Awesome resort hotel, amenities are great. Was actually here for a work trip with a pharma company, but it never felt like work. The facilities were so nice and I even had a casita all to myself. The pool is amazing.. The service was great, especially our transport around the resort. Vincent was always my driver for the little golf carts that take you around and he was so nice and accommodating. Will definitely try to come back again!!

First rate property- very friendly and helpful employees. You can tell they are proud to serve you and the property alone is worth the visit with landscaping, trees, and artwork. You won’t be disappointed with the spa and Camelback golf courses. As a cool bonus- they have trained male and female hawks with a handler on site.

    Business Trip turns Relaxing

This was a business trip that turned into a very relaxing trip. I arrived too early to check in to my room, but the conference fee came with a spa pass, so I did not mind waiting for my room. The staff was very welcoming and my “casita” was very roomy, well-laid out and decorated. Since I was there for a conference, I spent most of my time in the conference rooms. The wifi was acceptable in speed but unavailable in the outside seating area making it frustrating to not be able to check my e-mails while relaxing in the sun shine. I thoroughly enjoyed the spa with the eucalyptus scented steam bath and the quiet room with patio. What I appreciated was the availability and diversity of their reading material, the days news journals were available along with the usual magazines.

Great potential, but not a luxury experience

Let me start with the positives - and there are many. The grounds are spectacular. If possible, it’s better than the pictures. The service and the food at the restaurants are good. If you eat at Rita’s, ask for Rita (that’s really her name!). She is absolutely fantastic!!! I had a spa treatment - believe it was called the Restorative massage. It was excellent, as was Kelly, my masseuse. Getting a spa treatment allows you access to the only adult-only pool on the property. Strangely, it’s set up as a lap pool. The food at Sprouts, which is the restaurant at the Spa, is not cheap, but it’s good. Pool service is good - very relaxed, but the staff is there if/when you want service. And if you want to use the adult-only pool without a spa treatment, you have to pay an additional $35 fee - above the daily “resort fee.” I still can’t figure out what that fee provides. They ought to just up the room fee and include that. Paying for WiFi is ridiculous in this day and age. Unfortunately the luxury experience ends there. The rooms are ok, but nowhere near worth the cost. I reserved a mountain view sundeck room and was upgraded to a loft room. The pictures look beautiful, but when you enter the room, it just feels tired. Having a sundeck overlooking the mountains was my requirement - and it met that - but I didn’t feel like I was staying at a luxury resort. Then in the evening, they had a movie playing outside for the kids, but I could hear it in my room. It was terribly loud, but I was looking for peace and tranquility. I did not get it here. I was told that Marriott is redoing the rooms this summer, which is long overdue. Unfortunately I’ve also learned that the decor will be modern, rather than a tribute to the southwest, which is how they are currently decorated. I think that is a huge mistake. The charm of this resort is it’s setting and grounds, all of which are southwestern. The really big miss here is the lack of a luxury experience for adults only. I’m all for family resorts, and if that’s what you’re looking for, this one fits the bill. But if its a luxury adult experience you want, I’d recommend going somewhere else. I was also told a new GM starts in the next few weeks. I hope she can transform this property into the luxury experience that guests expect. My experience was ok, but when I return, I will stay somewhere that is more luxurious. Adding an adult-only pool would certainly help that. The only pool that you don’t have to pay to access is full of little kids and families. It’s great for them, just wasn’t what I was looking for. I’m disappointed because the location and the grounds are stunning.

    Perfection.

I can’t believe this hotel has a single negative review. Every other hotel should come here to see how things should be done. The hotel is beautiful, clean and well maintained. The pool had one of the best views of Camelback and Mummy Mountains. We were going to visit a nearby botanical garden and decided against it. This place is a botanical garden. They must have an entire squad of landscapers on staff. The grounds are immaculate and beautiful. We loved that the cacti were in bloom. We were in room 343 and we got to know our housekeeper a bit. It’s been a few weeks but I believe her name was Maria. She did an excellent job and was very friendly. She also dressed up my daughters doll every day with washcloths. One day the doll had a hat and the next day a dress. My daughter loved it. All in all we had a perfect stay. Wish I could come back every year!
