Honest review here. This was a nice, clean hotel in Varadero as you’d expect. I have read some reviews on here and agree with some points but also disagree with others. As you’d expect, it had good points and some pretty notable bad points. Here goes. Firstly we had this hotel allocated as part of a package deal so it should have been good. Advertised as 5 star with the travel company. Well.... it isn’t. It’s a 3.5 star, so don’t really expect 5 star luxury or quality. If you get this place as part of a cheap package holiday then snap it up. However if you want that 5* touch, keep looking. So the staff. I have never met staff as friendly as the staff here. To the point of they make an effort to make friends with you and cannot help you enough! This goes from the restaurants, to the bars, to the bell boys. Absolutely fantastic in every way possible! Couldn’t fault anything. Secondly, the cleanliness, again very very good. The maids were brilliant and made every effort to make your room look stunning on your return from the beach. I actually started having little pen conversations with our maid as she kept leaving us notes... brilliant! Then one day a little gift. So Sonia on the 8th floor of the main building, if you ever get to read this, we love you. Thank you. The Views... the views from the hotel were brilliant too in every direction, can’t complain here. So let’s look at features of the hotel. The main lobby after being rebuilt from Hurricane Irma is clean, neat, comfortable with a great bar in the middle of it serving great cocktails for that lovely sunset... which you see most of. This is really the main bar to the hotel and is very civilised until a lot later in the night when the drinks begin to take effect - you can’t blame the hotel for that really. But, it’s just people having a good time so didn’t bother me. It wasn’t loud and obnoxious. The outside and inside seating areas are large... could do with a few more chairs outside but can only imagine they blew away in the last storm maybe? Who knows. It’s very nice just a little sparse. Inside though is an abundance of seating. It’s a very large area to fill so you’ll never struggle to find a seat. Great for all generations. Hotel grounds... these are really nice. Great gardens, shrubs and lovely clean swimming pools. The beach is also really nice with lots of natural umbrellas and newly built huts for that shade from the blistering sun. So as I have spoken about bars, I’ll go through the others. On the beach is a ‘beach bar’. Well, it’s not ‘really’ on the beach, it’s in the bushes, and unfortunately down one end. Only drinks here. The problem here is this end was much busier than the other end, and for me was a little overcrowded and noisy with bit outdated drinking games of ‘Who’s the sexiest Lady’ competitions. Come on... that’s very 90’s. They could do without that to be honest. It’s not an 18-30’s holiday destination . So this leaves a much quieter location on the other side of the hotel beach which was bliss! So you have two sides to the beach depending on what you wanted. So is there a bar on this side of the beach? Well yes, but no. It’s through the bushes and it’s a snack bar that serves booze and well, snacks. But... for some strange reason they don’t serve drinks for the beach here or food either. Not really sure on the logic of that, as a plastic cup is a plastic cup, and booze is booze. As for the sandwiches, they won’t serve as takeaway back to the beach either. All a bit weird. It wouldn’t be difficult to do, or hassle. So if you’re this end of the beach, it’s a bit of a sandy trek to get a fresh drink. However, for a sit down lunch or a 24 hour snack, this place serves that purpose. Sandwiches are good, burger is great, someone could do with showing the chef how to fry a French fry though as I’ve seen more life in a zombie, and the side salad was a bit of chopped up cabbage... not massively appetising. We started saving the fries and cabbage and having just the sandwiches. Needs improving. So that’s the bars, now the restaurants. You have the main buffet, 3 a la carte downstairs and another on the roof for a bit of cash extra. The buffet... hmmm. I have to be fair here because the Cuban people are lovely and they are clearly trying hard to serve a big buffet restaurant. However, I have to be honest, the food could be improved. There was lots of choice but it’s very basic stuff. The most excitement I got out of it was on Taco night, however that was a one off. That’s if you ever know what you’re actually eating as nothing is labelled, not even the sauces. Most of the time you’re thinking “Well whatever that is, it looks nice”? But never actually know what is in it. Variety on each night, there’s a large variety, however it’s mostly the same variety. This is for breakfast and dinner by the way. Honestly if I see another omelette again.....! You get the odd thing that looks different, however is it any different? Not really sure. Anyway, you have more options. There are three a la carte places downstairs and the one upstairs. We only tried the Cuban one and it was really good! I’d recommend this. Mainly because we kept forgetting to reserve a table. Our bad. During lunch though there is a nice buffet next to the snack bar hidden down by the beach. This is really nice during the day for lunch, much better than the main buffet food in fact. We ate here every day and it was very good. Had crispy fries only on one day though. Really need fry-cooking tips in this hotel! So the a la carte restaurants, I can only imagine they’ll all be good, so make sure you visit these. The Japanese one looked amazing! One thing to note though is there are no menu’s to look at. So it’s a bit of pot luck as to what you’re going to eat. Menus are a good idea - print some please Bella Vista! So some pretty poignant bad points coming up that really did annoy us and others too. This hotel needs some money spent on it, mainly to do with cosmetic stuff and mechanical stuff. The lifts/elevators. It’s pretty shocking to see 2 main lift shafts in the main building, each with 2 lifts. One lift in each was permanently broken, and the remainder in one lift shaft kept breaking down, leaving just 1 lift for the hotel. That’s really bad when you have lots of people trying to travel up and down the hotel. This was unacceptable. Light bulbs, you’re lucky to find a hallway with all the lights working, good luck with that one. Damage to the floors, lots of badly patched up areas where floor tiles are broken and just patched up. Can look a little scruffy. Our balcony door wouldn’t lock, was broken. The main zig-zag water feature between the pools was also knackered. Sun loungers were also a bit knackered. There were lots of things that were just... knackered! The whole hotel needs a bit of TLC. Again, it’s not dirty or very untidy looking, it just needs some TLC. There is a Spa on site and some entertainment, didn’t visit either of these so cannot comment. Oh forgot another bar... the pool bar. This is quite good when it’s quiet in the water, but expect a fight to get to the bar if it’s busy. It’s a bit club 18-30’s again at times. If you want a quiet one, stick with the beach. But if you want a good laugh and want to mingle and booze, this works... if you can get a drink. I think I’ve covered most parts. Again, it’s a 3.5 star. Don’t expect 5 star quality here, you won’t get it. But if it were advertised as a 3.5 star, I’d be impressed. :)

I traveled with my own family (husband and 3 kids ages 8-1.5) and another family with 2 kids 8 and 10. It was all of our first trip to Cuba. We obviously had some hesitation about the food, especially since our friends since they're whole family follows a gluten free diet. Although the layout of the main buffet is really badly designed and sometimes meant long waits for food, the food itself was really good. Everyone found something to eat every meal - no complaints there. We were only able to get into one A La Carte restaurant in the week we were there. We ate at the Cuban restaurant it was good. We were pretty disappointed that we didn't get to eat at the Japanese restaurant. I went the morning after arrived and apparently it was already booked up for the week at the earlier sittings. The only time they had was 9pm, which obviously wouldn't work for a group with small kids. We realized afterwards that even though the restaurant is huge and has multiple tables they only book 8 people at a time for the 6:30 sitting, which we found kind of weird. Just note, that all restaurants and buffets start serving supper at 6:30, so if you're traveling with little kids like we were that are used to eating earlier that may be a bit tricky! We both had the family rooms which is two connecting standard rooms. It was nice to have the extra space with the kids. Our friends were on a higher floor and had a room with a beautiful view of the ocean. The rooms were modern but upon closer inspection were a little bit rough around the edges (chipped furniture, bubbles in the wall and chipped paint). We had bedding in our room that appeared to have some black mould on it. We just removed those from the beds and worked with the sheets. We brought some little gifts for the cleaning ladies old clothes, toiletries and little kids toys. They were so appreciative and gave my husband a Big hug. It just happened to be her daughter's birthday and she was so happy to have something to give to her as a present! The beach was beautiful but very rough when we were there. We only went into the ocean a few times because the waves were really strong. The kids loved the pools and splash pad the ladies at the Kids club were AMAZING! Great job! Overall, we had a really wonderful time. I would definitely recommend this place!

We just returned from a 7 day visit to this resort for our wedding with a group of 70 people. I have no complaints about the resort. Everything was clean, and founds the beds comfortable. Not all the elevators worked, but there are always 2 side by side and one of them worked. I had no issues with food, I always found something to eat. The wine was good, and lots of champagne. We were very happy with the ceremony, dinner and reception. We had our ceremony on the beach, a private dinner in the restaurant/gazebo area just past the snack bar. They decorated the areas beautifully. We had upgraded to the prestige room and Edouardo the wedding planner upgraded us to a suite. It was much easier once we arrived and had our first meeting to discuss things as emails were a little harder to convey stuff back and forth. The beach is very nice, We always managed to find chairs anytime of the day. Although I'm sure further into December it may be more crowded. T .

This resort exceeded our expectations knowing that Cuba has its challenges. The hotel was really nice, well laid out, extremely clean (rooms as well as all the common areas), amazing beds, tons of food, superb beach, good shows in the theatre nightly, staff was friendly enough. The food isn’t great but we all know that before we go to Cuba. There’s enough selection to allow you to find something you like at all times. Also the cooking staff will accommodate small requests, such as cooking the eggs or bacon a bit longer etc. I’d recommend this resort for sure.
