Honeymooners Beware!

Sabrina D on Dec 05, 2025

I never write reviews, but I felt I needed to take some time to do this in hopes of helping save future honeymooners. My husband and I have stayed at plenty of AI resorts and this was, without a doubt, the worst one we have ever stayed at. For my future St. Lucia honeymooners: stop what you’re doing and look up Jade Mountain. We stayed 1 week at La Toc & 1 week at Jade Mountain and WOW was it night and day. TLDR; If you’re considering La Toc for your honeymoon, DON’T! I’ll start with the positives: Our team of butlers (Sam, Shanna, Skylar & Mavel) were wonderful! They were always happy to assist with any request and we never felt like a bother for asking (which is something we were worried about coming into this). They would have mid-afternoon & after-dinner snacks waiting for us in our room, would bring us cocktails at the time they knew we were getting ready for dinner, would draw a bath with rose petals for us in the evening, etc. Our butler team was easily the highlight of our stay. Another positive of this report was the food; I would say 75% of our meals here were very good! The spa: When my husband and I arrived, a woman from the spa came up to us while we were waiting to check in at the butler lounge and signed us up for a couples massage. No mention of price, type of massage, length, etc. You can imagine our shock when we arrived for our appointment and received a bill for $412 for a 1 hour massage. Never in my lifeeee have I paid so much for a massage. For context, a 1.5 hour couples massage at Jade Mountain (a FAR superior resort) is $260. Taking price out of it.. the women who conducted our massages were quite pushy and rude. My masseuse for some reason felt the need to, in the middle of my massage, point out the break out on my back (gee thanks??). After the massage.. they came in with a bunch of the resorts beauty products, said to my husband “so how much will you be spending on the lady today” & acted disgusted when we said we weren’t interested. The Service This was probably the biggest pain point for me. If it had just been the food, drinks, resorts upkeep, etc.. I wouldn’t have said anything & honestly would’ve probably had a great time anyway lol. But the service here really pushed me over the edge.. there is no other way to put it, it is ATROCIOUS. Aside from our lovely Butlers & the amazing girl running activities at the pool, every single employee we came across here was either extremely cold, couldn’t be bothered, or just downright rude. I’m not sure if it’s because you aren’t allowed to tip at this resort or what but it was really uncomfortable and off putting to be treated like an inconvenience anytime we ordered a drink or sat down at a restaurant. Someone’s name I’ve seen mentioned quite a few times and, unfortunately, have to reiterate is the server at Soy, Jammie. I guarantee if you go to this restaurant, you will know exactly who im talking about. We had appetizers at Soy almost every night and every night, without fail, Jammie seemed so beyond irritated to be taking our order. She doesn’t even look you in the eyes or acknowledge your presence, doesn’t respond if you ask her how she is or if you say thank you, and if you don’t already know your order the second you sit down.. good luck! The Drinks I’ll keep this one short.. the drinks here are horrendous! I always read reviews that say this & I always think they’re being dramatic.. but the alcohol here is without a doubtttt watered down. We did not feel anything a single day that we were here.. and we can drink lol. Not only were they watered down, but they were all really gross. Even ordering something simple like a margarita was a letdown. I also did not appreciate that the bottles of alcohol in our room were already opened & 1/2-3/4 full when we got there. This has never been the case at any other resort we’ve stayed at, likely for both sanitary and safety reasons. The Beach I can’t really speak to the beach itself since we were never able to step foot on it, because of the beach vendors. They are quite aggressive and pushy.. trying to get you to book tours and buy things from them. On our first day, we were sitting at the main pool and a beach vendor came up to my husband and handed him a bag of weed saying “you can just bring me $40 later”. Uhh no thanks. I watched countless people trying to relax on the beach being relentlessly bothered by the beach vendors. Security even came up to us and said to be careful because sometimes they will try to bribe you to give them food and drinks. So.. be wary of that. The Resort The resort itself and the rooms were quite outdated, even staying in a sunset bluff butler elite room. The view from our room (896) was lovely though so if you are considering a trip here, I would definitely recommend it! This was our first Sandals experience and I can confidently stay we will NEVER be back to La Toc, and quite honestly will never give the Sandals brand another chance. There are much better chains out there, with employees who actually want to be there & want to make sure their guests are happy.

Sandals should rebrand as Shambles

melissabN2671LO on Dec 05, 2025

Let me start by saying, we’re not big moaners; we usually look for the positives and go with it, but even we had a sense of humour failure at Sandals. And we were not alone – there were a lot of very frustrated and disappointed guests there. Four of us spent the first week of our holiday B&B in Grenada, which was amazing, and our second week was meant to be one of luxury and relaxation at Sandals. The resort was packed. I think everyone who can no longer be accommodated in Jamaica has been redirected there. As a result, everything was overcapacity. It was more like an 18-30 holiday, packed in like sardines. Also, building work was going on the whole time whilst they reroofed the Pavilion, so had to listen to constant drilling and banging of hammers. Reading the reviews, I think there are definitely two levels of service. If you have a butler, then all is good, as they will make sure you don’t experience any of the below. If you haven't booked a butler service and can get your money back, I’d consider it, as you’ll def be staying ‘second class’. Sandals isn’t cheap, but I have had better service in a Travelodge. Interestingly, whilst you can access every other website on their Wi-Fi, TripAdvisor is blocked at Sandals La Toc. I guess they hope you won’t be bothered to give a bad review by the time you get home… What was wrong (the list is long – these are just a few examples). Sunbeds –. Now this wasn't typical sunbed wars with people putting out their towels because they wanted the ‘best seats’. If you wanted ANY sunbed, you had to get up early and claim it. To get 4 together, we had to get up at 5am, by 7am there were no beds to be had, and guests were saying they were having to put out towels on the beach. They actually dug up a flower bed by the pool (including uprooting palm trees) and covered it with stones to try and make more space for beds. One day, we went for lunch and were gone for less than an hour to find a couple on our friend's beds on our return. The couple (who we believed as they looked mortified) said they couldn’t find any beds, so the staff had removed our towels and had put our friend's book out on the floor, so it got ruined by the rain. Our room - Emerald Honeymoon Hideaway Grande Luxe, sounds nice, huh? In reality, it was by the compost heap (proudly signposted) and the car park where they dump stuff in. Used to come back to our hotel to the strong smell of cannabis, as I think that’s where all the gardeners used to hang out after shifts. There was nothing Grand or Luxe about it, and Hideaway just means far away from everything. Snorkelling – twice we booked in for the 7.30am snorkelling tour (meaning we had to get up at 6am to be ready and have breakfast before), for them to cancel once we turned up. First time, they told us it was a miscommunication/ computer glitch/ bad visibility, depending on who you spoke to. The second time it was because they had overbooked and gave priority to the divers. There were 9 of us there for snorkelling, and they even made us wait around for 30 minutes and only told us it was cancelled when we went to board the bus! They should have put a slip under our door the night before so we could have had a lie-in and have a leisurely breakfast, like you want to do on holiday. Check out – as we’d had a few issues, we had been offered free late check out (4pm). When we got to our room the night before there was a note saying we had to be out of our room at 11am, and we would be charged after that time. So we didn’t know what we were doing. Next morning, reception confirmed we did have a late check out, and ‘that letter was just standard’. So at 3 pm we walked up to our room (as the shuttle still hadn’t turned by after 10 min wait) to find our key card didn’t work. Had to walk back to reception who said we had to reactivate our keys. Why hadn't they told u this earlier? As a result, by the time we got back to our room we only had 30 mins to get showered and be out of there. Restaurants – Went to La Toc where the gents had to wear trousers. They showed us to a table where none of the air conditioning was working in that section, and the boys were getting really warm. They made a big deal of us asking to move to a part to the restaurant where the aircon was working, even though there were plenty of empty tables. Armandos – went there three times for breakfast. Each time we were first in line when they opened but once we were seated, they just seemed to ignore us and serve everyone else. People were finishing their breakfast before they even took an order for ours, so was over 45 mins before we ate. Pitons – so dark we had to use the lights on our phones to read the menu. Grumpiest waitress on the planet. What was good Share – she served drinks by the pool and was a ray of sunshine, even bringing over a bucket of beers for us when she discovered it was my other half’s birthday. Neptunes – again lovely staff in both the restaurant and the bar opposite. Was probably our favourite restaurant, mainly because of the setting by the beach Kimono & Buccan – both entertaining and interesting meals. The beach and sea – The water hammocks were a nice touch. Sea can get quite rough, but fun for wave jumping. There’s a great local guy on the beach who makes his living diving for sunglasses, as so many guests lose them in the waves (so don’t panic, he will find them!). The sunbeds, if you can get one, were also really comfy.
