Lovely beaches and staff, horrible food and wifi

This was a good value holiday if not for the terrible food. We loved the beaches and the people we met but really found the food truly awful. No fresh fruit, often cold or undercooked. We ended up eating most our meals out which was fun but added a lot of cost to the holiday.
Amazing Family Vacation!

Hi everyone, I went to Sol Palmeras during the March break with my family. The lobby is absolutely stunning. When you first walk in it seems small until you walk in further and WOW gorgeous. Lots of seating for large groups and well as couples/ They have a serve yourself coffee machine and the cappuccino’s were tasty. I brought small gifts, chocolate, chips and USD and CND dollars for tips. Our rooms were in the older section but I honestly thought they were new. The bedding was clean, the water was warm for our showers and our fridge was stocked with bottled water daily as well as fresh towels. If you do want the newer section, I believe I heard it’s an extra $10/per day per person. I would say we misplaced our room card about 5 times including leaving it in the room, dropping it in the pool etc. there were no issues replacing them. There was an issue with the sliding door not locking and that was fixed right away. We did not spend much time at the pool other then to watch the shows in the evening which started at 9:30. We spent most of our time at the beach, we did wake up early to reserve some chairs in the shade as my elderly mom (80 yrs) couldn’t be in the sun too much. The water was spectacular and refreshing. We had fun on the peddle boats and the catamaran. There was one day where we weren’t allowed in the water and the lifeguards made sure of it. It was windy and the ocean was rough, it was great to see the safety precautions put into place. I should also mention I did see lots of ramps at the resort which was great for accessibility. The Food…it was great. We went to the Latin restaurant and ordered the rice and beef dish and it was delicious. There is the beach bbq area where we ate ribs, burgers and sausages. We found the hidden snack bar near the bungalows and ate fresh burgers and fries with an ice cold beer. The Oshin restaurant was great too. We ordered spring rolls, rice with mixed vegetables and general tzo chicken. We also went to the Italian restaurant and we didn’t enjoy it. The buffet had everything including eggs. There were no shortages of anything. If you do go to the buffet look for a sweet older lady named Olga with glasses. Bring her some Nutella and small treats, you will fall in love with her. I certainly did. ??Sandra was also a sweetie who would help translate for Olga, don’t forget her either. Cuba is a beautiful place that feels like home and the staff are genuinely sweet, kind as well as professional. I definitely will be going back for another visit.
