Cuba Vacay ????????

Stayed in the Royal section which provides you with a butler service which is excellent to have as they take care of all your A’La Carte reservations & when your a Royal guest you have unlimited reservations. The Sakura Japanese was our favorite, great food, very entertaining chef (Ruloph); Firenze Italian was good and so was the Marseille French. The Hilltop & Miramar were O.K and they are both located in the Royal Section, we found that the Gran Terraza Buffet was just as good. Cuba is going through a shortage of food & the citizens are rationed on the supplies for themselves for living, so please don’t complain about the food, if you want good food at a resort then Cuba is not the place to go. There was salt, pepper, ketchup, toilet paper, never a shortage of alcohol at this resort. Our fridge in room was stocked daily with 2 pop; 2 beer & water and when your a Royal guest they will bring you a bottle of rum or wine for the room. The staff work very hard & long hours with usually only 1 day off a week, bring gifts for them, tips in USD or CAD. Would like to give a special thanks to our butlers Randy & Yas for getting everything we needed in our rooms, making reservations & thanks Randy for setting us up with an awesome tour guide (English speaking) for our private tour to Havana in a vintage car (highly recommend this tour) left at 8 am - 6:30 pm. Marialysa & Jesus you are great entertainers and very friendly with the guests; Annarays made her rounds at the Royal pool to make sure everyone had a drink in hand. The Piano Bar is by far the best place to hang out with excellent drinks made by Yusmila and her warm smile is so welcoming and the entertainment in there is very good. The beach was absolutely gorgeous, this is the main reason you go to Cuba for the calm ocean, great beaches & the safe country. Never had to fight for a lounge chair at either the beach or pool in Royal Section. There are a few resort dogs and a cat around, so if you’re an animal lover then bring them treats too. When we booked in our friends had gotten an upgrade to section #12 Suite Royal Service very nice 1 bedroom room compared to the other group members’ rooms in section 8 & 9 Junior Suite Royal Service. This is where the not so good review comes in; no screen door or else lots of holes in it and the patio doors barely locked and we were all on ground level. Have coffee maker in room but they do not supply any coffee, request a electric kettle and bring instant coffee to make; room was very musky and last day sewer smell coming up through shower drain; no hand towels ever and no face cloths when we checked in but when we requested them they brought face cloths; bring power converters; Wifi is spotty and at one point had to go get passwords etc reset; only 1 lounger on deck pad had to request another which came three days after check-in; The rooms are very worn and by no means are they a 5* as stated, which isn’t a problem but Paradisus Del Mar is misleading visitors, they should be adjusting their star * level to the actuality of the conditions of the rooms & resort & not use the excuse it is Cuba as I am sure their resorts in Mexico, etc are a 5* level and this resort isn’t close to that level of rating. The grounds were well maintained and they are painting and upgrading things so in a few years it possibly will be a 4+ resort but at the moment it needs lots of repairs to bali beds, buildings, furnishings, curtains, etc. No need to convert your cash to Cuban Pesos as they would rather the USD or CAD currency and even in Havana & airport everything is priced in USD. Bring pool floaties for the pools. Also a must bring is mosquito repellent as they are nasty at night, three people in our group had a terrible reaction to them from swelling to large, large red bites all over their legs. No coke pop at all on resort. They had entertainment every night, would be nice if they had it posted around the resort of what show etc was on. Also bring a copy of the resort map as they do not have any available and it can be overwhelming for the first few days - it is a well laid out resort.
Great stay

Amazing stay at the hotel, the staff and entertainers helped make the trip more enjoyable, shoutouts to Carlos, Rico, and Jesus. The hotel itself is very well laid out and accessible. The pool was beautiful and had all the entertainment and drinks you would need. They did run out of some supplies through the trip but that was to be expected. Came here for a girls bachelorette trip and we all had a blast
