We went with a group of four in mid February 2021. The resort was kept up nicely, with all safety precautions being taken while still allowing for having a good time. Restaurants had great cleaning procedures and sanitizing precautions. The staff was great. Darwin from the entertainment team was a great person to get to know and helped our group have a great stay!

We had an anniversary trip to Cozumel for the first time. We were very happy with the kindness of the front desk people, especially Claudia took such good care of us! The spa was great and received the best massage EVER from Joy! The food portions and the in-room menu was a little limited and portions very small but all the food was very tasty and prepared with care and cleanliness. The room was so clean and comfortable and service was fantastic! We had a small maintenance issue and Adam fixed us up in less than 30 minutes! Also the event coordinators, especially Jianini was so lovely and entertaining. She had us hooked up with activities every day! We had the best time. And lastly, the people take so much pride in the work they do and the service they provide. It was a delight to see.

This was our 8th visit to the resort. We were not quite sure what to expect regarding the COVID protocols but were extremely impressed with the measures taken to keep everyone and everything safe and clean. The location of this resort is south of downtown in a pretty secluded larger beach area. Plenty of beach space, chairs/umbrellas and towels for all. There are four pools which each have their own "vibe". Check in/out was a breeze and were given a 4th floor ocean view room. It was very quiet to sit later in the evening and just relax. There are several activities going on throughout the day and into the evening. There were several live bands different nights and they were all very good. There was a fire show, a mexican dance show, a prehistoric spanish show and our favorite was the aqua show (it was seriously amazing)! The food this visit was the best food they have had in about 3-4 years. The service in a few of them could have been faster but overall, the food was flavorful, served hot and presented nicely. Bourdeaux is the nicest restaurant with excellent food and service. Any type of drink was delivered quickly and with a smile. Most of the beach servers and bartenders remember your name and favorite drink. There were several staff members that made our trip so special and fun! We will try to name all of them for special recognition: Concierge: Francisco and Yusell are constantly greeting with a smile and will accommodate any need or question you have. They work very hard! Front Desk: Cynthia is a very excellent resource for the resort. She works tirelessly with a smile on her face and is always ready to help with anything! Beach Servers: Adela has to be the most valuable team member of the resort who is constantly bringing whatever drinks and snacks that you ask for. She truly gets to know the guests and is so friendly and kind. Miguel is also an asset with his witty charm and sense of humor. Except, I am still waiting for my pizza!!! Bartenders: Luis is the rock star of the resort! When he asks what he can get you and the answer from us is "surprise us" he certainly delivers! He is so funny and cheerful whenever you see him. Miguel is another bartender who truly knows what he is doing. Thanks for all of the "shakey shakies"! Restaurants: We can not say enough wonderful words about Joseph at Bourdeaux and his entire team! We are in awe at the level of service and quality of food that is provided - even for special events!! Management: Javier Samper truly made our vacation so special for us. As always, this man works almost around the clock to keep things running. We can not thank him enough for everything he did for us! We did have a few hiccups along the way of our 14 day stay but nothing that was serious enough to "complain" about. We just mentioned the issue to the proper person and it was taken care of. Same thing if you needed or wanted something. Just ask for it and usually they can accommodate. We met several interesting and fun people while at the resort which was probably the funnest part of all! We will definitely be back to visit again! Thank you again to all Kevin & Kris

    Adults only and great snorkeling

We stayed here because of the adults only option. But the place was great for other reasons too. They has some small water slides at one of the pools which was very fun without kids in the way. But they also had 3 other pools. 2 of the 4 pools had swim up bars. They only offered a few restaurants, but the restaurants that they have were very good. The seafood and Mexican restaurants are by far the best. Just eat at these for every meal if you are a foodie. But, if you want safe "at home" food, they do have a boring restaurant and outdoor grill with burgers too. The hotel is located on the "good" side of the island. It's generally less windy and the water is calmer. It is also located on one of Cozumel's main reefs right off of the hotel's beach and snorkel equipment is included in your all-inclusive. We were able to see tons of fish just feet from the beach. But if you are looking for swimming, it is a little rocky. The hotel staff is great. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Some of our favorites were a waitress that we regularly encountered (Edith) who let me practice my Spanish on her without being annoyed. And, our room attendant (Guadalupe), who we advised one day that we would like extra water in our room and she stocked us up with 10 bottles! The entertainment leads (Juanini, Darwin, and Leo) were always out and up to something and looking for people to join them in their fun. They did a great job with games, dancing, etc, but it would have been nice to have a slightly more robust entertainment option, such as maybe a show. However, there were singers, movies on the beach, and other good entertainment. So, no major complaints. The Amstar staff onsite was not too pushy and were able to set us up with a very reasonably priced tour that we were interested in. The tour went very smoothly and we really enjoyed it. Definitely got good value for our buck. The only downside was the team trying to sell you extra services and time share stuff when you check in and just want to get to your room and change. And also when you inquire on anything at the front desk. But I think that has become common at most places. So unfortunately, not sure how you can avoid it.

I hate to write negative reviews about a place of business because it affects the livlihoods of everyone who works there, especially when jobs are scarce and tourism has taken a hit. With that in mind I’m just going to share a few factual observations: . Resort grounds. Great location right on the beach. The layout of the grounds is a bit confusing and maze-like but it’s pretty and lush. . Beach. Parts of the beach are rocky and parts soft sand. One just needs to find the right spot. Plenty of chairs probably because the resort was only at 60% capacity. When things are back to normal I assume it’ll be a fight for chairs like in pre-pandemic times. . Staff. Staff were overall friendly but they seemed tired and worn down. At times I felt bad for them. The activities team did a really great job of livening up the mood. I suspect the resort might of been understaffed for the busy Holy Week rush. I can’t say it’s the same level of enthusiasm as other locations. . Room. Had a standard room that was a little bit of a walk but not too bad. The room itself was really bad to say the least and in dire need of renovations. I read other reviews of the rooms and they are pretty spot on. I didn’t want to believe it but they were pretty true. I can’t say for sure how the preferred and swim up rooms are but could be potentially better I assume. I just would not suggest staying in a standard room. The bed was comfortable however missed a top sheet layer under the duvet which was kind of disconcerting. . Food. Food was good. Not necessarily amazing but not terrible either. You can tell some thought went into the menus. Overall I did enjoy the food and drink. . Pools. There are four pool areas. All pretty nice. Could use more umbrellas though. . Fitness center. Pretty spacious and well equipped. Some items are a bit rusty and worn but that’s pretty par for the course in most gyms. Downside is that the fitness center next door at Sunscape, the sister property of Secrets, so a bit of a hike. Overall it was ok. I wouldn’t say it’s the on the same level as the other Secrets (certainly not Secrets Maroma) and feels more like an old Dreams or Now. It’s certainly not up to par for the Secrets brand. I wouldn’t stay there again. I hope the company gets the message and invests money into the place. If they did the resort could be truly amazing.
