We stayed two weeks at Riviera Maya privileged, nice average room, house nr 7, second floor, facing the garden (pool side). This location was good, in the middle of everything but no hullabaloo. Everything and everywhere was very clean and well kept, staff was friendly and humorous and if you asked or wanted something, it was immediately taken care of. 24 h room service worked great and was good to have. Several pools and beaches were clean and you could always find a chair. Also the location of the resort is nice, it takes about 20 min by local bus to Playa del Carmen, or 15 min with taxi. So you can enjoy the tranqility of the resort but very easily reach the city life bossibilities. We recommend Catalonia Yucatan and Riviera Maya and would go there again. Taru and Matti from Finland

Beautiful resort directly on the beach. Food was very good at the restaurants, the japanese in particular, great show. The privilege was worth it for us as the Bloved restaurant is a great change for breakfast and lunch. The buffet was pretty good and had a lot of variety but didn't change that much. Friendly staff and good entertainment every day/evening. Multiple pools and bars. Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful stay here. Great drinks, wonderful staff and lots of food. A cute little resort that is not as Americanized as others- which is great. Hot dog, milkshake and crepe bar were extra special. Cool kids activities as well. We will be back.

Pros: Family friendly, not over crowded, pleasant staff when we got home to Chicago we realized how miserable people are in USA immediately, room and resort were very clean, privileged dining at the Beloved Restaurant, privileged pool, bar and beach section, a tip of 5 dollars or more goes a long way with the wait staff and bartenders, meeting new people, our cleaning lady was very honest we left our safe open and she didn't touch our room left us a letter explaining why, Japanese and steak restaurant were the best dinners at the resort. I ordered shrimp and my husband ordered steak and shrimp at Japanese, at steak house I ordered mahi mahi and husband got the filet mignon we also ordered an entire lobster for an additional 30.00 USD which was huge and well worth the money. Not a ton of young wild partying teenagers or 20 something people there. Massage with privileged room was wonderful. Cons: Booking dinners was a nightmare if you like to eat early and by early I mean 6 pm, if you're located near abuelo bar after 9 pm is noisy with live music, no real top shelf liquor for anyone, most drinks are made with rail unless specified and the ones that are specified to be made with Bacardi, casadores, or stoli do not taste like the genuine alcohol labeled on the bottles. Buffet food is bland for the most part, if you're a little into cooking you can dress up some of the things offered . For instance they have chilaquiles both red and green sauce I would order two eggs over medium to place on top of them. You can also put some salsa on top of it. Venture over to the marina for happy hour you won't be disappointed. Book a few excursions through the people at hotel, Mayan ruins are amazing. Make sure you have confirmation emails and phone numbers for everything booked including rides to and from airport. Bring lots of 1's and 5's for tipping.

    Great family vacation

Just got back from the Catalonia Riviera Maya stayed Jan. 8-15. Loved it! We spent a week with Children and Grandkids age 2 & 4, they had a ball. This resort is clean. Food is great! Entertainment was good, as well as the entertainment staff. Loved that you could walk not even 5 minutes down the road to a beautiful Marina, and Dolphin Cove, with cute little restaurants, and shops, never bothered to go into Playa de Carmen, that was enough and alot less aggressive vendors...We would definatley go back again. Our room was on the 4th floor 4133-4134 perfect view of the pools and ocean...Only thing I would say need improvement would be the fiendliness of the (bartending & serviers) staff they did their job but never put any personallity into their service. We did 4 al-a-carts all were great especially liked the Tappas Restaurant, and Italian. The ocean/beach was small one side was rocky and the other side had a beautiful sandy beach with plenty of fish to go snorkeling and see! Be careful though on the inlet side of the beach my granddaughter got stung by a little jellyfish ( they look like a plant but they aren't) white viniger is what they told us to put on it! (took the sting out) she was fine...Go enjoy your stay it was lovely!
