had requested early checkin. The one "glitch" we had was we did not get our room until 5:20 pm - well past the 4pm checkin time. Needless to say, we survived this. We parked our car in the lot near the Garden Wing, went through the lobby, and were pleased with our room location, view, and small "patio" which had 2 chairs and a small table. Very easy exiting room through the sliding door and walking to the "beach" where we sat every morning watching the water and reading while waiting for our daughter to get ready. Our room was quiet, a/c worked great, housekeeping left the extra towels and shampoo we requested. Garbage pails in the room are small, and we seemed to generate a lot of garbage for some reason. We ended up carrying our garbage to one of the outside pails so it wouldn't pile up/smell until housecleaning came. No big deal to us. We did not use the pool at all due to covid worries with no facemarks in the water or around the pool area. (even though we are vaccinated.) We mobile ordered from the Contempo Cafe 3x - food was well-prepared, on time. Prices - well, they are Disney prices. What more can I say! We walked to MK 4x, walked back 3x and took the monorail back 1x. No boat service was running to/from the resort. As this was our first trip away in over 1 year we are very happy that it was a Disney vacation, and that we chose the Contemporary. We decided this will be our new home base when we return to Disney, whenever that may be.

I rarely write anything negative on social media but the Disney's Contemporary Resort is not good. They may have been before Covid but now. NO! We paid over $2000 a night for the best suites. No room service, they clean your room every other day, food was not so great, and the worst part of all, they had the biggest Roaches ?? I ever seen in my life... do not go there. PS: They said they will give a $100 credit for the roach incident ??What is $100 gone do for the anxiety that caused!

Booked a 2-bedroom suite at the Contemporary. The room was to be a club level room — but while the pricing for such remained the same, the “club” aspect vanished. The normal conceirge desk on the 14th floor is now gone. The club level snacks, appetizers & drinks are not offered either. The floor is undergoing construction as well. I understand COVID changes things but Disney was not forthcoming or transparent about the situation. To pay the money for club level was a ridiculous waste. There is now no difference between the club and non-club floors. Other Issues: —housekeeping comes every few days (challenging when you have a large family with several kids), —there is no room service at this time ...you can place mobile orders on your phone that you pick up at the restaurants (The Wave or Contempo Cafe) — the 4th floor arcade is closed indefinitely Again, these would have been non-issues if we hadn’t paid full price for our stay. One would assume part of the cost is based on the many services and conveniences provided during your reservation.

I have always looked at this hotel and then immediately looked at other hotels due to the price, I do believe we caught a "sale" when we booked for about $420/night, mid-week late April. There were a lot of pros and a few cons to staying here. Location- You are literally overlooking Magic Kingdom and can walk there in under 15 minutes, this was a huge plus for us. We walked in the morning and then utilized the monorail to come back to the hotel for a lunch break and then went back to the park in the evening. It was great. Monorail- We would have loved to use the monorail to get to Epcot because we went there twice during our stay but it's shut down due to COVID, but I do believe it kept the monorail pretty empty, we had no waits and our section of the monorail to ourselves. We had a day where we didn't do a park, so we took the monorail to MK and then the boat to The Grand Floridian to check it out and then the monorail back to The Contemporary, it was a nice experience with no crowds at all. Dining- We were 100% pleased with all the dining options at the hotel and the great experience using the mobile order ahead. Pool- The pool was amazing, the slide even better and the life guards even better. They were like hawks watching all the kids. There was a splash pad as well, which was nice but it kept shutting off on us. The bar by the pool was a bit pricy and there was only one bartender so it was also very slow. Room- When I booked this I didn't realize this hotel has three buildings. The first is the main building where the monorail comes in/out, the second is off to the side overlooking the lake and the third has it's own pool and probably restaurant(s), which we didn't explore. I called ahead of time and asked if we were in the main building and was told yes, but I wouldn't call it that. We were in the second building with no view of MK, but we did get lucky with our room because we were on the canal overlooking the water with a nice porch. I say this because I booked three rooms for one night of our stay when family came to visit us. Their rooms were pretty much the same with two queen beds but their view was of the parking lot and I think they paid the same as us so it felt a little weird when they came in to our room and it was just a much better view. I also asked for a microwave and they brought one to our room very quickly. My issue with the room considering how much we are forced to mobile dine (which was fine) was that there was really no table. There was a smaller table on wheels that we had to scoot out to our porch to dine on, which had it's challenges because the wheels didn't lock. There were many first floor rooms with a table outside but we didn't get lucky. Another issue is that there is ZERO counter space in the bathroom, there are two very oversized sinks so we just had to use one as a "countertop". Housekeeping- Here was our big issue, we had some other kids soiled underwear hiding in one of the curtains. I found it because my son was hiding his pressed pennies from the day and was setting up a pressed penny hunt. They immediately came to take it away and sanitize the area and did offer to change our rooms but we had a nice view and didn't want to lose that and they didn't say it would be upgraded. They did offer a discount to help the situation which was nice. Also we signed up for housekeeping every other day and they never showed up. So to my surprise after a long day at the park thinking house keeping came to our room I was very disappointed when we got home that it was still kind of a mess. I called them and asked them to come clean up and while waiting just did it myself, they never showed. I left a pile of trash and towels outside our door for at least half a day if not more before someone came and picked it up. If my budget allows I would stay here again mostly because of the proximity to MK and the dining was great.
