All the times before colvid the place and food were amazing. Now the service and place are still amazing but the food was so bad. Would go back and try again because I had such a great experience before. Hopefully it was just because of covid making business difficult.

Lush grounds, large pool; watch for a couple of issues

The grounds are lush with gardens, ponds and winding paths for walking. The pool is lovely with plenty of small alcoves to call your own. There are many seating options at the pool and beach (palapas, chairs, cabanas) with plenty of shady spots. The beach is nice. The drinks, although not strong, are tasty. The food is fine, with an occasional excellence at dinner, especially at Quimera. It is worth it to buy ‘The Level’ to get the additional restaurant option, the nicer seating options at the beach and the free room service. Having the personal ‘valet’ is an oddity, but you cannot make your own spa reservations, tee times nor even dinner reservations in this country, so you must rely on your valet. Because of the intermediary, you will not know your plans until the day before at best, or the day of. The biggest problems: the money given in ‘credits’ was a complete bait and switch. Online it says that you receive a large value of ‘credits’ to be used at the spa, for golf and upgrades. Don’t assume you can actually use those credits at all. It is not money to be used towards those items--it is really ‘coupons’ to give you money off with purchase! E.g., you get $20 off a spa treatment (only if it is over 50 minutes, which costs over $145) or $15 off a golf cart rental (only before 1pm) or $10 off a bottle of wine over $50. And hundreds of dollars of these ‘credits’ were not even available during COVID. They were very pushy on attending a time-share ‘vacation club’ presentation. Our personal valet mentioned the ‘vacation club’ (which he claimed was ‘not’ a timeshare…) and ‘suggested’ we go to the presentation at a nearby resort called The Circle, also owned by Melia. By the 3rd day of the trip, the ‘suggestion’ was replaced by a plea that he would not get a good performance review if we didn’t go. We explained we were already members at a different US vacation club and we would not be buying. No problem, we just had to attend for 45 minutes and he would come to get us. Well! It was not as easy to end that presentation as was described. We ended up being there over 90 minutes, and had to refuse multiple times and get up to walk out. It was very unpleasant. Other issues: The 'free' massage was only 30 minutes. 'Free' golf required a $75 cart (but was a nice course). Overall, I would go back to The Melia. I would definitely pay for ‘The Level’. But I would refuse to attend the timeshare presentation, and I would calculate the value without the 'credit'

I traveled to Punta Cana Melia Beach - Adults only for a relaxing two weeks beach vacation. The resort just reopened recently. Everything was neat and clean. The room was spacious as expected. Although not all the restaurants are open during the week, I enjoyed lunch and dinner at the Quimera restaurant (I recommend the scallops). The staff is excellent, very friendly and featured always good service. But I want to give special credit and many thanks to Moisés Medina for making this trip perfect. Moisés was always available whenever I had a question, request, or a dinner reservation to make. At any given time. Moisés, muchas gracias. If I am to return one day, I will nobody but Moisés to take care of me.

Beautiful Resort - but Worst DR Experience

The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. The staff was super friendly from the second we got there. There was a private check in process which was nice, as well as a host who was in contact with you via WhatsApp 24/7. When we first got to our room, and opened the door, there was a huge cockroach laying there. Off too a rough start, but we were excited to be on vacation nonetheless, so we looked past it. The host messaged us each day to make dinner reservations. However due to lack of visitors (I assume) only 2 of the 8(?) restaurants were open. We were also willing to look past that, as it was completely understandable. What was NOT understandable was the quality of the food. The first night we must have eaten something that was stale or no longer good (possibly the tuna or salmon, because both my wife and I got so terribly sick with food poisoning that we didn’t leave the room for the next 48 hours straight. Thank god for the host (Moises) who checked up on us and kindly picked us up Gatorade from the employee lounge (no store on resort). This was supposed to be our romantic getaway for our “mini-moon” - however it quickly became an extremely unpleasant experience. We were in so much pain, we almost called our airline to try and arrange an earlier flight back home. For the remaining day and a half we ate stale overcooked rice and day old dinner rolls (that were probably leftover from the prior days breakfast). Don’t believe the good reviews.
